JeepsOLot Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Here's my dash in the Eliminator, after I got the OEM clock working. Image Not Found I still have the original Jeep AM/FM radio, keeping it for restoration purposes.
mikekaz1 Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Curious what was the year split/ difference between the clock pod that had the big square and the one with the bars?

Minuit Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 I like how the RHD climate controller is just the LHD one upside down. Lazy as usual, Jeep.
gogmorgo Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Lazy would have been using the rhd version. They went to the whole effort of designing a new face plate and flipping the fan speed switch.

I'm guessing the switch was to make it more uniformed and symmetrical. But curious what the 91+ empty light sockets are for... and was their any use to the old style square?
gogmorgo Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 I haven't seen any factory options that go there other than the fluid sentinel. And the clock of course.
HOrnbrod Posted February 29, 2016 Author Posted February 29, 2016 The 91 clock indicator light socket holes were not used by the factory on the XJ/MJ Jeeps, but maybe the same clock was used on other vehicles, especially in Japan where the clock was made. It's a great place to pop in lights though instead of hacking a hole in your dash or something. Indicator lights are always nice..........
HOrnbrod Posted March 23, 2016 Author Posted March 23, 2016 Well, the CD player crapped out on the bench, and I had to have it repaired. It needed a laser and some of the drive parts replaced. Stuck it in this afternoon. Had a little problem with the power antenna going up and down with the CD player OFF/ON button and It's working great now. Thanks for the extra bracket Adam, it also worked fine after a bit of tinkering.
fiatslug87 Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 Looks great. You're pretty hardcore to have it fixed, however, since it cost you ~$25 that leaves room in the budget. Now you have to synchronize the clocks. :)
terrawombat Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 Curious as to what these "CD" things he's talking about? Is that like a laserdisc?

HOrnbrod Posted March 24, 2016 Author Posted March 24, 2016 I've nothing against technology, but something like this in a 25+ year old MJ? :ack:
87MJTIM Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 I like period specific, too...most of the time. I don't have cassettes any more and CDs take up too much space. I can plug in my phone and play more music than I can carry on CD. Additionally, the radio is bluetooth; phone calls come through the speakers - ultra hands free. For my CJ, I got a retro radio that is fully electronic. Vintage vibes.

87MJTIM Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 No pics, but here is the www: http://vintagevibes.net/jeep_cj.htm
Minuit Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 Now that I've upgraded from the nearly new Kenwood to a tape deck, I know that feeling of getting the clocks syncronized. It's an interesting ritual :D And yup, tape player works great

As I recall, you are one of the few original MJ owners we have on the forum. I'll use a word I hate, but justified in this case, that is awesome. I can understand the kiddies sticking stuff like that in their dash, but not you mate.
87MJTIM Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 Thanks. My MJ will be 29 yrs. old in May. Only one owner! Still my daily driver
HOrnbrod Posted March 24, 2016 Author Posted March 24, 2016 After mine, I like yours the best Don. Damn, that's gorgeous Mike. Love the clock treatment.
fiatslug87 Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 Thanks Don. I had a hard time matching the Laredo argent, close but not quite the same, however I couldn't bring myself to paint over the stock dash panel. Hard to tell in the pic but I also painted the top part of the console and cup holder to give that silver on black look.
HOrnbrod Posted March 24, 2016 Author Posted March 24, 2016 Yes, in looking it closely after I posted, I saw the left side dash indicator cluster and the console stuff. The argent and burgundy or porno red interior go so well together. Nice work and perfect period correct.
