^^ Best way. When I did the seal on my old D35, I simply counted the exposed threads then tightened the nut back to the same spot, then just a bit more. Also make sure to use a new nut.

The factory parts manuals show a pinion crush sleeve (called Spacer, Pinion), for all 86-93 XJ/MJ D35 rear diffs, p/n J3175779.

The XJ/MJ A/C system capacity requires 24 oz. of refrigerant. If the R12 cans you have are 14 oz./ea, it might be sufficient. But first, if you don't have a vacuum pump, you'll need to go to a shop and have them pull a vacuum and check for leaks. I'm still hanging in there with R12, and usually have to recharge (one can) every other year. I still have a small stash of R12 left over.

You took awhile to get to the root cause of the ticket and fine mate. Probably could have rode the bike home no problemo if your license was current and avoided the $115 loss. Good you can yuk about it I guess.

For $500 that solid looking 85 XJ is well worth the $$. Lot's of good parts on it, and it sounds like it's only a fuel problem from sitting.

I have. My first new vehicle was an 85 S10 with the 2.8 and 700R 4-speed. Bought it in VA, drove it for a year, then got orders to the Philippines. I drove it over and under the local "roads" for 4+ years there, then shipped it back to VA w. about 130K on it. Always did oil/filter every 3K miles, and took good care of it. Except for the usual fender benders that are unavoidable there, I never had any problems with it, ever. Needed something bigger by then and got an XJ, then sold the S10 to a co-worker in VA, and left for a new assignment in Guam. About a month later I go an email from him. The engine had seized on him while cruising down I95. He wasn't happy, but realized shiite happens occasionally. Never had an exhaust leak with the S10 either........

OP, you installed a new sender, si? First, where did you get the new sender and what's the part number, and second, did you connect the output wire to the new sender?

Did you pull the steering wheel and check the plastic turn signal canceling cam? They crack, or the pin breaks off, or the pressure spring under it breaks. This will cause intermittent, inconsistent, and/or no turn signal canceling. Pretty common problem with the Saginaw columns.

^^ Agree. Engine tuning, drivetrain condition, driving habits, and tire pressure, in that order, all have more to do with optimizing performance vs. economy than the fuel octane rating. Correct all the above before wasting money on fuel. Case in point: I once had a 1963 Studebaker Avanti R2. The engine was a 289 V8 with a Paxton supercharger and 9.75:1 compression ratio. It would only run w/o pinging on 103 octane rated Sunoco 260 gas. Mileage was 9MPG on a good day. After a complete tuneup w. dyno testing and new tires mileage went up to a consistent 12-13MPG and I was able to use a lower rated fuel. Just one example; there were lots more over the years. Unfortunately I never changed my horrendous driving habits though.......

Really? The 84-93 XJ bucket seat brackets are the same for both 2DR and 4DR. And neither will "bolt right in" to an MJ without modification because the floor pan is completely different. The XJ bucket seats however will bolt to MJ seat brackets with no problems.

What a shame. You have a lot more tolerance than I think I would have had. Who was out test driving it? The same fool who screwed up the wheel?

Measure what the charging voltage is directly across the battery posts. Also clean up all your mains cable terminations and ground points.
