  1. I can't wait to drive it and see what the 2.5l can do. Today I finished plating both frame rails up front, having to build each section is taking awhile but its coming along. Next I will plate the main frame at least as far as the crossmember so I can add the new link mounts, I haven't decided how far back I'm going to go but the main thing now is to get the front axle in. Todays progress.
  2. Now that it's running I can focus on the suspension, I dropped out the front axle and removed the frame side control arm mounts then started plating the frame so I will have a good base to build off of.
  3. Well it lives and it sounds mean, if the interia ring is slowing it down you would never know. Makes my 4.0l XJ seem like its revving in slow motion, now I'm itching to drive it. Sure don't act like an old TBI 2.5l anymore.
  4. Thanks. Hillsboro isn't too far away, I'm down in Portland all the time and I go through Hillsboro everytime we do a NAXJA run at TSF.
  5. I drug the MJ into the shop today, I made the last fuel line then buttoned up some other stuff. I found out that a stock starter doesn't fit with my inertia ring so after some modification I got the starter in and the engine cranking,i had hoped to get it to fire today but it turns out that my fuel pump decided that it doesn't want to be a pump anymore. I also started building some frame stiffeners.
  6. Haven't really messed with the A904, but your current engine uses a 60 degree GM bolt pattern and the 4.0l uses the AMC V8 pattern so the engine is not going to bolt up to it. Not sure what it would take to put them together.
  7. I'm typically not big on magic snake oils but I do sometimes use Marvels.
  8. I had thought of using the ZJ stuff when I had the stockish axles and rear disc, my new axles will have 1 ton brakes (Ford dual piston front, Chevy single piston rear) so I'm thinking I'm going to want some tunability. I imagine the ZJ proportioning would probably work ok with the new set up too though.
  9. IMO they are unsafe, they also have unloading issues so they would be sketchy offroad. Pro is they are good for taking poser shots but as stated above MJ leafs themselves flex pretty well. Here is stock leafs soa, how much more flex do you need?
  10. I used the XJ proportioning valve on mine and deleted the stock stuff. It worked ok but my rear disc brakes were overly sensitive, could get real sketchy on gravel roads. My plan is to get an adjustable proportioning valve to fine tune it.
  11. The steering shafts are different but will interchange. The power one has a rubber dampener in it and the manual one doesn't.
  12. My thought is to keep what you have and spend your money elsewhere, once you run out of things to do to your Jeep then look into LEDs.
  13. I've had both and don't mind either. When i swapped my MJ over I was suprised how much simpler the later wiring is, I think I removed a million miles of wiring from my truck.
  14. The pump should even fit the bracket thats already there. The 2.5l uses a remote fluid reservoir on the core support, the 4.0l pump has the reservoir mounted to it. Either will work but the 4.0l pumps reservoir may interfere with the factory air box setup.
  15. Something would have to be figured out for mounting them, mine uses countersunk stainless screws with nuts on the inside. With the way mine is cut in the back I have access where the tail light would have been. I may have to look at one of the stock beds at the shop and see what I could come up with.
  16. I was thinking leaving them like this, then someone could do whatever for tail lights. could maybe even do something that doesnt wrap the back so you could retain stockights like some of the XJ ones.
  17. I have ran stock shocks on two different budget boosted XJs, niether ever had the sway bar disconnected and never saw more wheeling then a gravel road.
  18. These are 3/16" plate.
  19. Not that I know of. I have thought about producing a few sets,I've had a few people Interested in mine.
  20. Shock length should be based on extended and compressed measurements of your suspension, two 2" lifts on the same rig but using different components could need different length shocks due to differences in the way the suspensions cycle.
  21. This is correct, the diameter of the holes where the side gears fit into the carrier are different between 27 and 29 spline axles.
  22. I thought the same with mine since I went red/black on a white truck, I think it looks fine like that so yours will probably look fine being the opposite. Now that I'm taking the rims off I'm trying to decide on a color scheme for the new H2s, I'm kinda thinking to stick with the red/black.
  23. I left mine white for years, a couple years ago I decided to throw some paint on them.
  24. Basically. Unless the truck has had a non CAD axle put in it, then it may be worth selling or could be an axle upgrade for the 86 axle.
  25. Ive got 5.38s which sounds crazy without knowing the rest of my set up.
