  1. Regardless, a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, IMO, eliminate the C101. BTW its on my to do list for the 88, eliminate, not just clean.
  2. Like these? http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-Pc-Jeep-Elite-Mud-Guards-Universal-Fit-Splash-Guards-Mud-Flaps-Fast-Shipping-/251417544339?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3AComanche&hash=item3a89a74693&vxp=mtr These are not stock, if you find stock ones, they are usually a little spendy. If you find used ones, grab em, including the brackets, even if they aint in the best of shape, they are "one of those parts" that are MJ specific (rears).
  3. Nothing smells like a diesel, so how about stinky?
  4. I'm thinking of doing a convertible, actually just cut the top off of my S-10, 4" of drop, V8, cut down windshield...yeah Why? Because I'm a car guy and I can. nuffsaid
  5. if it has 3" of lift (decent quality), at least 31s, I'd say maybe, if the vehicle was loaded w options, tilt air cruise pw pl I'd pay more than that if it has all the above, but not much more, if the 4wd works. Tell him its gonna cost at least $500 to fix the front axle, offer him a thousand. XJs are a dime a dozen
  6. As time goes by and these things are becoming increasingly hard to find (especially HO ones) be aware that there is always the option of converting to a Dakota tank and sender. Search is your friend, pretty sure there is a write up here somewhere.
  7. Out of curiosity, whats he asking US$? Keep us posted if you do or don't buy it? If it was me...aint even a question if I would or could, it would already be on its way to my house. Besides the Thunderchief, I believe this is one of the rarest MJs out there. How about the interior? Creature comforts?
  8. Bought some Ujoints from O'reileys, parts guy said they were "as good as Spicer", didnt last past the first wheeling trip. FWIW, the failure came from the C clip popping out. I will never use C clips again. When I bought new Spicers I also bought new full circle clips for the caps. Took a little creative grinding on the stubs and shafts to get cleartance for the clips, never a problem since.
  9. Front turn signal sockets are notorious for going bad, I cut the sockets off of mine, took to parts store found replacements in the HELP section all my wiring problems dissapeared after that, everything works as it should now. FWIW, the old sockets looked fine, cleaning them would not/did not fix the problem, only total replacement of the plug and its pigtail did.
  10. Black box = auto alarm or remote start? Wiring doesn't look like it comes from a stock harness.
  11. Sometimes my doors won't unlock from the out or inside. The Inside lock lever feels like it is obstructed, when I use the key from the outside (If the linkage feels still attached) work the key to lock - unlock - lock - unlock, if I keep doing this I can "feel" the lock when it releases, usually happens when it's cold, seen a post about this in the past, general consensus was that the door latch mechanism was wore out, recommended replacement.
  12. Still kicking myself in the a** for throwing away those black bed rails I had...not that I'd ever put them on...just sayin. Don't know if they were aftermarket but I've seen em on a few MJs, Nostalgic MJ parts I shouldn't have trashed. :wall:
  13. Ewwww, A Dakota, the Comanche killer...
  14. Think it has 1 screw (maybe 2) coming in from the other side. (Engine compartment)
  15. Another rare option for MJ Exports to Egypt and Venezuela shown in the parts manual was a 24 VDC electrical system in the HO years. My question is, Why? :hmm: The only advantage I can see is that the wire size can be smaller because the load devices do not draw as much amperage at 24V. My guess would be that the 24V thing was to make them compatible with military radios and equipment maybe?
  16. Thats what I did, bought the correct input from a CC member, split the cases, replaced the gear. Honestly, not a hard job at all, just need duck bill snap ring pliers, Powerblock had an episode where they split a 231 case...
  17. I'm with the AA/AAA battery crowd, hate camera specific batteries, if you need the camera all day or on a trip, hike, camp, disposables are the way to go. Way less hassles.
  18. Street Comanche
  19. Rear flares...Comanche specific, someday will turn to gold, like tail lights
  20. I agree with all this but the OP doesn't tell us how much "cheap" means to him, real cheap like 5-6 hundred for a running driving vehicle is cheap (real cheap - 2 or 3 hundred) and $$ should be expected to be spent on it. For a stock 90 XJ say, $1500, I wouldnt expect to put much money in it all...Real cheap Jeeps, I junk, worth more to me in parts and scrap than spending money on it to drive.
  21. Whats with the lever by the shifter...E brake?
  22. I think you guys were pretty harsh on carnuck, what happened to the "good time" rule? Myself, I'm gonna be running an HO motor, intake, and exhaust with Renix engine controls.... And a "bit" of work is relative to whether you are a good mechanic or a novice or using the term not in your correct context...really? Bout makes me a "bit" scared to speak up, "might give bad advice, and be told to move on", guess if my advise was bad then at least two people are out, me for bad advice, the OP for askin, and the board who has to listen to drivel (mine included), instead of everybody gettin their panties in a bunch and suggesting to find another board...aren't we here to help and learn. "IIyye... the Comanche pirate forum board" "how dare you give questionable advice!" "AARRGGHH!"
