Pete M Posted July 18, 2020 Share Posted July 18, 2020 lots of negativity in the world right now so I thought I'd share that I watched a hummingbird taking a shower in my sprinkler today. He would follow the spray across the yard and then fly to a branch to shake and preen. If she wasn't a she, she would already have been brought inside the house, but we've had bad luck with female cats in the past (bad temperament and fighting with our other cats). So she stays outside, mostly in our garage. Anyways, she follows me around everywhere I go when I'm outside. It's really cute, she's just like a little dog. Ill grab a pic of her when I go feed her "breakfast" here in a little bit. She sits in front of the garage door every morning until I come down (usually to leave for work). Looks just like out Abner (short for abbey-normal he's polydactyl on all four feet....cat is nothing but huge feet). He's the one all balled up on the chair, you really can't tell how big he is from the pic. 19 lbs the last time we weighed him. I think Fat Cat has him by a few lbs though. She was a feral for the first year of her life so it took years to get to that stage of trust. plus I've got a 75% success rate on calling her to me. She knows she's getting a back rub. But then she has us trained too and knows who/when to go to during the course of the day for some pettin' or playin'. for example, every evening she'll walk to my room, meow, and then run back to the living room and wait for me to come grab a string and play. Believe it or not, the last time we weighed her, she was only 11 pounds. I think she has lost weight since then though. Lots of these pictures are from when she still had her winter coat. mjeff87 Posted July 19, 2020 Share Posted July 19, 2020 Ralph (the one sleeping on the bay window) is truly feral. He's a farm cat we got from my wife's aunt/uncle up in rural PA. The other 2 orange ones came from a rescue shelter down here in VA. They're all a bit "special" in their own way, lol. Three completely different personalities. One thing I've discovered, they don't like it when I rearrange the furniture. Changed up the bedroom and skinny cat took one look, hissed, and wouldn't come in for a month. Thankfully the owner had his phone number on the collar tag ( he lives in the same neighborhood). Its 105 degrees here today, little guy had no business being out walking the streets in the 'hood. And his owner didn't seem too upset about his escaping....he told me he gets out on occasion through a hole in the fence in his back yard. They are a younger couple, just moved in about 6 months ago. I watched a similar sized dog from the (old) neighbors up the street from me get squashed by a car right in front of my driveway a couple summers ago. It was not pleasant.
