Bought A 1990 Comanche. Upgrades?
Strokermjcomanche replied to cbreiter's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Zj = grand Cherokee 93-98 Xj = 84 - 01 Cherokee Yj 87-95 wrangler Mj = 86-92 Comanche There a quite a few more but you get the drift of what there used for , like an abbreviation . -
You need to get paint stripper for plastic . It's available at your local parts store. If you use normal stripper it might damage the flare .

Last fall I pulled the 4.0 , 4x4 ,auto driveline out of a 95 xj to go in my 89 mj that was a 2.5 2wd 5spd . I'm currently putting the motor , trans , and t case in and can't remember or see where the trans shift cable goes through the firewall . Anyone have a picture showing where it's located or where to drill a hole ? Thanks in advance .

Problem After Trans Swap
Strokermjcomanche replied to Dando's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
^^ that . Except for the second part , the flexplate has the outer ring making it not possible to flip around . When installing the tc in the trans, rotate the tc until it "clicks" 3 times into the trans . -
Why Are 2Wd D-Shafts Thicker?
Strokermjcomanche replied to Oddmodman's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I had my ds shortened that came out of my 86 2wd Lb when I converted it to a 95 xj driveline . I had a local ds place shorten it and when he did he took all the rubber out and I've put 75k miles on the truck with no incident . Dando if you need a ds let me know . I have spares .- 21 replies

Why Are 2Wd D-Shafts Thicker?
Strokermjcomanche replied to Oddmodman's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I know they put something (like rubber) in the ds to keep it from vibrating . Eventually the rubber would come loose and unbalance the shaft.- 21 replies

Pronounced Shake At 60+Mph: Tires?
Strokermjcomanche replied to Minuit's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The problem could have occured due to you changing to a bigger size tire . The stabilizer could have been strong enough the accommodate the 215s but not the 235s . Do you see any signs of it leaking? And if you have steel rims jack the truck up and spin the tires to make sure the shop didn't bend a rim . -

How is your steering stabilizer ? That can make it seem like the tires are out of balance . What tire size did you have before? -
Rear Brake Proportioning Rod & Bump Stops
Strokermjcomanche replied to 91Pioneer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I replaced a couple broken spring leafs on one of my Mjs. My main leafs were good and it cost me $90 in parts ( 2 leafs , quick clips , locating bolt , and u bolts .) It took me about 1 1/2 hours to change both sides . You don't need any real specialty tools to do it either . -
Mine has the measurements , yours should too
-
Akula just reminded me when he said fsm I have a 90 fsm and can send you pics or fax you the frame spec page(s)
-
When I worked at my local body shop on many occasions the measurements were not always accurate. I can call my old boss and see if he'll give me the measurements for you . Another way that we also did it was to bolt all of the parts on and check to make sure it all was lined up and then weld everything in place . I'll let you know asap .

Rear Brake Proportioning Rod & Bump Stops
Strokermjcomanche replied to 91Pioneer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
As eagle said those are the correct bump stops . There are different lengths of those also . I'm sure someone here can give you the correct length . Yes I think you need some springs IMO -
Rear Brake Proportioning Rod & Bump Stops
Strokermjcomanche replied to 91Pioneer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Skidoo is right . Those are not the correct bumpstops . It's pouring down rain right now or I would send a pic of the correct ones . Instead of them being round like yours they are there supposed to be (for the lack of a better word ) bread loaf looking lol. I would say that it looks like the reason your brake arm is off is because the leaf springs are old and have sagged over the years . -
Late Model Fenders ... Early Model Flares?
Strokermjcomanche replied to Rockfrog's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've put the older style flares on the new fenders . The holes line up but you do have to cut the flares where it meets the bumper extension . Image Not Found Image Not Found -
There's one on the Pittsburgh craigslist $50 . Listed under( Amc model 20 rear end )
