  1. So off come the decals and out comes the buffer :rotfl2: "It's no big deal"
  2. Dave, You DESERVE that Comanche. Very nice find! I know you will put it to good use!
  3. I'm planning on being in Mesick for the Blessing this year. You gonna be there Roger?
  4. A Cherokee with the cab thrown on the back is a Cheromanche. The difference between them is if it still has the "frame" under the bed, then it's still pretty much a Comanche. You are modifying a Comanche slighty, but it's still a truck. Almost every single piece of the truck is still there. You still register it as a Comanche............ Yep, that was just my opinion, thats all it was. I'll be watching to see how you end up doing things. Best of luck.
  5. Newer HO head? Does your coolant hookup on the front of the engine have the sensor in it there?
  6. As much as I like the idea and looks of them. Neither of mine will get cut up to modify the Cab/Interior Space. That being said. My thoughts: It seems to me that you could use an XJ roof when you do this to the MJ and it would make things much much easier. If you could find a two door XJ somewhere and buy it to sacrifice for this project you would get your doors, seats, roof with the correct "Door Jamb" spacing and many other usable parts. However, If I am not mistaken, the heights and slopes of an XJ roof and MJ roof are different. The MJ one has more of a slope to it if I remember correctly. So you would either have to trim down the top of the back of the cab to make the XJ one work or come across some other means of resolving this problem. Next thing is that when I cut the truck in half at the floor boards, I would make the LONGEST cut possible, Diagonal, Zig Zag, whatever. This allows you to (spend more time welding it back up) but also have a stronger joint at that part of the "chassis" than one that just goes straight across. Lastly, I think that I would cut out the frame rails from under the vehicle say a foot in each direction of the cut. Then I would weld in a new single piece to fill that distance of the "new" gap that is left. As far as the bed goes, I think you will have to end up bobbing the front AND rear of it to accomplish what you want to do, also the frame will need to be shortened somehow if you do things as I described above. Why not just buy an MJ bed from a yard somewhere and hack up an XJ? Seems easier. I hate to say it, but once you hack the MJ up, it loses its "MJ ness" in my mind and becomes a "Cheromanche" :dunce:
  7. Me personally... I like it before as well. When you change to the lighter colors, especially with paint, the chances of it showing nicks and scrapes are much greater in my opinion. Also it might prove to be harder to keep clean if you get mud on it and all. But - Remember this is your Jeep - Not ours. Your word is the final one Chief and whatever you want, you should have  Keep up the good work!
  8. Didn't test it then. I never thought to...
  9. It sure does hold pressure  :wall:  :fs1: I havent checked for how long but it holds it for a LONG time. The thing that gets me is that it only started doing this when I went under it and soldered up the P.O.'s connection of the three wires to the fuel pump (they were connected with Butt connectors and were starting to corrode, I don't know where the all weather connector went :dunno: ) Anyway, before I did this it never had problems starting. I would leave it sit in the woods for MONTHs on end and it still fired right up after a few seconds. Since I've had the problem I've been forced to replace a few things and it runs much better than it ever has, once it starts up. Somewhere along the line the cough and sputter problem for a few seconds after starting that I got after I soldered the wires has disappeared (My guess is that it was the cleaning of the dist/throttle body). So now when we can get it to start it will roll right over and take off just like my '88. But the problem now is that too much fuel is in the rail for it to run properly and I just am running to my wits end trying to figure it out... I'll see what Dad thinks about the Oxy sensor... Thing is that quality Sensors aren't cheap and I've replaced a few of them now that has done nothing for the problem. :wall: Thanks for your thoughts guys! Please Keep 'em coming!
  10. I did swap the one in from my '88 and it didnt resolve anything. I did that last year when I first started having the problem...
  11. Well, I swapped the fuel rails and it didn't resolve anything. So I left it at that and replaced my front wheel bearings so I could at least say I got something accomplished on it while I was home on Spring Break. Now at least I can drive it without listening to the humm of the bad ones I had. I left it at home for my Dad to see what he could come up with to get it to work. He is as puzzled as I am about what the problem is now. I am thinking that there is a blockage in the return fuel line somewhere that is not allowing the fuel to return to the tank - how likely is this? Dad seems to think that my problem still lies in a sensor somewhere. So far I've replaced the CPS and the CTS on the truck. While I was replacing the CTS I noticed that the knock sensor was fubared up - I don't exactly have lots of cash to throw at it right now, figured I would replace it later. Could that have anything to do with this? What other sensors control the amounts of fuel sent to the engine? Dad got ahold of me today (we are 8 hours away right now - me at college again and he is at home) and let me know his findings so far. He has put a pressure gauge on the fuel rail and he gets these readings: running 32 psi, after it's shut off 40 psi. He has to shut the truck off and then look at the gauge so it takes him a second or two to shut it off and then check the gauge under the hood. Are these numbers in the ball park range? I can't imagine that the fuel pump is weak because ALL of the spark plugs are BLACK when you pull them to check them and I've got all kinds of black wetness/stuff shooting out of the tailpipe. Both of those signs tell me that there is TOO MUCH fuel getting sent to the engine, but aren't RENIX fuel pumps supposed to supply around 45 psi? Anyone out there have any more thoughts?
  12. Your Dogs look like they are a blast to have around. Nice job on the project so far! :clapping:
  13. Yah - I saw that too. If only the junkyard trucks were that nice up here in MI!!!!!
  14. Did you get the spare door thats in the bed too?
  15. You are lazy Correy. You have two of them in your driveway and I'll be darned if you don't have a tape measure :clapping:
  16. Now THAT MJ is worth its asking price of $8,000
  17. You're not the first. I've got this on my white one too. :dunno: I can't imagine why this happens. How hard do people slam their doors :???:
  18. Pat's gonna be ticked at you for pullin his chain Roger
  19. I've never had lug nuts come off of the front. The Drivers rear however... I've been in three Jeeps when they came loose on that particular wheel (Must be something with how the torque is applied to it). Every time though - the wheel stayed on the brake drum enough for the Jeep to safely stop on the side of the road. Now I use a torque wrench.
  20. Yah - Like I say - who knows where we sit on this one. My best guess is that the previous owner ran across a 1986 MJ in a yard somewhere and took his 1988-1992 :hmm: MJ and added some badges and tail-lights to it. :peek: Can you verify that it is a 1987 model year by checking your title and vehicle for the same VIN #? A few years ago my Dad bought a 1948 Willys Pickup - Thats what the title said. Later looking into things left us with the wrong VIN for the Title of the vehicle we had in our Driveway. Found out it was a 1955 and let the Cops in on our findings. Somewhere along the lines the titles got switched up... We ended up getting it all legal finally by applying for a lost title and having the previous owner verify things...
  21. Its most likely been repainted by the looks of things - OR the previous owner just had fun with the emblems. An '86 OR '87 MJ would have come with the Comanche Decals like I have on mine. Like these: Other things: I have never really seen the "4x4" emblems near the rear tailights like that. I thought that they were located from the factory under the cab vents - so thats where I put them on my truck :dunno: The Chromed out tailights are a sign of the truck being an '86 :dunno: I've never seen them on any other model year...? The 8 slot grille is from a post 1987 model year XJ/MJ, '84-'87 XJ/MJ models had a 10 slot... Looks like an MJ with an identity crisis :clapping: I only know all of this stuff cause I've always liked the looks of the '86-'87 MJ's over the other ones. So I made my '88 to look like an '87 SWB :dunce:
  22. Oh Snap! Pat - Which part numbers did you end up getting?
