Mnkyboys 89 Comanche project
mnkyboy replied to mnkyboy's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
It will take 5.38s which is whats going in the front axle, lockers and such from what Ive seen really aren't that much more. Once you figure that the D60 will need a shaft upgrade and the Sterling won't need one cost really doesnt matter. The price of D60 35 splines will easily make up any difference in parts cost.- 798 replies

Mnkyboys 89 Comanche project
mnkyboy replied to mnkyboy's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
Been super busy, I changed day jobs and am currently moving so nothing has been happening with the MJ. Hopefully things will calm down for me soon and I will be able to work on it again, its driving me crazy having it just sitting. I did change my build a little. I'm pretty sure that ive decided to use a Sterling 10.25 rather then my D60,the Sterling is going to be significantly stronger then the D60 with similar ground clearence.- 798 replies

I really like my Dakota seats but it took some work to get them in there.
-
I seem to remember someone on here having Ranger seats in thier MJ.

A bunch of us from CC got together a few years back at a Jeep show in Portland, it was a good time. There's a few other Washington MJ owners I have found on the Facebook MJ/XJ groups too, just need to get my rig going again. As I type this we are loading my brothers MJ for a trip tomorrow and mine is just sitting there.

Nice, another Washington MJ.

94 YJ 4 banger in a 89 MJ
mnkyboy replied to foreman1063's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I started the swap but then I found a 91 MJ in the wrecking yard to steal the harness out of. There is some info in my build thread that might be helpful. -
Mine are just C channel welded over the rockers, I plan to add some bracing but haven't got around to it. Even without the bracing they have held up great.
-
I wonder what the difference is? From what I've found they are all listed as 3.93; 2.33; 1.44; 1.00; 0.85; 4.74 (Reverse) reguardless of year. I have noticed that some sources say 3.92 for 1st and some say 3.93 otherwise they are identical.
-
As far as I know, the ratios for gears 1 thru 4 are identical. The only difference is that the 5-speed has 5 speeds. I would just swap the bellhousings and use the 4WD setup. Eagle is correct, the gearing difference is in the axles.

86 2.8l ax5 to 95 3.4l / 94+ ax15
mnkyboy replied to Kano808's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
From what i found the only Comaro to use the same spline as the AX15 was the 4spd ones, all others from what I could tell used a different spline count. I tried crossing to all sorts of different vehicles and the disc only seemed to cross to 4 cyl 4spd Comaro and IIRC some Jeep Commandos. AX5 is 14 spline and most Comaro 5spds are 14 or 26 spline, Jeep AX15 is 10 spline. IIRC the Dakota AX15 is also 14 spline, this is why you can't just use the Dakota disc. -

There is a couple other applications for the clutch disc but they are all pretty much obsolete. Advanced adapters sells a disc for the swap. http://www.advanceadapters.com/products/383824--centerforce-9-18-inch-diameter1-18-10-spline-clutch-disc/ -
It's glued in like the windshield, I use a long razor knife made for cutting out windshieds and carefully cut the adhesive.

Mnkyboys 89 Comanche project
mnkyboy replied to mnkyboy's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
Since my last post I have been swamped, I left my day job to help keep up with all the work coming in at the shop. I have been working long hours and today is the first time I have had time to touch the Jeep. I finally got the MJ out of my garage and moved to my shop, hopefully I will be able to get some work done on it.- 798 replies

You can usually find Dan on the comanche pages on Facebook if you want more details on his build.

Sure, I will see if I can take some pics tomorrow. It's pretty much just a basic SOA set up. It's in this guy here.

It was easier for me to use the MPI speedo since its plug and play with the MPI harness. however if you want to use your old speedometer you need a pass through speed sensor so you can have the speed sensor signal for the computer but still have provisions for the cable operated speedometer. There is a bit of info on the swap in my build thread.

That will be a beefy upgrade. My brother runs a 14 bolt in his MJ with 5.13s, Detroit locker, and disc brakes.

I usually get $200-$250 out of a good used 4wd AX5, not sure what you could get with a rebuild. If it works i would think it would be easier to sell it the way it sits though, seems that alot of people would rather put in several $200 transmissions then pay more for a rebuilt one. If its 4wd it would also help if you drilled it for Wrangler t case clocking, I find there is alot more demand for Wrangler AX5s.

Manual Steering Gearboxes
mnkyboy replied to Zenobian_84's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I didn't really mind my manual box until I went to 33s. On the road it was ok, but offroad sucked.
