what should be saved from a renix 2.5L engine bay?
Pete M replied to Pete M's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm back. managed to snag the entire throttle body assembly, manifold sensors, airbox top, airbox ducts, AC bracket (one bolt hole is broken off but I have it), distributor, and some other little things. they wanted far more for the pump than I could pay pump reservoir was broken bottom of airbox was broken coolant tank and cap were both broken tried to charge me a total of 36 bucks for a cheap old air horn assembly. I politely declined. Noticed on this trip that there are 3" spacer blocks for the rear lift and bolt/clamp spreader things on the front coils. eek. -
those airhorns better be functional

yes eventually.

is that a spare tire crank?

I used them to pull the retainers for XJ hood insulation the other day. took seconds to remove it all and no damage to the insulation

yeah, the 35 isn't long for this world behind a v8. The explorer 8.8 is a good choice. don't pay extra for a v8 version as they are the same inside as the v6 and you're going to trim the brackets off anyway.

made myself a little scrub brush to do the inside of the backup light lens. improved version on the left.

it typically happens when the truck is picked up on a lift and then set back down. the process stretches the linkage out and you need to make sure it goes back into the proper orientation. very common.

a regear will put a lot more spunk you her step

my technique will work for most all rear wheel drive rigs. a permanent fulltime AWD system makes things... harder.

it appears that your prop valve is pointed the wrong way. the rod coming off the diff cover should point straight up, and the swing arm should point to the pass side.
-
for better or for worse, it's definitely a dana 35. to determine gear ratio, jack up one tire, put the truck in neutral, spin that tire around exactly twice and count the number of times the driveshaft rotates. 3 and a half is 3.55 just over 4 is 4.10 etc. if the axle has a posi, you need to jack up both rear tires and spin one tire around once (meaning the other will also spin around once simultaneously) and count the driveshaft rotations like before.

here's a step so you don't have to stand on the seat. and a couple neat storage ideas that drop down from the roof of the cap

that's kinda what I figured. thanks!

moving this over to Tech for now so more eyes will see it. -
what color is it? I'm curious if the paint code description is correct or not

update: the 24hr soak (with occasional agitation) in dishsoap and warm water seems to have removed 90% of the smell. now starting a Febreze and sun-drying regimen...

it is important to match your weapon to the task at hand. my main enemy is the briers out in the back acre. string is just about useless.

is the AC compressor unique or just the brackets? how about the AC hoses? are they available aftermarket? -

sorry, forgot to mention it's an XJ, so I'm limited to XJ things. -
Haven't thought about this stuff in a while, but I do have a ton of idea-pics from when my uncle was talking about wanting a hunting XJ. here are a few: it may not be obvious, but that solar panel slides underneath the rack.
