I'm guessing, but it looks like it goes between the bearing cap and the oil pan. Then the strap goes outside of the pan. But again, I'm just guessing. The gasket is sandwiched between the #7 main bearing cap and the oil pan(there's a little groove in the bearing cap for the gasket to sit in) and the ring goes on top of the oil pan after it's been installed using the very rearmost pair of bolts. It's the brighter strip of metal by the tip of the arrow.

Yes. The strap puts pressure on the rounded part of the gasket at the very rear. No idea what exactly the rubber does, but I've heard of a couple people who say it's fixed a slight RMS area leak. Possibly it squeezes the gasket a little bit more? :dunno:

That's a good upgrade for sure. Bought it from you, in fact :) Sent from my LG-D850 using Tapatalk

One more tip while we're at it: We're used to everything being Metric on our trucks, and a lot of times you'll see people in writeups or otherwise (looking at you, Bleepin Jeep) tell you that they're 11mm and 13mm. That's wrong. They're 7/16" and 1/2". Oh yeah, and that half circle shaped piece at the rear is really important. Torque Specs: 7/16" bolts: 7 ft-lb 1/2" bolts: 11 ft-lb Don't crank them down, ESPECIALLY the ones on the timing cover. The timing cover is aluminum and the threads can and will chowder out very easily. 7 ft-lbs isn't very much at all.

Yes, definitely grab it.

Vent. You need it.

It's a special fluid for the Quadra-Trac system, not an exact copy of anything used commonly anymore. If I were to guess it's probably a thin oil with friction modifiers like in limited slip diff lube if my understanding of how Quadra-Trac works is correct.

WJ lower control arm question(s)
Minuit replied to Strokermjcomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Unsurprisingly mine looks just like Don's. On one side I was able to get it to line up by jacking, and on one side I used the bottle jack to push the axle forward. That doesn't look like it would help you though. Might be due to the perspective but Don's control arm mounts look like they point "downhill" and yours look like they point "uphill". Of course, you don't have to worry about pinion angle on a 2WD but that's the main difference I see. -
Here's the diagram for the 3-spoke wheel from the FSM.

A lot of base model MJs came with 195/75/15 tires. Looks really silly, but I imagine it made the truck feel quite a bit peppier than the usual tires we run these days.

If his signature is correct, it's an 88. The fusebox should be an exact match.

As long as it's as nice as the ad is leading on, I'd say it's a good buy. It's not a screaming good deal but the value of these trucks, especially late model unmolested ones, are on the rise. 1992 models are the very best of the breed, and the rarest year by far. Even more rare if it was built in the 1992 calendar year. This one seems practically untouched. The rear bumper is even straight! Other than making sure it sounds good and drives good, the main thing to check would be rust floor pans. Expect there to be some minor rust, but for $4000 the metal better still be there. One thing I've noticed is that floor rust is generally less of a problem on automatic trucks, but it happens to some extent to every truck. Make sure to check the cab corners and rockers, of course. You might want to bring a weak magnet to check for body filler too.

. The Original OEM. Side . Pioneer Decals
Minuit replied to gai092460's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
My opinion is that if you want to customize it and take decals off or really modify it in any significant way, this is the worst possible truck to do it to. With that said, it's your truck, not ours and you're free to do whatever you want. :) I lean towards purism, especially in this case. Most people probably don't feel as strongly. I think altering that truck in any way except possibly fixing some of the Renix-isms for reliability's sake would be sacrilege. -
Thanks fellas

I'm finishing up with retrofitting factory fog lights onto the '91, but I forgot where the fog light relay is supposed to attach. I know it's somewhere in the front left corner of the engine bay, but I can't remember exactly where it goes. There's several spots where it looks like it might belong. The place that makes the most sense to me is the very left side of the core support, but that's just a guess. Anyone have a pic?

4x6. There should be brackets back there where the speaker goes, but lots of trucks didn't come with them.

Listed under "Commanche" on eBay. Silver J E E P decals for your tailgate. Another good reason to always include the common misspellings in your searches :) http://www.ebay.com/itm/152362775223?ul_noapp=true

Yes, every truck had the holes cut in the floor (and most have the holes in the firewall for both kinds of automatic shift cables) for every shifter option.

If you're still needing one by tomorrow I'm going to a junkyard that has 2 MJs. I could get the harness.

From what I've gathered, it originally had a 2.8 but now has a 3.4.

I see those wheels a lot around here and I really don't think they would work on an old school MJ. Just my opinion. Sent from my LG-D850 using Tapatalk

The body roll in turns must be out of this world.
