That's rediculous.  Yeah sell it to someone out of state or sell it to someone in the state with them knowing that's what they are facing.  I don't know how exactly their stupid laws work there but could you have family in another state register and plate it?  Then "buy" it from them to avoid all the extra fees and crap from it not being registered?  What about registering as a classic or show car?

I had one that was a generation before that, I think a '76 model, with that same engine, RWD. It was an awesome little car. I used it as a winter beater when I lived in Michigan, and had to put my old VW's away for the winter.

as original as that car looks, there's just no way it's worth less than those taxes+scrap.  I'm sure you can find a buyer if you don't want to keep it. :D

Pressure wash all that crap off. Detail it, then sell it.

This is a good place to start.

Clean it and detail it. I bet it will be worth much more than $750 when you’re done.

Was the car originally white or was that white painted on the brown?

The car was originally brown. I think the white may be some sort of primer or something, I’m not entirely sure.

Good news: the car actually owes $160 in fees to register. Bad news: apparently the bank still owns it and it will need to be smogged. For right now, because the house it’s at will be sold in the next few weeks, she may be coming home with us. No junker for now though.

Well, a change of events happened. The car has now gone to the junker. A combination of the bank owning it, the original owner potentially being dead depending on who owned it (and subsequent confusion with the DMV), and a general need for an overhaul on the car all led to her goin to the yard. Pulled the badges off before she was taken though so I guess that’s a plus.7db30748381b2d01af9382153023df10.jpg
