HOrnbrod
Thanks to Adam (Strokermjcomanche) for alerting me to this gem on Ebay. I picked it up the other day for $13.50 + shipping. It looks much better than the pic and was advertised as "untested". After removing and repairing a wiring hack on it's harness I fired it up on the bench yesterday and it works great on AM, FM, and CD. I ordered a reverse harness so I can break out the wiring and will be fully testing all the functions and cleaning it up before installing. I've been looking for one of these XJ-specific factory CD players for years! I've heard it was an $300 option back in the day. Again, kudos to Adam for the heads-up. fiatslug87
NICE! What years were those available? Just curious, still like my stock cassette deck that I added a Scosche IPFMRDS to use my old iPod. Plugs in through the antenna, senses when the iPod is connected and automatically plays it, also charges. Ran the 30 pin connector cable under the center console and through the e-brake slot, totally concealed by the cup holder.
HOrnbrod
Mike, I was first made aware of these by our buddy Gianni. I didn't even know they existed until he showed me. Hopefully he'll chime in.

87MJTIM
My 2¢. I specifically purchased an aftermarket from Worst Buy that does not have a cassette or CD. It is bluetooth and iPod/iPhone ready. I was tired of cass and CD all over the interior. ...but is looks nice. :clapping:
gogmorgo
Looking forward to installed photos. Doesn't quite look like it will match the aesthetic of the 80's-tastic MJ interior, but it's hard to judge. Tim, if I could find a modern head unit that matches the MJ interior, that would be pretty sweet. Everything I've seen so far, even the higher class stuff and "retro" decks just looks way too out of place. Too many flashing lights, big LCD screens, не хорошо. 91Pioneer
Meh, I'm not a fan of the look of it because I know it's not really factory (to an MJ). But then again I don't own any CDs either LOL My truck just has AM/FM radio and I'm good with that ;) My car (DD) has Internet radio (Slacker) and I can just tell it what song to play and it will play it :)
Minuit
Yeah, listen to 91Pioneer. That CD unit would clash with your interior Don. Not enough chrome. It'd look a lot better against the black trim in mine, methinks. :D The Kenwood KDC-852 is the least hideous aftermarket headunit I've come across. Still gaudy and very clashing with the "boxes everywhere" interior design of the MJ. The factory tape decks just look so much better. To be honest, pretty much all of the aftermarket things I can think of are uglier than their factory counterparts.

schardein
Great find! I love awesome ebay deals. I recently installed a Kenwood KMM-BT312U. It does not have a CD player, which is ok because I listen to my IPod 99.9% of the time. The cool thing is this stereo is only about 2/3 as deep as a regular stereo, which allowed me to put an Alpine KTP-445U amp behind the stereo for 45x4 watts rms. It really is a great setup for me, but your factory CD player is a win for cool factor!
gogmorgo
I've currently got a factory radio/tape deck with the clock from a '93 XJ with the nfg tape player pulled out and a getto-rigged aux cord hacked into it's place and hanging out the opening for the cassette. I can only get three fuzzy radio stations out here so all I really need is the aux input, but I do have a not inconsiderable CD collection. It'd look a lot better against the black trim in mine, methinks. :D I think it'll look just fine in there Min. It even has the ground output on the correct pin for my power antenna when you turn it on. Pure PnP. The other two Jeep CD players from this era (one for the Wrangler, the other a pull-out version that I've never seen) don't have the power antenna output. terrawombat
I like it. Simple, effective and factory. An AUX plugin would make it just about perfect, IMO.
