Haven't done much to the Comanche lately because we took a break to build a shed. Purchased a kit from Costco and then modified it :D (2 feet longer, double door on the long side, concrete slab, etc.). Went with a bold blue color for fun. Put up the shed in 5 days during spring break and been fiddling with it for the last 3 months...

I just revived a '90s Millport CNC vertical mill from a non-functioning brick to a floppy-wielding chip thrower. Even though it's a Bridgeport clone machine, it is surprisingly stout and has all Anilam controls with Baldor servos. I documented the entire troubleshooting process and PCB level repairs needed to make CNC throw chips again:

https://salvagedcircuitry.com/90s-cnc-revival.html

I thought you guys might get a kick out of this repair as I'm sure many of you folks like to build your own gadgets and weld up your own contraptions. Having a CNC in your own shop is a personal dream for many, and even though this is no Haas or DMG Mori, it's still capable!

Here's a video of it working:

Let me know what you think!

Your mill looks a bit stouter than a Bridgeport. I have one of the earlier SuperMax. I removed the Anilam CNC controller and made it manual. I did put on an older Anilam Digital. Having ball lead screws is nice on a manual mill. I have a few other CNC mills. Defiants.  Also, a few Dyna-myte CNC lathes. Someday I'll get them running. Need to get the Monarch 10EE running again. I think the VFD took a hit. I like that you have a horizontal mill. Some stuff just runs easier on them. Also, better for hogging off metal.

Thanks! The Monarch 10EE lathes are excellent machines. My brother wanted one for a while, until he got something even bigger. He's nuts. The horizontal mill is an Italian made Induma. It is incredibly well built and heavy, all the characteristics you want in a horizontal mill . He used it to make a tenth-scale sized steam engine in college.

Much of the Euro stuff is good to excellent. I use to sneer at stuff other than US machines. That's a mistake. We had Sajos at work and a Cincy Horizontals. Sajos held up to the Cincys.

Not a project per se, but we have family that are potato farmers in Idaho and it has become tradition to go work potato harvest for 2-3 weeks. Here are some photos and a video from the farm.

I have never been to Idaho, but it's on my list, I have a friend that has been out that way and he stated it was the most diverse landscape he'd ever encountered, from farmland one minute to breathe-taking mountain ranges:thumbsup: BTW, that's a lot of Tater's:wink: and love seeing/experiencing the northern lights, Been to Canada many times Saskatchewan/Manitoba, riding mountain area on deer hunts:thumbsup:  Project wise, I've got a huge "crater" the previous landowner left me it is 40' x 60' and it starts out ground level and is about 10' deep at the back (dug into a hillside:mad:)image.jpeg.e967dcf9f0604e57f10d90952080d114.jpeg I have been filling it in with crushed concrete (so far about 180 tons + two buildings concrete pads and block I have dismantled) got another load coming tomorrow, it is all the work I have wanted to do lately, and it sure is keeping me from working on the "Heep" hopefully I'll have a house and shop built soon which should help on getting some stuff done:dunno::confused:

Well... I didn't want to post about it yet in the "other cool projects" part of the forum but it looks like I have something else headed my way soon, courtesy of a neighbor up the road from me...

It's not exactly a done deal yet but he's been sitting on this for a long time and he's sick of it taking up space. And despite its looks, it's actually much more solid than one would imagine. New floor pans, probably a grand in New and reman parts to go with it, only two big rust holes to really be concerned about, and it doesn't start! So I'm thinking about picking this up and seeing what I can do for this '84.

If the deal goes through, I apologize ahead of time to my Comanche for having to sit... :( but I've always wanted to tinker around with one of these things. It helps I have an '88 Ranger that gave me plenty of relatable experience.

Otherwise, I've just been rearranging the shop with the new air compressor since the old one took a crapolla on me...

^^^good deal, I have never had a Brono II but have owned a few rangers, I had really good luck with them, In fact before I "found" the Comanche I ended up with, It was located during a search for a 4 X 4 ranger to do a TDI swap on, I like the Comanche and it's the 4th Jeep I've owned, I'm just a perpetual car, truck, motorcycle and equipment Junkie:doh::laugh::laugh:

The Bronco II is to Ford what the Cherokee was to Jeep. On the same platform, the Ranger is to Ford what the Comanche was to Jeep. I swear all I need is an XJ now... But I'll settle with my ZJ... That blue cheese wedge...

Yeah, Bronco IIs and Rangers don't share the awesome 4.0, the excellent manual and even auto trannies, or even the power the Jeeps had in those days. But there is one thing a '83-'94 Ranger and an '84 Bronco II has that my Comanche does not have. Duraspark. At least not to my knowledge...

Apparently, this makes an '84 BII more desirable than the rest of the lot. Swapping in a Duraspark improves reliability and serviceability significantly, and bonus points, AMC Jeep also used Duraspark under a different name, I think in the CJs though.

Motorcycles FTW! Shame I had to sell mine to move to AZ a while back.

I don't currently own a bike at all, I have really been thinking about an African Twin or a Kawi KLR, I am out on the street bikes, I love(d) them but just too much traffic in the area it would be used most, love the Idea of a dual sport and the area I live in is about 25 miles from a major town and offers plenty of back road and off-road adventures, the biggest concern where it would be used is wildlife (deer)

I have a friend I used to run with that brought his African Twin by it's 1100cc's of pure adrenalin rush:thumbsup:

Yup, going to be the ultimate car guy house.  2400 sqft of attached garage/workshop with 2200 sqft of living space.

I can say, showing up the the job site with a Comanche makes you an instant rock start with the crew.

Dude BIIs are the best. I had two of them before and it is weirdly one of the smallest/roomiest interior vehicles out there. They turn on a nickle. I will have another one someone.

Swap that 4.0 from an Exploder in there and be set!

I hear a carbureted 302 V8 is also a great candidate. I dunno yet, haven't made up my mind. Whatever the case, it would get a much needed tranny upgrade.
