Are all year cabs the same?
mnkyboy replied to moparcyco's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You could swap cabs but it would be a major project. -

They are just cheap steel 15x8 wagon wheels that I stripped and painted.- 798 replies

How Bad Really is the BA10?
mnkyboy replied to joester1908's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I had a neighbor that went through a 4.0l and a D44, the original BA10 just keeps on going. -
How Bad Really is the BA10?

I wouldn't go out of my way to swap out a good working one, but if it ever went out I wouldn't put another one in. -
I love my old scout II but it is lacking in the axle dept, ive got a drum brake LP D30 and a D44 hooked to a V8 and a 4spd. Luckily I don't plan to wheel it so it's fine with wimpy axles, I would like to upgrade the front to a D44 someday but for the disc brakes more then a strength upgrade.

Bending Dana 30 back to correct position
mnkyboy replied to Jacob Ochs's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've seen people straighten out D30s then put in an internal sleeve kit,its a cheap option that seems to work ok. Beyond that I would just build a different housing. -
A slightly shorter spring over?
mnkyboy replied to Rockfrog's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have a buddy who just did Explorer leafs on an soa MJ, he reported a gain of about 1.25" over stock MJ leafs.Exactly what I was hoping to hear ... Which sets the stage for the eventual gear swap from the XJ to MJ down the road. THANKS Keep in mind thats 1.25" over soa with a stock spring, you would need around 7" up front to sit level. -

I believe he said the leafs are a little thicker. My brother has been considering trying a set on his MJ,he is hoping they live a little longer then the stock springs. -

At what RPM are these figures? From the charts ive seen the 318 is going to peak its torque curve before the 4.0l is really doing anything.

after the paint project is lift?
mnkyboy replied to redwolf624's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That is the set up in the pic, its all currently coming off for a custom 3 link. The RC parts on the truck have worked well on that particular build. -

There are not many lift brands that I haven't messed with or driven on. I've driven RE long and short arm rigs and neither really perform any better then the equivalent lift from another company. Currently I have about 8 Jeeps sitting at the shop with varying suspension set ups,4 of them are MJs and different Jeeps are coming through all the time. -

Here is RC short arms and coils, if your head and shoulders ahead of this your flex must be amazing. -

The Behemoth is now mocked up on the 231, hopefully I can get some time and put it on the back of the AX15 so I can see how its all going to sit. I am already expecting to rework the floor a bit.- 798 replies

2.8l V6 yes,4.0l I6 no.

I don't think its gonna suprise anyone without some work. 4.0l HO with an auto in a full size truck with 3.08 gears would be a dog.

Rattle Can paint Jobs
mnkyboy replied to Hillcountrymac's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I did many rattle can jobs when I was a teenager, some looked ok but never really held up very well long term. If you have an aircompressor you can get a cheap paint gun and have a better more durable paint job for less then a case of spray paint. equipment paints are extremely cheap and are better then most spray paints, for a little more you could even get into a inexpensive single stage automotive paint. -
All that comes to mind is, anemic.

5" soa and 33s with minimal trimming and stock flares. 6.5" soa on 33s with lots of trimming and cutout flares in the front.

I linked 203 hardener which is for synthetic or alkyd,200 hardener is for acrylics. Ive used both hardeners in Rustoleum and both have worked though.
-
Here is a decent and inexpensive one that I've had good luck with, most paint shops carry it. http://www.advantagerefinishproducts.com/hardeners/203-synthetic-enamel-hi-gloss-hardener

It brightens the color a bit adds some shine and makes the finish more durable. Makes it look like a more expensive automotive enamel.
