Oh God! What the hell was that all bout? I hate jerks like that. Some fourms just get over crowded so no body can keep up with it any more. I have tryed other jeep fourms and there is just so much, and no one willing to help. People ask the same ?'s all the time because they don't no any better the point is just to help out. And then for that guy to come back with aomthing like that? Some people. Huh? Give me a break

As much as I despise the idea of joking about the death of anyone's family... what point did the OP have for putting that in there.. He was trolling for sympathy as badly as the other guy was being a troll to start with.

Unfortunately, that forum has become overrun with trolls. Flaming newbs seemingly is now welcome. It seems to have become the place where people without the technical ability to survive on Pirate and Naxja now congregate to hassle people. And of course as long as the owner's keep seeing revenue they have no desire nor reason to do anything about it.

I guess I have an issue with "assuming positive intent." I would not accept the poster's claims about his brother due to the original post and the way the OP presented the completely unnecessary info. Also, without being on that board, the reply about "get your Bro to help you" may mean that the poster who said that may have more info about the OP's real situation than is evident by one thread out of thousands. Who knows?

Each website sets their own level of acceptable. The most succesful 4x4 site ever, Pirate, makes that exchange look like a sunday sermon. It is like TV: if you don't like the show, just change the channel.

I have belonged to two forums, clubs, before joining CC. One was for Corvairs and the other was for home built aircraft. Both of them started out the same way CC started. A forum where people who shared a common interest could get together and share stories, experiences, share knowledge and offer help when needed. They were successful and the membership rose, going from under 100 to over a 1,000. As they grew you could see the change in the club, going from friendly help and comradally (?) to snide remarks, flaming, name calling and do it my way cause I'm the only one who's right. It finally reached the point where a few individuals were running the show and deciding how things went. almost completely opposite of what the original goal was. Needless to say I dropped out of both of them.

Unfortunately I see the same thing beginning here, on CC. Fellas, and ladies. Let's stop it before it gets to inhouse cat fighting and keep the club the way Pete and the few original members meant it to be. A forum for the enjoyment of a hobby and helping those whe needs it, newbie or old timer. Jim soapbox.gif

Jim, (Or anyone for that matter) if you see this happening please report the post. The rest of the Mods will be sure to put a stop to it as soon as we see it.

The key is to know your location.

Over at pirate, you are walking with the big dogs. They started the rockcrawling comps. They orchestrate most of the events. They are the competitors. They run the companies we buy all our products from. You can't run with the pro's and ask what size tires fit on your stock 2007 Compass...

Here, we are single-make focused, and welcoming. Different mission, different crowd.

Wow, I hope this forum never stoops to those lows. It is so true that people say things online they wouldn't ever say to a person face to face. And if I ask a trivial question and get a response like that there will be one less "Favorites" on my computer. I'm not saying I or anyone shouldn't take a little heat once in a while, but if that turns in to the norm, I've got better things to do with my time. I really appreciate this forum and the help everybody puts into this, thanks for all the inspiration and let's keep it civil!

I have left two forums because of the way they progressed over the years. What it boiled down to was the resale value of the cars came way down and were now affordable by a bunch of young bucks who had no appreciation for the car and would ask questions that would make me shake my head. I still go to those boards every so often to see what has been going on in the community, but it's just not worth my time to weed through the threads of common questions and chest thumpers talking about how they just went 130MPH in a 45MPH zone.

CC has been, by far, the best message board I've ever been a part of. People are always willing to help and whenever there is a disturbance in the peace, the moderators generally put it to rest before it gets too out of hand. I don't see too many internet-egos on this board as I do on the others that I have left and that's a very good thing.

that's just plain terrible! :fs1: i hate when forums go bad. i used to be active in a forum, sportingclays.com, but they went bad. it turned into 5 people just fighting back and forth and badmouthing each other. there was alot of crap that just went on and on. it got to the point that any valid posting ended up with these guys fighting. it wasn't worth postin a questions or response. i'll go back and see what is going on now but it was just to much last time i was on.

I have accounts on several other forums, but I don't even bother anymore. I left Jeepsunlimited when I had an entire thread telling me that if I have to ask questions, I shouldn't be on the forum. ...isn't that the whole point?

