the fact that it failed after such a short amount of time wouldn't fill me with hope of any kind. he clearly did something wrong. mine had the slightest surface rust in a few spots, but the installer refused to go further until I address it. rear window had the same thing going on.

mid-line trims could have the big piece of chrome. only the highest trims got both. that's why the diamond is so rare. only found on XLS and Laredos and such.

not every truck needs to be a prize-winner. I would clean up the interior, get it running and make it a simple driver.

I'd just primer/paint it for the time being.

a handful of mine survived if you need some.

definitely a maybe on that.

Dome light seems impossible?
Pete M replied to JZLAJeep's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I long ago stopped trying to fix them and just get the Euramtec lights instead. very close to original stuff. -
if you get it replaced, make dang sure that the gluing surface on the truck is in perfect condition. if the last guy was in a hurry, he may have tried bonding to a flawed surface.

yes. the glass is the same. just need to tell the guy to skip the rubber when he goes to install it.
-
side note, you may (or may not) need to nip off the metal tabs if you go with the rubber trim. some guys found they interfered with the rubber, most did not. my best guess is some sort of inconsistency with different manufacturers of the trim? dunno. I'm in the middle of this swap and since we found a bit of surface rust under the glass and the whole process stopped for me to deal with it anyways, I nipped them off just to be on the safe side.
-
order 97+ Cherokee glass. same exact stuff, but far more plentiful for... some reason. if you want, you can let them install the rubber trim with it instead of reusing your metal trim.
-
so you're looking for the gasket?

not everyone hates the 2.8. it's perfectly fine as long as you understand it's not a v8.

utility knife, glass knife (the funky one that you can pull on) and the piano wire saw thing (technical term). the plastic inside was definitely sun baked and so the outer layer of the glass just cracked or broke off at the slightest force. I've seen guys remove 60 year old windshields from classic cars where the glass was worth like 5 grand, so with enough care anything is possible. but old laminated glass that's readily available is just not worth the attempt. in my opinion.

86 2.8 to 3.4 or 3.8 swaps
Pete M replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
you might need to contact Jeepco directly. I'm not sure if he gets messages from replies. -
at this point I'm prepared to suggest to every owner to get your windshield replaced and R+R your rear window just to check for rust and refresh your urethane seal. also, now I have first-hand experience as to why no one should every even try to remove a windshield with the hope of using it again. 35 year old laminated glass SUCKS.
-
Safelite came by to replace the windshield and we found surface rust under the urethane. so I spent the rest of the day fixing that and tarping it up until next week when they can come back and finish instalation. rear window is getting done too.
