I'd wager the later years used the 3500.

if I remember right, the dakota could be had with a 5.2 and manual trans. don't know what the trans was though.

well, as I usually say about weird issues that magically fix themselves; one occurrence is a glitch, twice becomes a trend, 3 times is a problem that needs a-fixin'.

when was the last time the fuel filter was changed?

you can try using junkyard leafs to gain lift. don't quote me, but I think it's 4wd S-10 and Dakota that can be made to work. but there's no guaranty of how much lift you're going to get or exactly which leafs you use to get there or even how many times you need to take the rear suspension apart and put it back together before you're happy with the results. just be sure to retain your main leaf so the tire is in the proper location in the wheel well (assuming your main is less rusty than mine was).

well, yeah. that's what I was trying to get across. our weather sucks because their weather sucks. if I could move anywhere I want, I think I'd go a couple hours northeast of me to the north carolina foothills. I have some friends that live there and they seem to be south enough to never get very cold, north enough to never get too hot, and somehow protected from the winds that bring the moisture from the gulf. it's just... pleasant... almost all the time.

every time that happens to me, it's corrosion between the cables and the terminals. I would just pop them off and clean with some steel wool and good to go again.

It is a lovely neck o' the woods. but I've only ever just driven through. far as I can tell, it's hot, humid and rainy in Louisiana. I know because our rain in georgia comes from there.

one 44. front axle was always a dana 30 for domestic XJs.

what's your price range? AALs (either aftermarket or junkyard) are the cheapest, full new leafsets are the most expensive.

yup, it's a duraliner. my MJ trailer is full of stuff at the moment so I didn't snap a pic unless you want to see something in particular.
