  1. :shake:
  2. Ask him how much he put into the engine rebuild. Take that number and multiply by 175-200% :dunno: - its hard to tell with no pics :hmm:
  3. I know the thing you are talking about here. I tried to put it back on mine when I did my driveshafts and I just ended up wrecking it in the process. So I bought a new greaseable Centering yoke and left the dust boot off. I think the whole dust boot thing is for people who don't maintain their driveshafts. I see no problems with mine so far and both front and rear are this way with no boot (I've got SYE). You just need to keep grease in them on a periodic basis (I do mine every oil change).
  4. Welcome. Looks like a nice one.
  5. I got the tank at RockAuto.com - ran me around $130
  6. Hey Ya'll! It's Been Awhile. My last semester is wrapping up here at college and I am in the process of getting things lined up for my new job in Madison, WI working with Wisconsin & Southern Railroad. I'll be graduating in May and then moving in down in Madtown, work will start for me in June. So I'll be officially joining that ruthless bunch of Comanche owners in Wisconsin - "The land of the cheap MJ". I've been kinda forced to do a few things on the truck though. I am in the process of replacing my gas tank right now (I had a leak develop over the winter) and I just put disconnect swaybar links onto it. Senior classes and trips are filling up my weekends. I've got no time to wheel now, but all kinds of time to work on the truck during the week  Anyway - here are some pics. The gas tank project will be finished in the next couple of days. Its getting painted right now and will be put in soon. I'll need the truck operational again quick, this weekend I am driving down to Madison to pick out an apartment!
  7. JP Magazine JUST did a write up on how to setup a CB system in their "Randy's Electrical Corner" article...
  8. :D I've had it out before, most recently when I repainted the truck. When I took it out I sandblasted the straps and bolts/studs down before I repainted them. Everything came off nice and easy this time. :D I hear ya though Pat. If I would have had problems with it this time around I would have looked for a different method of fastening it. I think I will leave the plastic shield off of the bottom of the tank when I put it all back together. I see no need to have it there. I'll deal with the stone nicks on the tank, the rest of the bottom of the truck needs constant paint monitoring in this regard anyway. As far as making a skid plate, I see no need for one. I've never had an issue with hitting the tank on things when I'm out in the brush...
  9. I bought a new gas tank and I'm going to be swapping it in next week. The old tank is out, it had a very small hole in it. When I took it out, I had to take off the plastic shield on the bottom of the tank before I could take the straps off. What is this shield thing for, surely it can't be a type of skid plate cause it is just plastic. Is it just there to keep stones from nicking the bottom of the tank and chipping the paint? I'm thinking of leaving it off cause it had alot of dirt in it. Thoughts? :dunno: Also, when I put the straps back on, I am thinking of putting strips of rubber between the tank and the straps to keep them from rubbing on each other? :dunno: That new tank wasnt cheap, I want to keep it in good shape.
  10. K - Good, for a sec there I thought I was off my rocker...
  11. I thought that you wanted your pinion angle to be a hair lower than what you would actually run as so that when you accelerate the angle would then come up? :hmm:
  12. This is gonna be fun to watch
  13. I thought it was too. I have a YJ Ax-15 in the shed, but unfortunatly no XJ/MJ ones. I do have an XJ 231 though. As for the weight of the T-case, it weights damn near as much as an Ax-15 without the bellhousing on it. A 242 will weight a little more than the 231. Yes, you both are right. Now that I think about it, the trans does determine the clocking. As far as pulling a case, six studs hold it all onto the transmission. Of course, the top two are the hardest ones to get to....
  14. ...Hack 'N' Tap SYE... http://advanceadapters.com/product/2464/(P/N-50-7906)-NP231-Slip-Yoke-Eliminator-Kit-(1310-cv-yoke).html
  15. As far as getting a cheap 231 from someone, look on craigslist or post a wanted ad on your local 4x4 boards. Jeepers usually have 231's lying around their garages. No person should have to pay more than $150 for a 231. At least this has been my experience here in the Northern M/W.
  16. Why would you WANT a 242? 231 cases have a MUCH better aftermarket for them and parts are cheap for them. Also, Slip Yoke Eliminator kits are NOT available for a 242. The 231 case is VERY easy to disassemble and reassemble. Don't let yourself get intimidated by it. The trickiest thing is to get the front output yoke off. A Large Pipe wrench, a friend, a breaker bar and (I think) 1 1/8" socket will do that for ya. After that you'll need a few sockets, a small and large flathead screwdriver, and a set of snap ring pliers - thats about it. Just take your time and slowly disassemble everything. There really is only one way you can put it all back together so as long as you test it out by shifting it and turning the inputs before you put it back in the Jeep and things work, you put it back together correctly. If you need parts, let me know. I DO have a parts case that has been kinda picked over, but its still mostly there. I could also pretty much walk you through taking it apart and putting it back together if you need me to. Its just alot of typing... :typing: Also, I am running a "frankenstein" 231 in my truck right now, It's got parts from a YJ,XJ AND MJ on it. As long as you match things up correctly, basically anything will work. The most notable difference between YJ and XJ/MJ cases is the clocking of the case in relation to the transmission. YJ cases are clocked at about 9:00 and XJ/MJ cases are clocked at around 7:30/8:00. If you run the front portion of the YJ case like me (and IIRC Pete), you will need to modify your floorboards to allow the case to tuck up closer to the bottom of the truck...
  17. Looks Good! I think that after this next summer, my white '90 MJ will be driving around town in the "sanded primer" look too. It'll be time for paint soon thereafter.
  18. As long as the ends match up and its long enough, you should be golden whichever way you go...
  19. Aww - Cmon. I might not be the next Steven Hawkins, but I do know a few things... :dunce:
  20. Looks GREAT!
  21. Looks like a fun place to be this time of year! I've still got rock hard snow up here.
  22. This one doesnt qualify as a completed project just yet, but its going to be someday soon, I hope... :wall: :ack: It's going to remain 2wd too. I've got no need for 2 4wd MJ's
  23. If you really need to know right now, PM me and I'll pull mine to find out for ya
  24. Got any magnets Mr. "The Joker"? :clapping:
