Teenage 1987 Comanche Pioneer Build
Comanche County replied to Tylerzap's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Very ambitious, good work so far! -
My SOA kit was very high quality and bolted right on. I ran it for several years on my D35 now its welded to my D44. I guess I was a little hard on them and I really shouldn't have been.....but there are companies that try to do nothing but rip people off, and in my experience I can't say RR is one of them. They're not a malicious outfit.....There's no doubt the Jeep aftermarket part business is a hard one to succeed in. They've had bad reviews and they've had a lot of good reviews. Neither here nor there, like Mknyboy said, his stuff worked out. Either way, we at CC.com will try our best to help no matter who you buy from.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. My truck isn't anything special. It's just a junkyard scrounged one eyed coon dog of a jeep, but it wheels pretty good. Ill get a few pics of my junky trailer up soon as requested....just got three projects in front of it right now. -
I don't know, I don't know what would happen if you did, I do know its not good....just don't ever do it. It's not worth the chance. Haha.

Do not buy from Rocky Road. Their parts are low grade and their customer service is horrible. I bought an SOA kit from them a few years ago. When I tried to install the kit, the holes did not align at all and I couldn't even use the SOA kit and brackets from them. When I called them to ask about it,,,,some kid told me the holes in the brackets were cut with a computer aligned plasma cutter. Which was a lie. Their SOA brackets were obviously cut freehand with a torch and they wouldn't fit on any axle. I ended up filling up their brackets holes with my welder and drilling new holes. I used their kit as scrap metal to build it myself. If you want them to send you some scrap metal for a couple hundred dollars that you'll have to re-engineer yourself then go for it.....To top it off, my customer experience with them was capped off with some kid telling me that "I shouldn't be lifting the Jeep if I couldn't figure it out". I'd have punched his nose off but he was 800 miles away. Rocky Road is a fly by night rip off, they're the Saturday Night Special of the Jeep world. Do not give them any money. I'm surprised they're still in business. Never want to wish bad things on anyone, but I won't feel bad when they go under.

91 Custom Y J Scrambler Sold On Barrett-Jackson
Comanche County replied to HOrnbrod's topic in The Pub
I think its a cool Jeep, wasn't trying to bash it... I just can't afford it. Hope the new owner has a lot of fun with it because that's what Jeeps are all about. Also, keep in mind, its a lot cheaper than a new Rubi. Not a bad deal from that point of view. -
I listened to this on the radio....but missed the part where he broke down...what happened? I was rootin for the guy.

91 Custom Y J Scrambler Sold On Barrett-Jackson
Comanche County replied to HOrnbrod's topic in The Pub
YJs are great Jeeps, simple to work on, no airbags, easy electrics, comfortable leafs compared to CJs, external slave AX15s for the most part. Unfortunately this one is just a catalog build. Some rapper or investment broker will probably buy it. -

Splines are the same, its the stub shaft lengths that are different.

I've got WJ knuckles and brakes and 5x4.5" hubs on my front D44, but it has D30 inner Cs :( . Here's what I know, someone feel free to add or correct any info if I'm incorrect. The WJ knuckles, brakes and hubs will fit fine on an XJ/MJ high pinion D30. The WJ caliper is dual piston, bigger and and better than the single piston XJ/MJ set up. Get the second Gen Akebeno calipers, WJs had an issue from the factory with rotor warpage and they switched from Teeves to Akebenos some time around 02'-04' IIRC.. If you've already got the wheels, then I'd say run the WJ unit bearings, they're a little beefier. (but then you'll have to run adapters on the rear axle). But if you're going to run a 5x4.5" unit bearing, then you will need a .25" spacer in between the knuckle and the unit bearing and you must run 2000 and up TJ bearings or the caliper to rotor spacing won't match up. This is due to a change in the rotor thickness/offset. See the difference in the offset in the second pic below...its page 9 on my build page and there's a few other links from other sites where guys have done the swap. http://comancheclub.com/topic/22479-deep-in-the-heart-of-comanche-county/page-9 You can fab a spacer or get it here: http://jksmfg.com/i-9052782-fab-steering-knuckle-flange-spacer.html The 2000 and up TJ bearing is on the right, its got longer studs and you can see how the WMS is shorter. Important! ---- The WJ D30 has a different tapered lower ball joint, use an XJ/MJ upper and a WJ lower ball joint. That's what I'm running. If you use a XJ/MJ lower, it will fit, but it will give you a little camber like those Japanese street donks, and you'll wear the unit bearings faster. WJ brakes are a really easy upgrade. I'd just go to the JY and find a wrecked WJ that has a decent set of brakes and take everything, buy a new WJ lower ball joint and slap it on.

Cool trailer!

Yup, could be the best Jeep engine of all time. Just need about 10 years or so to see if it comes close to the 4.0's reliability, so the verdict is out. Though, if used for towing duties, a magnum V8 or diesel engine would be the better choice IMO.

I've got a Fey rear chrome bumper in the attic. I'd let it go for what I paid for it plus shipping. Can't find my pic of it but either way, I'd prefer it go to someone who could use it....just sitting in my attic now. I know I posted a pic of it somewhere here, but I can't find it...oh well...

Question For Those Who Have A Comancheclub Decal...
Comanche County replied to Pete M's topic in The Pub
My long Comanche Club.Com windshield decal lasted 3 plus years stuck to the inside of the windshield. Only took it off to mount our local club decal, it would have lasted longer for sure. The smaller CC.com decal I still have on the center slider window has lasted equally as long but one of the letters wore half off from being rubbed while opening the slider. Still readable though. I had a 3"x5" American flag MJ decal mounted on the outside right rear window that lasted about a year before UV rays crinkled it up and I had to scrap it off. -
