  1. Can you shoot me a picture of that connector?
  2. From what I’ve found sometimes it’s easier to identify the plug is you determine who manufactured the component that it plugs into. I’ve ID’d several Japan spec connectors now using that method. That 6 pin connector is an interesting one. I’ve gone through all the US spec connectors trying to ID it. Going to have to search through foreign spec connectors. Once Chrysler fully took over, they really standardized the connections. Noticed that on all the 97+ XJ/TJ models
  3. The Explorer 8.8 is just too narrow for an MJ. Even the stock axle width was on the narrow side. Aside from that, it’s a c clip axle, has an excessively large housing and pumpkin shape that tends to shovel into obstacles, relatively small brakes and adds considerable unsprung weight. For 30” or 31” tires you can stick with the D35. You’ll have equivalent pumpkin clearance to an 8.8 on at least true 33’s.
  4. Go with 3.55’s or so for 31’s. Though, on another note, I’m no fan of the Explorer 8.8 for an MJ.
  5. I also second hooking it up to purge the canister. The fuel fumes in a garage are what bothered me most when I tried deleting the one from my YJ.
  6. Thanks for that info! I’ll try to pull the manufacturer & model numbers for those tail light harness connections. I’d really like to compile a picture thread of some sort. Perhaps some way of having descriptions and pictures of each connector. I think I probably bagged and tagged around 50-60 connectors from my 1990 harness.
  7. Interesting, you mind if I cross post this info into the thread I’m compiling on all the different connectors? BTW, I went with a painless chassis harness. Had to re work a few of the circuits but much of it was plug and play. Routing and trimming wiring took up the majority of the time as it’s a universal harness.
  8. Why?? You’ve already confirmed there is nothing wrong with your alignment
  9. From what I’ve gathered, the 10” brakes were both on the D35 and D44 up to 89. My 88 D35 (non c clip) had the 10” brakes. My 1991 D35 had the 9” brakes. My 1990 MJ had the 9” brakes. My 1997 TJ D44 has the 9” brakes and there is not even a 10” drum in any parts manual I’ve seen for the TJ. I was under the impression that the brakes on the XJ/MJ/YJ/TJ 44 were always larger than the D35 of the same year but this doesn’t seem to be the case.
  10. Check the caster angle
  11. Grab an angle finder or your phone and check the caster. Ideally park someplace level and put the angle finder (or flat side of your phone with angle finder app) on the upper ball joint flat and perpendicular to the axle.
  12. I’d grab an angle finder and double check. Are you having any weird driving issues like the wheel not returning to center?
  13. I have to ask, where are you measuring your caster angle at?
  14. Also make sure no one nearby hands you a lit roman candle or cigarette while you’re under there
  15. Hammer and flat head screw driver. It will probably be caked on there. Clean up around the ring first so dirt or debris doesn’t get down in the tank.
  16. What year did the XJ 44 come out of?
  17. Been a few months back since I spoke with someone at Deaver. AFAIK they were still making the jeepspeed springs. If it doesn’t work out though, checkout Alcan. They’ve been on their game recently it seems.
  18. Key parts is the one to get still. C2c copied the key parts XJ floor pan which is what we all had to use previously but now they have the MJ specific pan. Brushable seam sealer is what the factory used around the floor pan joints.
  19. The switch to the floating caliper and pad “wings” came in 1990 on 4wd (maybe also 2wd???)
  20. No need to baby it. If it takes massive amounts of torque to remove then maybe split it. But an impact and some pb blaster will probably zip that right off.
  21. Don’t they make hvac duct tape in that thickness?
  22. Are the nuts seized on or something? I just sprayed some blaster on it and waited a day. Came right off with zero issues. I added a touch of copper based antisieze to all the bolts under the truck when reassembling any suspension parts.
  23. Have you recently done a gear swap or changed bearings?
