haha, that implies that you wouldn't be dumping money into that one. It's an old Jeep, they all need all the money.

it's to keep the class competitive. I imagine they feel the longer wheelbase gives too much advantage. I see they also limit the amount of wheeltravel for the shortwheelbase MJs.

88-90 Instrument cluster w/ Tach
Pete M replied to chibrian79's topic in Craigslist/Marketplace/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
yes. if you have idiot lights, then you'll need to swap out the oil pressure and temp switches for the appropriate sensors. be very very careful removing the oil pressure switch. they like to snap off at the block. -
the CC software can host you pics for you. just drag them right off your computer into your text box. (or click on the load button if it's on a phone) also, start yourself a build thread so we can see all the details!

How tough is an engine swap from 2.5L to 4.0L?
Pete M replied to bigmistake's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
it's exactly as hard as stripping a truck down to the bare bones steel, then doing the same to an XJ,) and then reassembling it all into 1 awesome rig. for what it's worth, the 2.5 is a fine little engine. it just need the proper gearing to match the tires you want to run. a 4wd swap is much easier than a full on engine change. -
High Crank Case pressure/oil leak
Pete M replied to kill_burst's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
a-yup. it's designed that bad air from the crankcase gets sucked out the little line and fresh air goes in through the big. it was not designed to have air flowing out the big line and so it can easily push oil out with it. -
love it! that's how mine went in, between the tow hook bolts on the KJ. does it alternate the strobe patterns automatically or can you choose one?

I'd love to help, but have never removed a bed. but I have read that the spacers were used to align the bed lines to the cab. chances are good that yours may not match the specific locations of someone else's. you may need to guess and try.

Just My luck- Broken 2.5l oil pressure fitting
Pete M replied to Swampy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
when I invent that time machine I'll go back and remind then that just because it came out when new, doesn't mean that it'll do the same 30 years later. I'll also suggest some key stainless steel items. and coating the floor. and some extra paint in the bedsides. and... -
what all should be in this forum?
Pete M replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
What are peoples' thoughts on including some nut-n-bolt restorations? I mean, if they're going to the extent of painting the body inside and out, that's a pretty intense project. -
did it the hard way, but it's done. I must say I'm really impressed with his work.

Bed Rear Fender Flare Fabrication The 87 Comanche bed original rear fender flare was the old style (early design did not match the lines of the late model front 01 Cherokee flare) The plan to match the front and rear flares uses 2 front 97-01 Cherokee (left and right) fender flares cut in the correct places to make one new late model rear flare (the 01 Cherokee rear bumper extensions and rear fender flare did not fit the Comanche bed) This picture shows the two front 01 flares cut and installed on the bed side (the center seam will be molded into one seamless flare – perfect fit to the bedside)
