BryceOJ
So I just want to know why you all chose the Jeep Comanche as your daily, wheeling, or whatever you want to use it as truck compared to any other compact sized truck like S10s, Rangers, Tacomas. What makes it better? Is it the best compact sized truck to own? What are the pros ands cons of having an MJ? I chose a Comanche, first off my aunt had one and when ever Id see it. I'd think that's a nice looking, sporty truck. And slowly began attach to it. The thing wasn't running for 6 months. She said if I got it running I could have it! What'd I do? Research, get help from CC and other jeep forums to learn about it and I got it started and got it for free. I fell in love with it. It being a pretty rare truck made me want it even more. I like to be unique and stand out and this truck did just that. I chose a comanche cause it was available to me and it just being so unique and cool i had to have one. I know that jeeps are bullet proof and will last and that is another reason why I chose it. Now I want another one!
onlyinajeep726
I started off with an XJ and got hooked to the Jeep world. Never knew the MJ existed until I saw someone rolling by on one in the parking lot where I worked at the time. I initially thought someone had hacked up a Cherokee and thought it looked really nifty. A few google searches later (I think I googled Jeep Cherokee Truck) and I found the Comanche and this forum. Been in love with them ever since. They're particularly special to me because they're basically a Cherokee from the front seats forward, making parts much easier to obtain. I'm currently adapting my MJ to fit a 4.0 from a donor XJ and going to build her up nice for a DD. That's my reasoning for wanting/owning an MJ. My next option would have been a Toyota or Nissan truck.
BryceOJ
Sounds great! It's funny how the majority of people don't know jeep made a truck! That's why I like it. It stands out. And good luck with the build. I have a 2.5L 2wd automatic, the one I got for free. I want a 4.0L 4x4 5 speed. I don't think I have the time or money or handiness to convert mine. I plan to find another with all my wishes In it haha
johnny quest
cause the 4.0/ax15/np231 is bulletproof, you can get most of the parts from junkyard XJs, and cause i like to be different ;)
mpace6a
Because, compared to every other compact truck of the time, they were the best. Still are the best, IMO. Great offroad, great on road, extremely lightweight for a compact pick-up. Its a Jeep Truck, parts are easy to find, easy to work on, kool factor, sexy as hell, more fun to drive than anything I've ever been in.
GirsMJ86
Because it's a Jeep. I needn't say more. Call me a fan boy if you want, but I've seen nothing but junk from other brands or I just plain won't buy a few brands. The 4.0 is just too good of an engine to pass up while having the perfect size truck IMO.
BryceOJ
Good point you all. I think that it is the perfect truck. And I wish I had the 4.0 with the one I got! Guess it's another reason to get another one!
Pete M
Cons: very little cab space Pros: um, everything else? :D I mean, find me another little truck with an available fuel injected 6 cylinder engine, a solid front axle and 2000 lbs payload capacity? jimoshel
Cab ain't big enough? That's what the bed is for.
johnj92131
Price was right - $1150 Long Bed SnugTop shell Big Ton Package Lots of documentation since Day 1, including original window sticker No rust or body damage Cheap parts from XJ all over the place Great occasional work truck Comanche Club support
KYMJ
All I had was JEEPS, a Wrangler and 2 Grands. When I wanted a small truck I looked for another Ranger or S-10 and ran across a Comanche. Had forgotten about them, Had to have one.
aquiring93
I inherited mine from my grandfather. He bought it off the lot with 8 miles on it. I can remember riding in it all the time, so naturally I bought it from my grandmother when he passed. IMO no other truck has the same kind of character that the Comanche does. buffalob
Cab ain't big enough? That's what the bed is for. :yes:Now how the hell can anyone argue with that. Rock on Jim. Why the Comanche? all the best out of 40 or more vehicles I have owned over the past 40 years were and are jeeps. ALL of them. Sure there were a couple of others I would not mind having again ('67 2 door fairlane w/390, 66 fastback mustang, 64 Dodge panel Wagon) but by far the jeeps have always been "comfortable" and I've never strayed far or long from them. Wish I still had my '59 Willys pu?...yeah you bet. but the Comanche suits me best.
johnj92131
Very little cab space?? You should try to fit yourself into a VW Rabbit Pickup, aka "Caddy". Cons: very little cab space Pros: um, everything else? :D
ParadiseMJ
It's a Jeep, an automatic chick magnet. It's easy to work on. Parts are cheap There are TONS of possible mods/variations...no two are really alike There are more S-10's, Dakotas and Rangers trashed and thrown away in junkyards...People keep 'em Nobody else has one...a decent one anyway...not around here. Jerry
I needed a robust utility vehicle that could do everyday tasks and then take us dirt road exploring on weekends.
robsimmons
I like Jeeps (Had two Cherokees in the past) It's a Mopar I like "different" - you don't see them often Easy to find parts (from the cab forward anyway) It's 4X4 I like the boxy, aggressive look I like inline 6 cylinders It was a straight up swap for an F250 farm truck I had that needed work and had lots of rust
AMCJeepMJ
I needed a pickup in 2007. My MJ was on the cheap on CL. I have had 2 other cars crap out since then and the MJ still runs; it has been my DD for past 3 years.
Minuit
A year and a half ago, my MJ was an algae covered garden ornament. 3000 miles later and I haven't been let down once so fixing it up is the least I can do. The uniqueness factor doesn't hurt, either. If it was an extended cab I would never have any reason to drive another vehicle.
gogmorgo
Why do I like my MJ? Well, it's just an older kinda beat up truck to most people... until the "wait, is that a Jeep?!?" You don't see too many of them around, but they don't instantly stand out unless you know what you're looking at. It's decently quick, pretty reliable, and even though it's almost falling apart, it still feels solid to drive. When I bought it, I was shopping around for a 2nd gen Camaro, but saw the MJ and had to have it. Way more cool. I was aware of them before I saw it, but never really thought about them until this one fell into my lap. And now you could set it on fire and roll it down a hill, but I still wouldn't trade it for a Coupe Deville. All in all, I guess I'm just a big fan of trucks, a big fan of keeping it domestic, and a big fan of the unique. This one fills all bills. . :MJ 1: . Guest
Because it's got a lot of headroom in that little cab; moreso almost every other older truck I've ridden in. Fits the bill for any and all outings I've ever taken in it. When I used to work landscaping, it could carry just as much equipment as efficiently as the fullsized trucks I used to drive. A solid, eye appealing truck that turns heads wherever I drive. Not to mention I get better mileage in this than my old '97 Sunfire. And did I mention it's American Motors branded? Doesn't get much better than that.
rmoore1031
Lots of cheap parts swap from XJ Cherokees. Pretty reliable, its a Jeep, good gas mileage for its age, and it was already in my driveway when I bought it.
