They could have just added in a leaf. Can you snap a couple pics of the leafs?

did you check the connector behind the tire?

If I remember this right, and if everything goes perfect, you'll need a floor jack, 2 jack stands, an angle grinder,whatever wrench it takes (15mm? 18mm?), and a can of PB Blaster (or other rust penetrant, not WD-40). maybe $50 or so in costs if you get the inexpensive stuff. All Jeep owners should own these tools. :D Add in a hammer and a long screwdriver to help the process along.

later years of the Explorer 8.8 has disk brakes, and the Jeep Dana 44 can be upgraded to disks fairly easily.

I would most definitely drive a 4.0/stick on 31" tires and 4.56 gears. :D and I'd smile the entire time. :D :D :D No different than a v6 Rodeo running factory 4.30 gears and 29" tires. oh, and a blown rear axle is a pretty poor reason to kill off a truck. :( A hundred bucks and an afternoon's work and it'd be up and running again. :thumbsup:

I picked up my set of WJ arms for like $20 and installed them myself. not too bad of a job if you have the right tools. 31" MTRs on a stock height MJ

what trans do you have? 4speed, 5speed or auto? What size tires? Did you change the fuel filter? Another contributor to sluggishness is a plugged up catalytic converter.

checked the floors yet? any leaks from the clutch master cylinder? how old are the battery cables? checked and cleaned all the grounds yet?

"Renix" is the name of the ignition system on 86-90 MJs. in 91 they got a whole new system which is generally referred to as the "Chysler" or "H.O." systems. If I remember right, the name is a combination of Bendix and Renault.

keep an eye on all local craigslists. I recommend one of those mass craigslist websites that lets you search multiple craigslist areas at the same time. (I use crazedlist.org, but there are others) make sure you add in all the typical misspellings too. 2 'm's, 2 'e's, etc.

The Dana 30 is actually a fairly stout little axle. upgrade the shafts/U-joints (and I would add in a small truss) and guys regularly run 33 or even 35 inch tires. :thumbsup:

why are you pulling it apart?

close but not quite. I retrofitted a late model t-case to use the early model speedo cable in my 90. My 88 (the wheelin truck) still only has the Tach for gauging its speed. :D Using a 94 cluster in an 88 truck is next to impossible. the systems behind those needles are completely different. :( Or are you talking about putting just the speedo inside the old cluster?

looks like a brown with white tracer on the electrical diagram. :dunno:

check the connector in the wire harness located right behind the dr side rear tire. corrosion in it stole my brake lights in the 88. :(
