4.0 engine stalling problem
daking replied to Jeepjeff859's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
does it run fine at speed, other then idle? My jeep just started acting up. kinda like what you describe, except mine runs good at anything over idle. I remove a vacuum hose, and it'll idle. I'm thinking its the Idle air solenoid on the TB. You may want to check that. -

hornbrod, I deferentially recommend a flex pipe. It reduces stress on the exhaust piping. I used it in this application, because I've read where people are getting cracked headers. I wondered the same about leaking, being it is steel weave. But it does not leak at all. Is that a speaker magnet on your trans pan? good idea -

The Trailer " Trailer George CV88" is a 2015 custom built half-breed. 34' ft triple axle, ~10ft enclosed / 24ft open deck. The enclosed part has a 15,0000BTU AC (about 3X's larger then needed, so it gets quite cold :) ) Heater. It'll be out fitted as a mobile work-shop with every tool needed to work on any car / truck. Work benches. Seating and table for relaxing, with 2 fold out beds. The tool chest and work benches are on the back wall, for better weight distribution. (un-like most trailer setups, where the tool cabinets are mounted up front). All lighting is 12V LED, powered from 3 Marine batts mounted in a toolbox on the bed. Those batts get charged from 2 solar panels. The lights can be run for over 12hr. The deck is equipped with multiple lighting arrays depending on the job. Loading lights, light up the deck for easy strapping down at night. Can also be used to light up under of trucks. Flood lights, mounted high, on back of enclosed part, light up engine bay. The lighting hits from different angles and allows ANY kind of work at dark hours. There is also a 36" LED Bar that lights up the outside of the door on the enclosed part. There are many strap down points, all 5000#. 4500# winch mounted in toolbox is used to pull any non driving truck up on deck. The winch is wireless and there is a switch ( IN / OUT ) mounted on toolbox. Also on the toolbox is a jumper cable connector, used to give a jump to anything mounted on the bed. A 12V air compressor and 5gal tank provide air. (Not really good for running air tools, not enough flow. I use the air for tires and blowing stuff. Part of the tool collection a complete set of Dewalt cordless tools with 5 batteries and 12V charging. This is why I don't need air tools on the trailer. Also air tools weigh more then cordless tools of equal) We just installed the fold down ramps. Still finalizing how to secure them. I may make them hydraulic... As as securing to the bumpers, those bumpers are one with the jeep :) . If I strap the axles the jeep body bounces. Strapping the bumpers and compressing the suspension tends to ride better. Trailer " George CV88" is currently my largest carrier. I have many other vehicles that ride, including a 600+HP HEMI RAM 4X4, Ram-chargers, and PowerWagon. The "Master Jeep" is the smallest of them all, and leaves a bet of open deck. The Exhaust: Thanks for noticing the hard work put into the Exhaust. The design was to allow for a great flow, out-of-the way, and limit or remove off-road damage. Custom mandrel bent 2.5", modified Pacesetter header (widened the collector to 2.5"), 6" flex pipe to reduce strain on the header flange from exhaust flex, Heat wrap on header under intake, heat shield on pipe near transmission, Hi-Flow 2.5" CAT, Flow-master muffler mounted further back, Bedside exit. The Flow-master muffler is from a Mustang car, and it has the inlet and exit on same side. Kinda like a U shape on the inside of the muffler. The exit pipe goes between the frame and bed, there is a large gap there. Here are some pictures of the pipping. Jeep Comanche Build, 2X4 To 4X4, 5Speed To Auto, Stroker
daking replied to daking's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Hitting some trails. Working out the little issues. Tire rub, and other misc minor issues. Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found -
Think you will make this years turkey run? for those not in our area : (A large group of 4X4's that hit trails in El Paso, usually numbers in the hundreds, for toy donations) I'm going to try and make it in my Comanche. If it's not ready, then I'll probably still go, just run my RAM HD

I'd like to see some builds too. I'm getting ready to build a shop. I'm surprised your shop is so clean, considering the amount of stuff you have. Very well organized.

I figured its for CAD type axle. Replaces the factory vacuum actuator. But it DOES look like an adjustable throttle. Used to raise RPMs for winching, car audio, hydraulics and other items that require higher RPMs to function. http://www.truckntow.com/venier-h-d-adjustable-throttle-locking-control-cables.html?prod_id=2373&utm_source=google_shopping&utm_medium=cse&utm_term=2373&gclid=CIiJjP69zMgCFU1cfgodkPMLPA

Maybe for CAD axle. Cable activated to connect axle shaft in front axle housing? Can you follow the the line? Also looks like adjustable throttle. turn knob to adjust RPM, pull level to engage.

