I have three, two fully working. They're exactly as cool as you think they are. I've also had the same thoughts about moving the HVAC controls, but eventually decided on just the top unit and a DSP for equalization. The full unit will be a bitchin' shop radio some day though.

That’s pretty awesome, I’ve been looking into doing this in my MJ again and it’s definitely doable i just need the time to do it

mid-line trims could have the big piece of chrome. :L:   only the highest trims got both.  that's why the diamond is so rare.  only found on XLS and Laredos and such.

Didn’t know that Pete, that’s good to know, next high trim I see I’ll be sure to snag them, do you know if Chiefs were supposed to come with them or not

Lately I have been playing with towing, and it’s lots of fun, I’ve been building this home made trailer built in the 60’s and trying to restore and upgrade it all at once, as for the MJ towing, so far I think the most I’ve towed is about 3000 lbs with no brake controller and it goes fantastic, braking could always be improved but it is sufficient, plus imo the trailer and truck look really good together

Yesterday My parents and I figured out how to operate the cricut vinyl cutting machine and we cut tailgate letters for my Comanche as a test.

I Have also been towing with it more lately planning on a bigger trip up north towing soon so I am trying to get a feel for it.

This is about the maximum weight I’d tow with my truck in its current configuration, trailer brakes or 4.10’s are going to be the next improvement for towing but then we can bump it up to the full 5000

guestimating in the picture here we are between 3600 and 4000 lbs

Finally the D44 has been installed, over the last week my Dad and I set up the gears, and then installed it in the garage just in time for the truck to drag race.

We didn’t do amazing on the strip, but before the track got closed way early, I ran a 17.2 in the 1/4, I hope next event after a little more drive time with the new axle I’ll be able to get in the 16’s with a good launch and maybe some shorter tires.

I was mainly at the strip for the truck meet and it made my day to not only beat my buddy in the liberty, but also to take home the best Jeep award.

Finally yesterday the D44 got some good use after we got 2 loads around 2000lbs each of bricks. It was an experience for sure

Edit: After counting and weighing the bricks it came out to 3400ish lbs with me and my dad in the truck PER TRIP. So over 6000 lbs of bricks in total:beerbang::laugh:

Awesome. Sure does feel nice to have a D44 under the rear! Should have been standard equipment IMO. I feel sorry for the guy like me with his beat up MJ at the show who saw your beautiful truck roll in and knew he wasn’t taking first place in nicest Jeep category. She sure looks great going down the track. Racehorse as well!!

What kind of wheels are those? I have em but don't know much about them.

The ones in the picture you quoted look like chrome versions of the anniversary wheels/ 5.9 wheels, but as NHMJXJ said I have chrome ravine wheels

Thank you guys very much :D

After a couple weeks with the D44 I can say I’m very happy with it.

Also probably the slowest racehorse there putting down a 17.25 in the 1/4mile…

Have you happened to check the temperature your D44 runs at by chance? Just curious.

As a matter of fact yes I have

it was something we were worried about after my dad and I put it together, it was running hot for the first 100 ish miles, between 160 and 180 degrees Fahrenheit on the pinion

now after it’s been driven on for about 500 miles it runs a solid 120 on the pinion

Sweet. Lol. I did not rebuild mine, took it straight out of an XJ with 161k.  I’ve been doing heat checks as well on the diff cover. I’ll have to check the pinion temp. My cover runs about 140-150 degrees on hot days with no load.
Using El cheapo, O’reillys gear oil for a “flush” then going to a better Synthetic oil.
I was curious if oil would make a difference in running temperature. Have also considered a finned aluminum cover to help dissipate heat. There’s one here locally on CL  for $25,  probably worth a shot.
Thanks.

A few weeks back I finally decided I had enough of looking at my bare headliner with no fabric so I started the task of stripping the interior, as I had also yet to pull up the rug… So I also decided to peek under the carpet 8A5A49ED-BEB8-49F2-ACAD-F1AB44EDEA09.jpeg.488fe79dba513998864c4041264a00bd.jpeg

Not too bad for 73k original New England miles, but after seeing it I couldn’t leave it as is,

A2971718-3C3E-4000-9E1A-9FE8C7A74D3B.jpeg.f7c34e6f587975549ebf0d96f14518c0.jpeg

After grinding I found all the thin spots, Then cut until all that was left was solid metal.

DD8A8039-636D-4F04-9535-B02AE247DF14.jpeg.38587e19872013f4229dd2494eb60d5a.jpeg

Then with a little help from my dad we formed a patch Panel to get welded in.

EB5C8986-9CCC-4E15-8237-7D2CB24FD83D.jpeg.85a06dc2cef52a341030d79d81bca920.jpeg

Then hammer forge, and spot weld, and run beads to patch it in:05608FA6-9A10-44B2-987C-65550C4C454B.jpeg.7e1db0d7ce17f8da3c2354ebe15776f8.jpeg

(The gloss finish is some clear Por-15 we had lying around)

Then repeat for the drivers side

Then finished with grey paint on top to match the factory, as well as seam sealing. (The small hole on the drivers side trans tunnel was riveted in place and sealed, as it was right above the fuel lines)

Finally to the part that this is actually about, at the same time I had stripped the rest of the interior, and pulled out the headliner my father had ordered for it over 10 years ago for it to finally get installed

68FBC107-7FC2-43BE-9449-AF914E9BA9BD.jpeg.e517ea8d58bc56625a4b7ad7846c9e66.jpeg

Amazingly after being rolled up in a box for 10 years the headliner didn’t want to be in its final shape, even after being layed out on the couch for 3 days

The headliner really tied the interior back together, everyone who has rode in it since really appreciates how much it makes the red pop.

One last side note for anyone wondering what the wire for the cargo lamp looks like inside, and if the hole is in the metal under, here it is. The connector is tied up to the drivers side B-Pillar light, and the hole is in the center of the roof substructure for the wire to go through (This Is on my 1989)

Also I found the Shifter floor delete panel very interesting, as this is a 2wd auto on the column, the floor has just a bolt on cover 98085D41-7857-4B09-AED1-57630F93544D.jpeg.352d24b7820507cc305dfd25196aca22.jpeg

Maybe not the most essential part but definitely a cool one, This one was made by @boxyjeep It’s a very high quality sticker and from my research it’s almost identical to the factory one!
Definitely a necessary addition to any MJ with the Metric Ton Package.

Glad to see it installed!  I sell them here for anyone else interested.  I also have a prototype “improved” design that’s a little bigger and doesn’t have the clear backing.
