Water/gasoline fuel filter-separator
xjrev10 replied to 2360's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Has anyone ever used a marine type fuel/water separater? -
anybody not use the x member drop?
xjrev10 replied to MancheKid86's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Agreed. My XJ with a 4.5 shortarm, does not have a sye or a t-case drop. I have no issues with it. But it never comes outa 4lo either. -
How about a TJ 6-speed and 4.0 in a MJ?
xjrev10 replied to fcjunkie's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
This is more popular on the internet then in the rear world IMHO. Ive had 3 '00 engines, no problems. All had over 140k. One acquaintance of mine is currently in the middle of a head swap, another just did one last year. Both 2000 models, both due to a cracked head. A third one with a 2000 had a piston come apart, he ended up building a 4.6 stroker to replace the old engine. I have a coworker with a 01 WJ that is going through coolant at a pretty good rate. I'm thinking this may be the first problem one I have seen. I wouldnt be scared of a 2000-01 with over 100k. What my point is that alot of folks think EVERY 00-01 head is going to crack cuz they "read it online." -

Speedo cable goes to the transfer case, not the trans. see what i I last wrote. saying 'case' means transfer case in my vocab. -
best place to buy good u joints?
xjrev10 replied to Jeepyjeepy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I buy "Super Strength" house brand u-joints at my local auto parts store. They have been great! About 14 bucks! -

Junk yard. Search on here about them, they are mostly unavailable. Hornbrod gave me the name of a company one time out on the east coast that will fix em to brand new condition. don't remember what the company was tho!

2" lift coils/Metric Tonne leafs
xjrev10 replied to xjrev10's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
What I'm attempting to do is clear 245/75/16s with as little of a lift as possible on a 2wd. Hoping for 2 inches of lift and a level stance. Also I hope to be able to tow a nice size fishing boat, hence the metric ton springs. I fit these wheels/tires on a stock 4x XJ with no rubbing. Truck is getting a HP30 and a 8.25 with disc brakes; it will be staying 2wd till I figure out what the heck I want to do for a trans. Any body carry non adjustable control arms for 0-2 inches of lift, besides using stockers? I'm having trouble finding fixed length control arms for a rig with less then a 3" suspension. No, stockers are not a option! I emailed a few places about the control arms. Sounds like Rusty's are made to order. Guess Ill see what I can find. -

Anybody make them besides OME? Sorry dudes, I guess I have a problem with 'pucks!' I know this has been beat to death but do Metric Ton leafs give any sort of lift when installed in a standard MJ?

What if any kind of electric crap does the nsg370 got? What about the speedo cable?*** I'm thinking (doing research) on swapping a nsg370 behind my renix. ***Guess that might be a question for a different thread. Going from a 2wd pukey, to Nsg370 with a 231/242. Does the mechanical speedo from a older case swap into a new(er) case? -
You do have a good point on body flex; but from what I gather body flex is more so a twisting motion on the lines, rather than an actual bending which can occur from the twisting of a motor in the mounts. That's just an educated(retard) guess; but I 'have' seen them break several times when I used to work in a Jeep shop. It's a temporary fix in my eyes. I'd order one online, I'm just trying to save you the hassle of a bad occurance one day, ya know? Yes I do agree that its kind of a HACK fix. I will probably NOT do this to my DD MJ. I did this on my plow truck which never will leave the yard. But still, with good motor mounts I still cannot see how the engine/trans would flex more then a body. Horse a piece. When it fails I will find this thread and thank you for warning me!

If you don't mind, Whats SAR duty? I have always been interested in the Coast Guard, but never ended up going down that path  Search and Rescue. Encompasses anything from pulling drunken small boat skippers off sand bars and reefs to pulling folks out of the water after a storm to whatever else could happen answering a distress call. Interesting duty, you don't get bored. I did it for a few years in the Chesapeake Bay w. the CG between hitches in the USN. What I liked about it most was if you went down, you could most always wade ashore since it was a CG small boat. Only kidding - the USCG is a super group and vital to our security now more than ever before. Sounds like a very rewarding job!

Aluminum wheels? Look for cracks. I have seen a few chevy 3/4 and 1 tons with al wheels that have cracked.

Actually, I have a snowblower I stole (borrowed) from my folks. They are in Florida for the winter so they don't need it! I have actually HAD to snowblow 3 times this winter. Got plowed out by a neighbor once. I have plowed my driveway 3 times in the last couple days just cuz. 1" of snow doesnt really mean you have to plow, but its a excuse to drive a MJ in the middle of winter! Forgot to ad.. It takes 2.5 hours to snowblow my driveway/yard. Takes about 10-15min with the MJ. Also the whole goal for this little project was to keep the whole buy in price under the cost of a new snowblower. Right around 750 bucks invested, so I did good...I think.
-
Luk here also. I looked at the old clutch in my 90 MJ, and it was also a Luk. Only plowed a couple times with it, so I don't have no long term feedback. Paid around 180 bucks shipped for it.

Not that this is the greatest idea, but it does work. Mine has been this way for months. Yep, I don't see the problem. What the difference in your brake lines themselves? Look at a truck with a real frame. (nothing dirogitory (?) here obviously), they run brake lines off the master which is mounted to the body, to a prop valve mounted on the frame. Now go wheeling in that truck, specially if its a ford, watch how much the body moves around. I know the engine and trans move around quite a bit, but I cannot imagine enough to stress the line that much to see it fail. Guess Ill find out! My local auto parts store could not get a line, and usually if they cannot get it, it can't be got. But now I see, maybe I shoulda checked the computer. :fs1:

might wanna try making a new thread about this..
