not sure about the alternator idea (though it might be the best use of a dana 35 ever!), but water and a battery bank would be high on the list for an extended off-the-grid jaunt.

and don't say "Everything" as I can't afford to do that. But there's a 2.5 with AC in a junkyard near me and I really don't remember what all is unobtainium.

that's a good idea right now the topper is stored on one of my spare beds. it's a real pain to heft over to the trailer.

that part isn't new-to-the-Jeep though. the changes since before the noise were: front diff, rear diff, and the angles of the front halfshafts. Being that the pitch changes with suspension changes leads me to think the rear axle is out of the picture. Being that the front diff was empty of oil and sitting under cover behind the barn for a while leads me to think the support bearings in the diff which were the most . Should have changed them when it was easy. this is all a logical decision though, and that's good for a guess, but not good for a "I know".

me too! double thick cardboard is just the perfect blend of padding and disposable. plus provides short term protection against those little biting ants that are all over the driveway

that's the problem. I can't leave it as a pure camping rig. I need to to be a utility trailer too, so whatever I build for inside the bed must be removable. But honestly that shouldn't be too difficult since it's far less ambitious than the Comansion and there's only me so the bed is smaller.

with spacer adapters. the 17s are a 5 on 5" bolt pattern (MJs are 5 on 4.5") no idea what the 16s are.

I can totally appreciate the lightness of a single rig sans trailer. my only real issue with rooftop tents is the lack of a basecamp (kinda like an RV). I gotta set up and tear down every time I was to go exploring in the Jeep. This isn't a problem with some trips, but I'd need a whole separate tent for places like Moab (which isn't a deal killer since it's just a cheap tent). between this stupid year and the KJ still randomly acting a fool, the plan has been on the back burners. This is the overall look though. truck bed with a cap. One side of the bed will be a sleeping platform with foam, the other will be boxes of gear. still debating a roofrack on the topper (I want one, but don't really want to pop holes in my otherwise perfect cap). I'd like to camp with the tailgate down (it's super hard to open) so I'll need to fab up a door. I was thinking probably from an old tent so it'll have screen and a simple zipper. With no gas tank or exhaust here's a shocking amount of space under the bed and I'm not sure what to do with it all.

you should ask that in teh Tech forum so more eyes will see it. not everyone reads the builds on a regular basis.

a "build thread" can be as complicated as a V8 swap on 1-ton axles or as simple as introducing your truck and telling us a bit about it. you should as about the rebuild kits in the Tech forum so more eyes will see it. I haven't rebuilt an engine yet, so I don't have an opinion.

fullsize wagoners have a 6-bolt wheel pattern (6 lug nuts). the wheel mating surface (frequently abbreviated to WMS) it the flat surface on the brakes onto which the wheel touches and mounts.

I can go back for a laundry list of items. just not "grab all you can!" pullapart is just too expensive for that.
