rylee144
Got the rear axle and drive line pulled. My u joint crumbled when it came off. All the brake lines were rusty.
Jesse J
did you figure out your brake lines?
rylee144
no. instead of figuring it out then possibly having to do it again when i get the rear axle in I chose to leave it for now.
Jesse J
yeah that sucks. I think I might replum my entire truck in the future put a 97 xj booster in it re hardline the entire thing.
rylee144
sounds like a big under taking but I'm sure its worth it. I'll prolly do the bigger booster at some point
Jesse J
yeah exactly Id have to swap for rear disks for it to be worth it

rylee144
Finally got the transmission out! I've been told to replace the clutch while the trans is out. Hows it look? Worth replacing?
jdog
replace it cause as soon as you put the trans back in the clutch will go out, we won't be able to tell you unless you remove the pressure place to get to the clutch. should have 6 bolts around the perimeter, just be careful as its under tension
Pete M
I can't see the clutch plates through the steel but I would replace it anyways since you're this deep into the disassembly. check on that pilot bearing too.
rylee144
When I order a clutch kit do I order one for a renix 4.0 or a newer cherokee with an ax15?
jdog
What trans are you going to install?
rylee144
Ax15
MiNi Beast
how was the clutch before? how was the pedal? they are same clutch plate setup. peace of mind to install new. little grease in pilot bearing and slap it back in with ax15 and run it. worse thing to happen is have to replace it and since you've did it once it will be easier the second time. a breeze after the 5th time. other wise install full kit, fresh bearing and seals and good lube job. next. rylee144
It seemed good but I am a novice. Never felt new and never felt bad lol. I'll get it removed and take some pics. Prolly go the new route tho. I won't get to it until Wednesday. ..I think
MiNi Beast
what your looking for are bent fingers on the pressure plate, and the clutch disk is like brake pads, want clean and not gummed up with oil or shout. also would like to see good grooves on the disc itself. kinda like slotted rotors as this aides in the stopping and holding power. they are affordable enough to justify installing new while tore down this far. we all been there the first time. you doing good. keep up the good work and youll enjoy soon enough. MiNi Beast
id spray it down and run it myself. but if you dd it an its a reliability goal, install new now and enjoy longer
MiNi Beast
your flex plate can be machined though at local shop. a few bucks but if its smooth, run it.

I just don't have many adult responsibilities yet and I love preventative maintenance. My RockAuto order was over $300 for my engine swap and I was replacing parts that were still ok, but I replaced them because it was easy.

I’m deep enough in my truck that pretty much everything is new! Rylee, you can buy a new flywheel and new clutch stuff all for less than $150 off of Rock Auto IIRC. rylee144
I ended up getting the whole kit with flywheel and also a rear main seal and pan gasket. The clutch kit and flywheel have a lifetime warranty. More work to do now.