Very Awesome ! I just rebuilt my "Junk yard" box a few months back. I used a box that doubles as a steeping stool. I loaded it with "cheap" inexpensive tools, that way I sweet it if I loose or leave behind a tool. I try to keep it light, by use "multi-tools" where I can. I may get a power driver too, like what you did. The box I use is nice around the driveway, but in recent trips to the yard, it did not work out as nice. The have wheelbarrows at the yard, the tool box does not fit right. I never even thought about a pack.. I'll be looking for one now. I think that is the way to go. Great job!

I'm sure it will do just as good as any ~300 to $400 winch. It should be fine, unless you plan on using it alot.

Tailpipe routing for deep water
daking replied to Paul Bruchal's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks. I routed the exhaust between the frame and bed, there is a large gap there. I used a muffler with the in / out on the same side, common on Mustangs. That way the muffler is hung near original location and back some, for better weight distribution. I got the Tip on EBay, just a normal ~4" tip burnt blue. The plate is from SRT 10 RAM, aftermarket. Here are some routing pictures: Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found -
Tailpipe routing for deep water
daking replied to Paul Bruchal's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I did a side exit, its higher then if the tail pipe is under the bed. The Comanche is not a boat, I usually don't go deeper then 1/2 the tire height. In any off-road truck I have, I avoid going over 1/2 the tire height. Worst case is 3/4, after that I look for a different path, or get a boat. Image Not Found -
Been working on my jeep on and off, mostly done. But life keeps getting in the way.. Anyway, I'm having power issues. My fuel pressure is ~20PSI with vacuum connected, and ~22 no vacuum. Seems low, right? I changed the diaphragm on the rail, same results. There is no ballast in line, direct wired. I'm thinking the fuel pump. Just looking for ideas before I order another pump.

jeep.comanche1992 Welcome to the forum. I hope you find the Comanche your looking for. They are rare and can be unique rides. Sounds like you know what your looking for. I do agree about the added weight on the front, with a HEMI engine. The modern Hemi engine is actually not that heavy, maybe ~200# at most over a 4.0. If I was going to do it, and had the extra money to make it happen, I'd go with an alumn block Hemi. I'd relocate stuff the rear, like the battery. I actually moved the battery on my current MJ to the rear, under bed. I would go with lighter stuff in the front, and add heavy stuff the the rear, like a heavy off-road bumper. I don't think I'd get 50/50, Id be happy with 60/40 or so though. If I was going smaller engine, I like your SRT4 solution. That engine can be very peppy. I personally like the twin turbo V6 used in the Dodge Stealth. I owned a car with the 3.0, basically the same engine, less the boost. That car hauled @$$, I wanted to build it up. But sold it. I don't think a 3.0 will fit between the rails of an MJ though, its a wide engine. That brings up another Hi-Power MJ Issue, Frame. I don't think the MJ frame will handle high torque for long. (Thats why your SRT4 engine may be a better real life solution). The hard launches will eventually crack the folded sheet metal frame. On the Raptor, I have buddies that own Raptors. I'm not a Ford guy, but Ford hit a home run with the Raptor. One of my buddies just drives around, like a car... lame :) However, my other buddy, he just got back from Baja with his Raptor. Anytime you push a truck to its limits, your bound to damage stuff. He told me stories of how Raptors wore breaking front rotors, shocks, and so on. The frame issues, mostly guys who watch class 5 racing on Sunday, then go out and try to jump as far as they can. When properly built, a raptor will handle jumps better, but its still not a plane :). My buddy jumped his Raptor, came down noise heavy, and bulldozed the ground with his bumper. His bumper is now in the bed... They sell frame stiffeners for XJ's that fit MJ with some mod's.

. :MJ 1: . :laughin: I've had that happen in person, more then once. Someone thought I was driving a modified Cherokee

Adding these on some jeeps, would be like using a tube of silicone and a 3 big rocks to stop the Colorado river. With that said, I have done alot to make my MJ quiet. So I may get these, every little bit helps. Last time I had engine noise, I fixed it by turning up the radio. Sounds like that fits here.

JCR Bumper with Factory Hitch?
daking replied to ggcnash's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Here is one I modified. Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found ----------- You can grind and cut out an opening for your hitch, really easy -
I'm not a fan of CJ, JK, BJ, YJ, TJ, CK, or any of those jeep styles. I just don't like em. No way any Wrangler will look better then any jeep truck. (just my opinion, though) something like this, but MJ

I keep my eyes open for a good or decent 91/92 Comanche 4X4 with a 4.0. Extremely hard to find one. My current MJ started out as a 4X2 manual. Converted to 4X4 auto. I've been looking for a 2nd one. I've seen a few already fixed up. Good luck, nice to see a new Comanche person!

Actually that would be cool. like the military one.

I'm not really a Jeep fan. I mostly only like the jeep trucks. I've owned my current MJ, and I bought an XJ for parts.
