I just took my oath to the US Navy yesterday. Shipping on April 27 of 2009 as of right now. I am going in for Sonar Tech until I pass a test for mechanics, and then still I am trying to pass a physical test for EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal)

Good for you jamminz.gif

I did 6 years combined in the Army / Army National Guard. I have always said that every young man should have to at least go through Basic Training. It does wonders for attitude and moving in to adult-hood.

While I would have died (or been killed) within 20 minutes of being in the Military, I come from a military family and salute those that serve their country...

Good luck to you young man... (man that makes me sound like the oldest 34 year old on the face of the planet)

You picked the best shipmate. Sonarman is a good rate. Retired USN, subs then tin cans, Vietnam vet, Desert Storm as a DoD civilian, Telecommunications. Where you heading for boot? Great Lakes? Enjoy and make the best of it.

Two daughters attending college under ROTC scholarships. Daughter #1 Army nursing, #2 USAF engineering. Covering all the bases. :D

After spending 6 years as an infantry/cavalry medic, I've switched to being an Eye Specialist. I'm prepping for a deployment next summer to Iraq (My third). Grats on your choice to serve the country, even if it is with the Navy!

24+ but fixing to retire. I am a Sonar Tech believe it or not, however it's not as fun as it was when the Russians were still playing. You'll get some good schools, but I'd look into the SeaBees as someone else mentioned earlier. If I had to do it over that's what I would have done. They get great training. Most of it out at Port Huneme, CA.

Good luck to you and thank you for your service.
