That stance, those portal axles... Absolutely awesome. I have always been a fan of those seemingly extreme snow/ice trucks on the huge tires and portals. Very cool to think of an MJ one in the mix. Even cooler for you to share your build with us here. You are quick to answer any questions that come with having a build out of the norm, even providing links to things you got your ideas or inspiration. Keep up the good work, I know you will have a bunch of us state side watching to see what happens next. Congrats on your MJOTM! Enjoy the spotlight! Rob  Click here to view the article

Diesel Fuel Only - Factory Diesel Comanche
Automan2164 replied to Automan2164's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Yeah, sorry. I host all my stuff on facebook, and they changed how the pics were hosted. It's on my list of to-do's, but for the time being, just ask if you need any specific pics or help. Rob -
Someone had to set 'em straight... Rob :fs2:

I have a good home for the '90 with a neighbor that I have converted if you do so decide to part ways with it... I will keep an eye on it for ya. Rob ;)

Automan2164 replied to rocketwheels's topic in The Pub
What!? To each his own, but that thing is waaaay to nice to be painting on and messing with... Go get you a diamond in the rough for the customizing... That thing is cherry! Rob -
Do I see a fuel injection conversion? Might be worth it to just drop in a 3.4 when the time comes... Someone may have gotten rid of the carb for ya. Rob
-
Pete, maybe see if someone has a port-a-power you could get your hands on and use it on the inside across the cabin to push off the other side and help that back out... Worth a shot. Rob

A cheap 2000-01 makes my suspicious bone twitch something awful. I'd have ran once I inspected the coolant while buying. Rob

Just stopped and looked at this today... Been watching this thing since it hit my radar a few years ago. First time I saw it it was incredibly clean, getting the clutch slave replaced at a local shop. Dad is selling it for his son. Talked to dad to get most of the story as he knew. Truck was originally a KY truck that was owned by his other son and his wife since new (?). They took real good care of it, used it for mild wheeling, and the age of the parts shows that there was some money spent at some time. Rear axle had been re-done, older Bilsteins on it, older repaint... It got up here when his other son needed a truck and this was gifted to him. Admittedly, he said that this son has no mechanical abilities, and the truck went down hill. He drove it for 5 years. The midwest grabbed a hold of this thing hard, and it shows. 240K miles. 2.5L runs great. I didn't take it for a ride. 5 speed, 4x4, a/c (Didn't try). Currently has cluster issues because a well-meaning friend tried to change out the head unit and messed up the wiring bad. Price is OBO, He said he's had a lot of interest on it, but no real serious offers... Anyone interested please post, and I will PM you his contact info. Rob

New Shocks, Monroe Sensa Track Load Levelers
Automan2164 replied to airspeed's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If you are putting the SensaTrac load levelers on the back, I would think that putting regular SensaTracs on the front would make sense. I just put all new SensaTracs on the XJ after a lot of research. Seems that people like them for what they are, a cheaper stock replacement that helps the ride a bit without blowing the bank. If I would have had a bit more scratch, I would have gone OME because I plan to lift it at some point, but for now, the Monroe's work fine. Rock auto has a rebate when you buy Monroe shocks also... My purchase of four got me $30 back, which means one shock was free. Oh, and Monroe's are lifetime replacement IIRC. Rob -
There is one near me. Guy got it a year old, paid a company to chop top it. He had it for sale on CL, but I convinced him to keep it once we talked for a bit. Never made it over to check it out. Black Eliminator convert. OP, glad to hear you aren't hurt more seriously. Keep us informed. Rob

87 I6 To 2000 I6 Engine Swap Q&a
Automan2164 replied to MJfanatic87's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You will need to re use all the 2000 stuff... Renix relies on a distributor, 2000+ is coil near plug. Rob -
FM 40/50. Had one on my '91 Elim, '98 ZJ, and just installed one on my '97 XJ. Rob

I may have to try this with a dash. That looks really cool. Rob

Bend over... http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/vehicles/basicfees.html Title Transfer $95 Passenger plate registration $101 +Taxes/fees... IIRC. (I've only experienced bought vehicle registration, not transfer.) He would then adhere to IL emissions though, which is just a plug into the OBD II port to make sure everything is working correctly. Which also depends on City/County testing... In my town, they do not require an emissions test. Rob

That's original... The dash was always agate, and then the rest was the desired color. Here is my 'mist grey' interior, with agate dash. I have some other '97 sales brochures that show the tan interior that you posted with the same thing going on in your pic. Rob

This month we highlight a member making some big strides in freshening up an old truck. Enjoy. BIOTEX's 1990 JEEP COMANCHE SPORTRUCK MODEL AND YEAR: 1990 Comanche ENGINE & PERFORMANCE: 4.0L DRIVETRAIN: NP231 AX-15 D35 w/3.08 COOLING: Converted to an open system ELECTRICAL & IGNITION: Stock STEERING: Stock SUSPENSION: Rubicon Express 4.5" coils with General Spring Military wrapped 3/2 rears INTERIOR: Buckets from 2002 Grand AM GT BRAKES: Stock LIGHTING: Stock WHEELS/TIRES: Stock, but saving up for 31's MISCELLANEOUS: New Urethane Paint, JCR front & rear bumpers. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Amazing work. Your thread is one of the ones I have been following, and I know I'm not the only one by the comments and questions you get on it. You started with a decent truck ushered in with good story of how you picked it up. Driving a 20 something year old truck 1500 miles by yourself was a gamble, but it sounds like it worked out great. The paint and body work came out great, straight, and clean. I'm sure you will keep all of us posted on it's continuing evolution. I know I am staying tuned, keep up the good work. Congrats on your MJOTM! Enjoy the spotlight! Rob  Click here to view the article

Slightly off topic, but the older tow behind job compressors used to use a v-8. One bank of cylinders remained untouched and working, the other bank got a new head and air system for the compressor part. Grimmerschmidt actually makes one that is current, or somewhat current. Rob
