  1. I treat it the same as a 231. Find a different one. I have seen many XJs with 242s in them from that era. Shouldnt be too hard to find.
  2. You will be fine using a 235/75/15 on a 7 or a 8 inch wheel. I have run them on mulitple stock xjs and MJs! Why did you get 2 different tread for tires? Why didnt run the authoritys all around? Even tho you are 2wd, the front tires also grib the road and also help out in off camber situations!?

    Plow MJ

Now that my whole yard stinks like gas from the tank leaking on this thing, tomorrow I'm stealing the tank from the 89 and putting it in. Fixed a spring on the plow so it doesnt keep pushing down and snapping back today. Now if we would just get some more snow!
  4. Looks good man. Where are you from?

    Duluth MN

O the kind words  :rotf: Anyway, yeah, I'm about 70 miles north of Duluth, but I travel that way quite frequently. I grew up about 20 min north of Duluth, so I have lots of friends that direction. We should have a Comanche Club GTG up on the Iron Range (60 miles north of Duluth) this summer! Do some wheeling and BBQing or something!
  6. Yer never gonna pass a gas station with that 351. Look for truck with a 300-6. I got high teens for mileage with my 95 F-150 4x4 shorty with a 300-6 and a 5-speed. Believe it or not, that 300-6 was not that bad of a engine for pulling. I used to haul Jeeps around all the time with it.
  7. I have the double sheer track bar setup and the complete IRO steering setup. Works great and takes a serious pounding on my XJ.
  8. I made one out of brake line. Took a 3 foot chunk of the corrected size line, 1/4" IIRC, and ran it down to the slave from the master. I put a few curly Qs in it. works mint. About 7 bucks invested.
  9. Yep, press fit from the factory. Little heat and a hammer should do the trick.
  10. I had to have someone pump it up and I bled it off, added fluid at the same time. About 10 times. Mine was all brand new parts save for the master. New clutch line and slave.

    Plow MJ

Finally out of the garage. Drove it out! Replaced: Clutch/slave Clutch line from master cylinder to slave (home brew) starter ignition switch leaf spring (thanks sinkrun!!) one new tire (yes brand new!!) A bunch of little things. Hit alot of brick walls on this project due to rust issues, broken bolts, time. Plans yet: New fuel tank (leaks) better wiring for plow replace some busted emission hoses fluid change exhaust (straight pipe to the x-member right now) permanently fix the CAD system (works currently amazingly!) Some more pics: New (used) leaf spring from Sinkrun My sweet 'T' handle shift knob made outa some SK sockets that my late grandfather had welded (brazed actually) together and I have never used them as a tool. 'T' shifters rule!
  12. I drove this outa the garage tonight FINALLY. Had to make a line from the clutch master to the slave cylinder. Had the girlfriend help me bleed the clutch. Got a few little things to do; fluid service, wiring for the plow, cutting edge on the plow, some emmision hoses need help, and a gas tank will be the last thing if the thing plows good and deams itself worthy of a shiny new tank. Thanks for the help guys. Clutch job was the first for me.
  13. Total guess, but I would say its at least a 8-10 hour job on the books.
  14. My thoughts exactly. I did a huge driveway a couple years ago with pavers for a rich dude on a lake up near my house. Think it was 18 pallets of pavers, 3 different flavors. The setup was more of a pain then the actual setting.
  15. Thinking that those where a 84-86 option. I have seen 2 in my life. One was on a 86, one was on a 85. Both V6 XJs.
  16. That'll happen
  17. IMHO, It all depends what kind of wheeling you do, or whether you are going to run a locker or not. In my expirence a Dana 30 is fine on 35s open as long as there is stock gearing in the t-case. If you are romping threw the mud, with a open 30, you will most likely be fine. Just keep a eye on your u-joints after every and it might not hurt to carry a spare shaft or two. EZ to change. Now if you plan to rock crawl and USE that 300 hp, yes Dana 44 minimum. What are your plans for the truck?
  18. To me, 10 mpg sounds about right for strictly city driving. At least thats my expirence with a AW4 L6 XJ. I get right around 20mpg hwy with my 88 4.0/Pukey
  19. 10w30 synthetic was recommended for use in my reman np231 by the seller. Seems 10w30 Syn is the new oil for everything!
  20. I've read that thread at least 3 times!
  21. HP axles are a smigin stronger then the LP30s. But every TJ that rolled off the line had a LP30. Personally, if I could keep the HP I would, but to get the truck on the road, and possibly help out a buddy off load his axle, I would run it.
  22. Huh. Funny thread, but makes you think a bit. I remember my folks having one, 10 plus years ago. I know at their MN house they still have the waterbed structure, but with a real mattress. My guess is the leaking problems with them is why they kinda went by the wayside.
  23. Boy I spent about 4-5 hours last night rereading the Charlie Wenzel story and the story on JP forum. You don't want to mess with folks on the internet!
  24. Theres torque values? How bout just tight?
  25. the other day, i spotted a red comanche with a small lift delivering pizzas!
