If not keyed, is it a press or taper fit? Trying to understand why they would build a 700-800 HP engine without a secure drive for the supercharger and accessories! Its not keyed from the factory, just a press fit and torqued to 243 ft/lbs. Aftermarket performance companies that add power to these add keys in order to avoid this, not sure why the factory didnt do it.
Keyav8r Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 Well, you’ve got the cost of the extra machining operation on the crank, the labor cost to install the key, the cost of carrying the key in inventory, and the actual cost of the key. Probably saved $6 or $7 per car. Of course, if you add in the warranty cost to repair the damage caused by the crank pulley coming loose on a few cars it wipes out any “cost savings” for the whole production run. I assume that warranty costs aren’t included in the calculation of the CEO’s annual bonus for cutting production cost.
dasbulliwagen Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 Our warranty cost on the engine assembly was just over $15,000. That doesn't include the 15 hours of labor, fluids, oil cooler and cooler lines or post repair detail. Yeah, a key would have saved them a bunch.
johnj92131 Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 Spotted a very rare car yesterday driving home on the 52 freeway. A green Lamborghini 350 GT with original mid 60's black California plates. Did not manage a picture, unfortunately. Looked like he was out for a test drive. I followed the car for 6 miles, then he got off the freeway and back on going west. The V-12 was burning some oil on the right bank. But the left bank was running clean. According to Wikipedia, only 120 of these were ever made. A very nice looking two seater that looked good, but not exotic like later Lamborghinis. I actually drove (meaning parked and filled with gas) a Lamborghini 400 GT in 1968 when I was 20 years old in 1968, working in Beverly Hills.
johnj92131 Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 Pete, That is exactly right, down to the exact color!! Suspect the car lives in La Jolla, since the 52 Freeway starts there and ends in my neighborhood. Lots of exotic cars in La Jolla. Maybe it was getting warmed up for the La Jolla Concours in March?
COMJNUT Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Caught this back in October of 2015 driving to work.

yellaheep Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 Earlier I posted a pic of a Plymouth Superbird wearing snow chains..... Stumbled across this odd family pic with a Dodge Daytona...... wearing moose heads....? I have no words.
Pete M Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 yeah, I'm not sure what the contest was, but that pic definitely wins.
drcomanche Posted January 27, 2018 Posted January 27, 2018 Boy, if I'd had known this post existed I would have tried harder to get some pics. Just saw a Maserati Quattroporte and an Audi R8 today... Here's one from a few years ago in Southern MD though. Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera
crumbscomanche Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 I see a lot of crazy cars here in LA but this one made me do a double take - drop top, wood panel, 1st gen porsche cayenne anyone?
fiatslug87 Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 I would buy a Demon but the Fuel Economy and Greenhouse Gas Emmission rating is only a 2 and Smog rating a 1.

cruiser54 Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 365-4xx. Can't remember. 278 cubic inches IIRC. I helped the guy dial in the carbs.
Keyav8r Posted May 7, 2018 Posted May 7, 2018 BMW I8 on I-20/59 downtown Birmingham, AL. First one I’ve seen “in person”.
buxmj Posted May 8, 2018 Posted May 8, 2018 I was going to have you name the musician's car but that would be too easy. I was admiring the Range Rover with all the bells and whistles that I didn't even notice the Maserati until I came back out. I couldn't believe how far he/she stayed away from the parking curb, had the front end sticking out like it was a early 70's Caddy. Buck.
fiatslug87 Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 Another i8 July 29, 9:00 pm, I-680N, San Ramon CA. Tough to take a picture in the dark at 75 mph!
fiatslug87 Posted November 28, 2018 Posted November 28, 2018 Here's a two-fer or is it tow-fer? November 27, 2:00 pm, I-80E, Fairfield CA. Then two miles later there was a black Lamborghini on a roll back! I guess these fancy cars can’t handle the rain!
