  1. If you are looking for a drop out 3rd, stronger than stock, and disc brakes, why not go to the ubiquitous 9"? Parts everywhere, significantly more info online, cheap and proven workhorse...
  2. Nope. I put 5.5 on mine & never changed the drive shafts. When I did SOA on my 89, I didn't change the shaft. Driving down the highway the first time at 60mph hit a gentle riser, rear lifted and the DS dropped out of the transfer case. Blew up my rear axle internals. At that point I had a custom shaft built at a local shop that usually builds shafts for drag racers. Exact length based on my measurements, high angle yoke, massive tube, new u joints, fully balanced, and I was $125 out the door.
  3. Not true at all on the first count. Harness only, stock lights, before and after, Stolen from a thread at JF: Big difference.
  4. Yep. Lived in Denver my whole life, moved to Indy last Aug. Bought the XJ last week out of Denver and am driving it back this weekend. I've got family in Louisville... somewhat similar in KY, but not nearly as bad as Indy.
  5. Keep in mind the 00-01 XJ got the 0331 head that WILL crack. Not a question of if, but when. 97-99 are easily the best years. Be patient, and look in rust-free areas of the country. statewidelist.com is a good resource. I picked up a 98 XJ with 118k miles for $1,900 +$90 for flight and $200 in gas. I could not touch anything local in similar condition for less than DOUBLE that cost.
  6. I bought this one off Craigslist (located out of Boulder) last week... $1,900 and all it needed was a clockspring.
  7. So.... he put on a bad TPS, then tried to get you to buy a trans rebuild after his part was bad? Sounds like you need a new mechanic.
  8. RE 4.5 ZJ coils RE fixed lowers RE adj trackbar JKS Disco's SOA rear custom driveshaft ~32" tires (that was a long time ago, don't remember the exact size)
  9. Seafoam the crankcase and the intake. Replace all plugs/wires/distcap. Oil change. Seafoam in the gas tank (2nd best. Best is to drop and drain the tank, start over).
  10. I've put this up a long time ago. Should answer your question.
  11. That link is pretty much the leaf spring bible over at Pirate. It has been viewed and gone over by thousands and thousands of people, many of whom have verified the info on the sheet. The info there is good.
  12. I am an evil banker. Mortgage servicing. Specialize in investor portfolio management and foreclosure oversight.
  13. All my stuff I either grab at a junkyard or from Certifit. For new parts from Certifit: Fenders: $80 ea Grill: $12 Headlamp doors: $20 Front panel: $40 Side marker lamps: $15 park lights: $20
  14. you say the bushings are shot... as in control arm bushings? There are no bushings on the axle, so its not worth swapping that out. Bushings are CHEAP and easy to do.
  15. http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/cto/2745546447.html So close to awesome, but 2wd and 4 banger.
