This isn't a Chrysler thing... This has been on tons of stuff since the '70's or '80's. My super and I were reminiscing about it while I was doing the rear brakes on a '13 Ford Police Interceptor with said calipers the other day. Rob

I use Alldata daily. I am a Fleet Tech for a municipal fleet, so we have a grouping of makes and models, as well as using it for our personal lookups. I don't know if the swap you are describing is similar to the disc based - to internet based swap we did, but it sounds similar. I couldn't tell much of a difference because I adapted quick, but my co-worker really hates it. The drop down menu's and folders that go with the internet end make it harder for him to navigate. FWIW, the Ford dealer I used to work at also used Alldata. That also being said, if I use Ford's online manuals since I still have access, I find the descriptions are about word for word at times. The only real benefit of the Ford stuff is the wiring diagrams. All those numbers and connectors and such are all live links on the Ford end, and will open up connector locations, pinouts, and other legs of the diagram without having to hunt for them. Rob

Comanche Of The Month - August, 2013 - The Rc Mj!
Automan2164 replied to neohic's topic in Comanche of the Month (MJOTM)
You bet, but unfortunately, this one is on me. I have been super busy as of late, even missing my Aug mortgage payment by 5 days. My apologies to everyone. Work has me running nonstop, as well as life in general. I discussed it with Pete, and we decided that Ben is going to carry the MJOTM torch forward, as well as be another member of the mod staff. I'll still be around, but with a lighter presence. MJOTM is in great hands with Ben. He's done the calendars for us, as well as being one of the biggest MJ nerds around these parts. Ben took the reigns early, as I was just going to skip this month. I didn't realize I had missed it until the 5th, and I didn't want to short anyone out on account of my mistake. Ben being Ben, insisted we fill the gap, and came up with this as a way to still highlight an MJ of sorts, while not giving anyone the proverbial short end of the stick. Rob -
Yep. If it can't drive off the lot for any reason and I have not yet even officially left the lot, I'd be leaving without it... And finding one somewhere else. Rob

I revive thee from the dead! Felt spritely and such, tired of looking at an empty shell in the spare tire. Ordered the amp. Should be here next Wednesday. Now just have to find the time to put it in. Rob

I'd do it. Sounds like she needs to learn the lesson somehow, and getting embarrassed as hell in an interview would have the best impact. Something tells me that someone that is that clueless wouldn't be bothered, nor understand, the predicament they thrusted themselves into. Rob

Dodge Slant-6 Engine.
Automan2164 replied to onlyinajeep726's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks for the info. I can't attest to what kind of mileage my buddies' truck, but he did have the "Miser package" which included the slant six, 2wd, and a special overdrive stickshift. All I can remember was that instead of the final gear, it had od in a green circle. It was his high school truck, and he did work on it himself. It never ran quite right, so I couldn't tell you what it was capable of. Rob -
Dodge Slant-6 Engine.
Automan2164 replied to onlyinajeep726's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Funny thing... I was just thinking about the slant six in my buddies '83 D150 today... I know an internet search would show me this, but the one thing I never knew was the liter/CI of it... Since the topic is here, anyone know off hand? Rob -
Dave92cherokee, I was really trying to not do that. If I can't get an amp that fits into the spot for it, I was just going to seal that hole to keep the enclosure air tight, and mount the amp over the top of it. Knever3, I don't have the full Infiniti system from factory. I wish I did, but from what I gather, that was a unicorn rare option. You are correct in assuming that the sub is a 4 Ohm variety. It is nothing special though, here is the back view... Very cheap(Like factory sub style speaker), but it was the only thing that would work for the space concerns. That amp you posted looks perfect, and is certainly small enough for me to mount it where ever I would want. Price is on the high side for me though. Another question would be if this amp could or would overpower the little cheapo 8". I am pretty sure that I am abandoning the stock wiring, and will have to put it on the HU's subwoofer output, so I should now be able to isolate the bass level independent of the speakers. As it is now, the general bass eq's for everything also works the sub's bass. Rob

