Engine shutdown? Electrical?
87MJTIM replied to Wounded_Fighter's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Similar issue for me years ago, turned out the CPS went bad. I recommend testing it before changing it. -
Plain and simple, broil it. Slice them up, brush melted butter on them, and seasoning (salt, pepper, old bay, etc etc...My mom put on garlic powder and Parmesan cheese). Broil for 9 minutes each side.

Search on ebay for comparable boat anchors.

Drip rails Interior trim: backside of cab carpet board, top panel, head liner. B pillars and light. seat brackets (looks like a bench seat) Parking brake pedal If you can get under it, the fuel sending unit/pump. To name a few.

I have the REM set to display the engine temp the the ECU receives (not the gauge temp sensor or the aux. fan temp switch). While sitting in line at a drive-thru, I watch the temp rise up to 219* before the aux fan turns on (AC not running). The fan will run until the temp drops to ~204*. So I know the fan and switch are working.

Do you have an exhaust fan in the kitchen? l had a smell coming from a half bath vent. I had birds nesting in it at one time. Thought maybe one had died in there. I got a vent brush to clean it out. Using a fish-tape, fed in from the outside to pull the brush outside. To my surprise, I pulled out a 2’ rat snake. I called to my wife “Hey, come look at this...” It’s been a few years but she’s speaking to me again.

Well. today I called Safety Restore located in MA and initiated a work order. Cost is $83 US, including return shipping (I pay to get it there). I will follow up when the work is done. The other company I found on-line was Seatbeltplanet.com located in OK. I called but did not hear back before I called the above. Wish me luck.

JEEP - that is the one in MA. I have not back from them. I have found two others - FL and CA. One has replied back - No. If I find one that can repair it, I will post it up.

A few weeks ago, my driver's seat belt stopped retracting. This weekend I removed the whole system to look at it. I didn't take the retractor apart - yet. I manually rewound the gear some to pull back the slack. Now it will not move out or in - like the old-style shoulder belts. I searched on www for companies that repair seat belts. Only two came up. One is in Mass. The other is in GA. I sent messages to both. I heard back from the one in GA. They do not repair seat belts this old. I have not heard from the one MA. Has anyone had their seat belts repaired - any make/models? Would you recommend that company? If so, do you have the name, phone # and email address? Thanks

89 2.5L cranks but no start

And compression! -
What do you have currently? '88 auto, but what else? Engine, modifications/changes? Complete your signature profile. What do you want to do with it? DD, offroad, etc. A good source for parts is a comparable XJ with an AX15, 4wd. It will come with all the parts you need to swap from auto to manual. Also, many of the parts from the front seats forward will fit on the MJ. (I said "many", not all.)

That's what we call a "rounding difference."

Would I be an idiot if I? AW4-BA10/5
87MJTIM replied to Knucklehead97's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
My BA10 never left me stranded. I had approx 270k miles on it when I swapped. It was starting to whine in 1st gear and higher RPMs - starting our or low speed driving. The internal slave cyl was the primary reason I swapped to an AX15 w/ an external slave. -

AX-15 Mounting plate/trans mount for crossmember
87MJTIM replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The crossmember and mount are the same for both MJ and XJs. -
I have read on CC and other Jeep forums that the 96 engine and wiring is not the most desirable. It was the first year of OBD2 engine controls. However, Chrysler was sill using the older OBD1 wiring and sensors. It was a hybrid of the old and new. There are several threads on CC about this. I read a lot of internet info when I did my 4.0 swap in a CJ7. I already had a 93 4.0 engine and wiring. Many of the thread said to get either 91-95 engines/wiring or 97+ engines/wiring. (I read this on the internet, so it must be true.)

Yeah. Next thing you know, Jeep will put a truck bed on a 4 door Wrangler.

Fix the pink wire to that connector. Attach the connector to the brake switch on the brake pedal. Match pink to pink. As for testing your cruise control, there is a device that test the wiring and vacuum unit, AM PC-1-R. However, the 88 Electric Manual has steps you can perform that will test the wiring with a DVOM. Download the 88 Manual in the DIY section on CC and perform those tests. My experience, though, is it is the yellow controller box that has gone bad. You will need to search for a replacement, since you cannot purchase new.

Probably can’t go under too many overpasses

My college student daughter has a classmate from CT. That girl said it may take 11 days to get power back on. That was Wednesday.

Crossmember and transmission mount are separate pieces. The bell housing will depend on the year of the transmission. Pre-94 AX15s will have internal slave cyl. That’s the same as your BA10. The input shaft tip will be the same. No need to change clutch kits or pilot bushing. If the transmission is a 94+ these will be external slave cyl. Input shaft tips will be larger. As I suggested change the pressure plate and pilot bushing. You can purchase an all-in-one master/slave hydraulic clutch system if you gat an external slave bell housing.

Be sure to ask about all the other parts you will need

Nickintimedesign sells a Renix scanner. It just shows the readings the ECU gets. There are no DTCs or controls. it will assist you with diagnosing problems

It used to intimidate me. I just took it one step at a time. YouTube has become my “goto” repair manual. If you have question or want to do something, search YouTube. Find several videos on what you want to do and watch them all. One may/will do things differently than another. One may give more details than the other. also, CC has a great knowledge base. Ask and you will get answers.

That would be the proper bell housing for the external slave cyl transmission. No, you can’t run a 4wd transmission without a transfer case. You can run a transfer case without the front axle.
