Alexia Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 The most Chrysler would probably do if they agreed to make repairs is install a heavy duty gas tank skid. It is not like they could afford to redesign the entire fuel system to accommodate moving it in front of the axle.
H3RESQ Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 The numbers are not high enough to warrant a recall. Those #'s are low, especially for cars that have been on the road for that long. Sad for those that got in a accident that made the leak happen, but its just chance and consider. All those rigs count for a million+ rigs on the road, 44 deaths over 20 years will not warrant a recall...

They are seperated 84-92, and 93- 02, as there was some difference in design i guess. They really werent that bad either. They also show a full list of other models and their stats. There are a BUNCH of other vehicles with worse records than the Jeeps, which is why Marchionne told them to screw themselves.

IIRC, there was some guy in the house that wanted to ban CJs and Wranglers as they are prone to roll overs due to their high center of gravity. Pretty sure that there are quite a few makes and models besides Jeep that have that issue, *cough* Land Rover *cough*. You can always count on a politician to find some BS to b*@$£ about instead of finding solutions to important problems.

IIRC, there was some guy in the house that wanted to ban CJs and Wranglers as they are prone to roll overs due to their high center of gravity. Well....think about it: GM still owes Uncle Sam buttloads of money...but Chrysler/Jeep have paid them off....... Besides, the NHSTB had the same problems with our Crown Victoria Police Interceptors, and the Ford dealership here retrofitted a plate on the back of the diff cover that deflected the tank downward in a rear impact where it...uh...hits the ground and...uh.. ruptures. Whoohoo it's fixed!

Not perfect, but much better than they used to be.

Eagle Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 As part of its investigation, the NHTSA claims the older Grand Cherokees and Libertys have fatal crash rates that are about double those of similar vehicles. Are they trying to claim that ZJs, WJs and Libertines crash more often because of design defects? How about just because too many people buy a vehicle that says "Jeep" and think that means the laws of physics no longer apply to their driving?