This is the only place I go now. My brother has an account, but seems reluctant to post since he doesn't have an MJ, just the XJ. I've told him this is the best place to ask any Jeep related question. Ugh.

I am on pirate, Jeep Forum, Jeepin.com, Jeeps Unlimited, Colorado4x4.org, NAXJA, IFSJA, and a few scout boards.

the only places I still go is pirate to lurk, JF or naxja for searches, or here to post.

Some good can come from the declining MJ population. Since they were selling for $500-$1000, 10 years ago, most folks who get a hold of one want it because it is a darned cool Jeep. Plus very few of them keep loosing value allowing an restricting an excess number of new folks from flooding the forum.

In regards to that post on the other forum. We all see similar questions here on CC, but what makes this place different is that somebody will dig up the link or find a post they found helpful and post it... rather than yelling "SEARCH NEWB!!!!". Typically when searching on a site such as that, you will only find more posts with folks yelling 'search'. Something tells me the OP is pretty clueless and the 'other' poster knew of his brothers passing. None of it was necessary.

I have frequented ROF (Rubicon Owners Forum) since 2003 and still surf the pages and support the forum. In many cases "experts" help new guys by making them think about what they want and exploring different options. Professional fabricators regularly post as does the guy who just bought a Jeep and wants to install a DVD player and amp.

I have only visited Pirate by following links from other forums. Most of the stuff those guys are dealing with is well out my my league.

alright. I'm taking the opposite side.

that was that posters FIRST POST in that subforum, under 24 all told, and he posts that he's too lazy to open the door panel?

uh. yeah...get off the forum or get off your butt. or pay someone else to do the job for you.

I can't believe no one has seen it that way. as a member of cherokeeforum...I actually try not to flame too much. "Peep" had an acceptable first post. the lazy OP had what is probably a lie of a SECOND forum post, and didn't take things for what they were. that was innocent ribbing...it got out of hand because the OP put unnecessary information in, took things offensively that weren't meant to be single-handedly offensive, and decided to have a go (as a NEW MEMBER) with someone who actually knows what they're talking about, at least on the subject.

Guys, you haven't got a clue what goes on over at cherokeeforum...it is Pirate4x4 as far as flaming goes...but on CF, the flaming is because the questions that get asked are actually just stupid questions...Pirate4x4 flaming is based off of lack of knowledge, not lack of effort or even mild intelligence. Cherokeeforum is the jeepsunlimited of the XJ world...it is the leftovers of a sad breakup between friends (the owners of the site), and the one who owns cherokeeforum now got the lower-IQ children in the divorce.

and yes, I'm one of the guys who flames others here on the forum. If you noticed, I did the simplest thing to keep this forum from going downhill as a result of my flaming...I stopped posting responses if it irrated me, or if it's a worthless post of a question that's being asked for the umpteenth time (example....bucket seats, proportioning valve, brake booster upgrade, lift kit opinions).

I suggest that people like me adopt the same mentality...if it's dumb, don't post. some other guy who's not sick of it yet will answer the dumb questions, while the rest of us can enjoy the more personally useful parts of the forum.

p.s.

I am not posting this to incite an argument. if you agree with me, great. if you disagree, great. but no flaming is present in this post, nor should it be directed back.

another thing i appreciate about this site is it seems to be more "family friendly" than many of the other forums i've been on, which is good when my son asks to sit with me like he is now. comanche.gif :wall: :USAflag:  image_209027.gif  :smart: :waving: he just picked those smilies...

Hmm. I guess its a result of our society.

I don't know how or when, but there are a lot of folks (even some in this forum) who have forgotten that at one time they actually didn't know very much, and had to go ask questions, or read, or search. Unfortunately, these folks that have a smattering of intelligence (and I use that word lightly) retained some of that knowledge....just enough to make them 'smarter' then others.

Then, as the mood strikes them, they suddenly feel 'superior' to the folks who don't have the knowledge, and they believe that gives them the right to act like asses.

In reality, it just makes them look like asses.

I am glad that the moderators here use forsight to keep this behavior to a minimum.

just my .02
