Aside from the hood, does it have any remnants of being Colorado red anywhere?

Location of VIN numbers
eaglescout526 replied to Phillip Gwin's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have seen a VIN plate on the crossmember under the radiator (or by) in an 89 4.0L 2 door XJ. -
NOS A/C dealer kit
eaglescout526 replied to Pete M's topic in Craigslist/Marketplace/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
Those brackets probably will fit an 86. Course the pert number doesn't exist anymore so I can't see the years but in 87 AMC went to the more solid bracket set up for AC. -
NOS A/C dealer kit
eaglescout526 replied to Pete M's topic in Craigslist/Marketplace/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
I think and judging by the early accessory part number, this would fit either the 2.5L carb engine or a 2.8L. Theres still a couple NOS AC kits at dealers but they are still very much expensive. -

Fifty dolla bill, fifty dolla bill, fifty dolla bill!
-
Lol. That gives me the further encouragement to do the same to my NOS XJ set for when i go to throw them on Chunk.

Are those the new style fronts with the AMC logo on them?

What Pete said. Modern VINs I can look up and I can see VIN specific stuff but the older stuff just has what the older parts catalogs show in terms of all parts. We would need a factory sheet to see. I don't think it was until sometime in the 90's where Chrysler started having VIN specific stuff to their catalog as a thing.

Stock height (or close to) leaf springs.
eaglescout526 replied to Psveritas's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
General springs makes new factory height standard and metric ton leafs. -
I want to believe.

Huh was just about to go look at my VIN and see whats different and whats the same but Pete beat me to it. Well there you have it, the version that I have is probably out of date. I wonder when Chrysler updates these lists. Maybe every 10 years?
-
Indeed you have Pete. Ive got lots more irrelevant PDFs I can share from starparts. Actually in my sig is the same exact sales code link.
-
Ok that makes much more sense.
-
Wow! I'm surprised this popped up in the general search. I thought only dealer guys could access that through starparts and I'm wrong.
-
What? The temp sender is at the rear of the head top side. There's two styles a sender and a sensor. Sensor is for the gauge which you need and it uses the same plug as the sender did. Should be a really easy swap to do but youll lose coolant. Did you buy the coolant temp sensor for the ECU that goes into the side of the manifold?

Engine compression question
eaglescout526 replied to ruralandalone's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I can break out my 2.5L engine rebuild book that can help decipher the date code on the block. Otherwise as far as these engines go and being made out of cast iron, some of them including my 84 XJ are going strong and well above 300k without a rebuild and 4.0's are doing the same. AMC made some really well built and stout engines that will keep going when properly maintained for years and miles. -
Engine compression question
eaglescout526 replied to ruralandalone's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
120 is healthy for the 2.5L . Do you suspect something is wrong with your engine? -
Always saddens me to see how people treat the top of the line Jeeps.

Oh yeah it will be, Just Dr. Cruise gives your system prognosis as a "special case". -

Lol. Yet we still can't quite get yours to work as it should despite every dang test I can think of.
