It's an osiloscope (not spelt right) it's used in electronics to look at wave forms, frequency and such. This one is an older one so i picked it up cheap on the web.
i feel your pain, I needed to get new copies of my papers so my insurance company sent me some temp ones, I gave them to the cop he said they weren't proof enough and still got a ticket for no insurances :(
I don't know if its the same for you, but years ago my dad wanted a kick stand for his KDX 200 so he used steel bolts to hold the kick stand on to the aluminum frame of the bike and all the vides actually cause the steel bolts to damage the aluminum threads so it caused a situation like yours.
the're from a jeep, I have one waiting to go into mine, if I remember correctly just pull gently down on the black part and it should all come out as one. They are however a b*@$£ to put back in, that's what I remember the most.

got to love the engineering that went into those inline v6's.
It took me threeish years to fill my 2 500gb ones and that was with frequent cleaning of them so this 1tb should hopefully last 2 years with me just dumping things in it with little maintenance.