Question For Those Who Have A Comancheclub Decal...
Automan2164 replied to Pete M's topic in The Pub
Mine has held up great, but as hard as I stare at it, the Comic Sans font just won't go away... Anyway we can switch the font to something more contemporary? Rob -
Well... I have been playing around a bit with the audio system in the '97 Cherokee. Can't leave well enough alone. The look and output of the stock radio worked great. Then it started losing the right hand speaker. Then it lost it completely. My '98 Grand hadn't sold yet, so I just did the ol' switcharoo. While I was in there, I took out the 6.5" Infiniti Kappa speakers I had all around and put the XJ ones in the grand. All was well. I found a factory subwoofer for the XJ on the shelf NOS, so I put that in also. It taps off the stock radio with an inline harness and runs to the back. It powers a 50W amp running an 8" sub. Added depth and richness to the sound that was sorely missed. Then I picked up the tweeter grilles for behind the mirrors, and put those in with some middle of the road tweeters w/bass blockers. Then the ZJ radio in the XJ started to go out. It would lose output to both front speakers, and not come back until cutting power and putting it back. Tired of the problems at this point, I decided to just replace the head unit, even though my OCD didn't want to comply. Ended up getting a Kenwood single DIN with all the bells and whistles. This is where the problems started. The new HU overpowered the subwoofer. First, it tore out the dusty old surround on the speaker. At a loss to find a replacement speaker, I just found some new foam surrounds on eBay, and I just replaced that. All was good for a day, until the subwoofer coil bit it. My fun was done for awhile, and I kept up the search for an 8". Nothing seemed to work. The local audio shop ordered some stuff to try, but even the shallow 8's were too deep. Then I did some searching on eBay, and found a super cheapo 8" sub that mirrored the stock one for $25. Worth a shot. When I opened the box, I was elated. All was well for about a week. I was jamming out, then I noticed the bass just wasn't there. Fuse was blown to the amp. I replaced it, and as soon as I keyed up, blam. Fried it. Ruling out the wires getting pinched, I unplugged the amp to check if it would still blow. Nope, but as soon as the amp was plugged back in, blammo. I am assuming that now that the speaker is newer and decent, the amp finally gave up the ghost. I tried talking to the local audio guy, but nothing he had would really work... Most of his stuff is pretty high end, and I just don't see spending $200 on an amp just to run an 8". He called my stock Mopar amp a printed board or boarded amp, has the fiber board with all the components soldered on. I took it apart to check for any obviously damaged components or melting, but found nothing. This is where my audio knowledge ends... I am not much of an audio guy as much as a 'Yeah, that sounds good' guy. I was wondering if any of you guys may have an idea of a replacement amp (stock is listed in the catalog as 50W) to run my cheapo 8" sub. I am just looking for something that will do the trick without going over the top. Preferably, something smaller or compact. (The stock amp sits recessed in that black box). Any help or advice is appreciated in advance. Rob

There was a point in time a few years ago when used tail lights (but still unbroken) were fetching $350 on eBay. Rob

I take it that was it? Rob

I would think if you wanted to go for a single, build a quick kayak skeleton out of plywood with the general shell, skin that with cardboard, and skin that with tape... Edit... What do you know, instructables has something on this: http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-build-a-cardboard-kayak-for-less-than-40/step11/ENJOY-YOUR-ONE-OF-A-KIND-CARDBOARD-KAYAK/

Xj Trans Problems Again
Automan2164 replied to Knucklehead97's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I would imagine the only thing that would overpressurize the pan area would be a blockage in the vent and blockage over the dipstick. -
Hell, a fully duct-taped shell would be the winner. I'm surprised there isn't a limit on materials. A local town has a plywood boat regatta, and they limit you to a certain amount of wood, hardware, and overall materials. Seems with a no limit on duct tape, you could just wrap an entire cardboard structure and be good to go. May cost you a mint, but I'm sure there are the above and beyonders. Rob

Some inside pics would be cool, curious minds are spinning... That rear door looks like it may be a pain to get in and out of gracefully. Rob

One 'Beast' of a truck this month fellas. Enjoy. MiNi BEAST's 1989 COMANCHE MODEL AND YEAR 1989 Jeep Comanche ENGINE & PERFORMANCE: 95 4.0 H.O. all stock with future upgrades consisting of performance cam and head if I don't just go all the way for the stroker. ;) DRIVETRAIN: 79 F250 3/4 ton d44 front and D60 rear with 5.13's Lincoln locked front and rear keeps it going for sure. AW-4/231 transfers the power for now while gather the last few parts for the external slave Ax-15/231 to soon be a welcomed swap to take the place of that weak auto. :) COOLING: Stock closed system radiator from 95 XJ with couple hood vents mantain the cooling of the MJ and aux cooler handles the fluid cool on the AW-4. ELECTRICAL & IGNITION: Stock 95 XJ wiring harness throughout engine bay and dash. Custom spliced harness from dash to rear MJ harness, referring to the DIY tech section on the CC forum. Ignition.... I lost my key so took out key hole and now use a screwdriver to start the MJ. :} STEERING: 1 ton crossover setup over the leafs on a set of custom hy steer arms. Drag link and tie rod are 1.25" dom tapped with 7/8"-18tpi to accept the 85' chevy half ton ends. Steering box brace supports the 2000 Durango gear box. Soon to be tapped for hydro assist. SUSPENSION: Went with simplicity and cheap really, but effective. Running spring over in the rear with extended shackles netting around 7" of lift. Front consist of 5" long shackles hanging under the front bumper attached to a set of 3.5" YJ front lift springs. This kept install of front axle easier and allows me to be able to change set up later on easy enough and keeps me on the road driving as I love driving my MJ everywhere. INTERIOR: Well with the HO swap I just kept going and took everything from the B pillar forward from the 95 XJ and put it right in the MJ. Bucket seats and center console makes it more comfy for the DD duties. Kept the carpet in as well to keep heat out come summer time and keep the heat in come winter time. BRAKES: Running a 2000 WJ master and booster setup with a XJ proportioning valve drilled for 100% power, ran to braided stainless steel lines to front stock 79' Ford 250 3/4 dual piston calipers, then ran to the back with SS lines as well to 84' chevy 1/2 ton front calipers. And with them 4 disc brake setup I have no problem stopping with the bigger tires and I am so impressed with the setup and wouldn't change a thing. LIGHTING: Nothing fancy just some silver stars for headlights, and have a few tractor work lights to light up the underside for night time rock climbing or the occasional night time underside trail repair. And for the rear tails I installed a set of LED clear lens and love them as they are bright enough to work as back up lights as well. WHEELS/TIRES: Ran the 40" Ground Hawgs and loved them. But hard on steering and D44 really so for a change of pace, went with a set of 36" Iroks on some 17" bling. Love the Iroks for everything! DD my rig and these Iroks are great on the road in rain and snow. And man do they hook up great in the rocks. Will be looking for a set of 40ish Irocks in the near future for sure. MISCELLANEOUS: Custom rear bumper, custom front winch mount, gas shock hood lift, custom 15 min paint job, still rust free!! Best MJ story Best trip by far was buying my first MJ in FL for $100 and driving it home to MI. No better way to learn your Jeep then a 1200 mile road trip. Was just me and the open road and it has ultimately sealed the bond of love between me and the Comanche. What owner loves best about CC CC is a great club for great people with at least one common factor, we all love the Jeep Comanche! From hardcore wheelers to guys like me that didn't know a thing about the MJ or cars in general, can relate and learn from one another and all benefit if not in learning new things about wrenching, tech stuff, but if anything meet new wheeling buddies and friends. I must say I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for CC and all the great members that make Cc. As awesome as it is. Proud to wheel a MJ! Click here to view the article

That thing was for sale on eBay years ago... I thought it was from the midwest. I can't forget that paint job. I wanted to save the pics, but completely forgot. A few months later it hit me, but it was already archived out of eBay's history. Nicely done, but when it was on eBay it was MINT. Rob

So you had Robin drive the MJ there and you entered that also, no? Rob

Easy, if it's not an '86, it doesn't have an A904. Rob -
I posted on their wall with a link to our discussion.

AW4. A904 was '86 only IIRC. Rob -
Worth a shot. I checked the adjustment on my XJ shortly after I bought it, but mine was in spec. From what I read, it's commonly overlooked, and can cause many issues, from poor mileage, performance, and driveability issues. Rob
