  1. I hear it on windy roads making long left turns at speeds 30-50 or so. Don't notice it at higher speeds. I do a monthly tour under the truck looking for loose/missing out-of-the-ordinary stuff like those you mentioned. Jacked up each wheel and rotated looking for a noisy bearing with the stethoscope today (felt smart doing it too ); nothing out of sorts. Took Mama for a slow curvy ride today also and she heard nothing and neither did I. Checked all the wheel hubs for excess heat; all normal. Gonna get the tires rebalanced and rotated next, and if it's still there, finally replace the D44 gears and axle shafts that I've had for the last five years waiting to go in.
  2. I'm going to point out that the center pins on my MT springs were tight. I said it looked like crap because as Sam said, the bolt was cut off with a crusty bolt cutter or something and looked like crap. But I didn't see that as any reason to replace it. And if and when I ever take them off and they start to separate because the center pin has failed somehow, I have plenty of C-clamps. Did anyone else have any center pin problems on your General Spring MJ MT springs?

  5. Yep, they are different sizes. I think early S10 tail lamps are closer in size to the MJ lamps.

  8. I've caught front bearings like that, but not the rear. It really sounds like it's coming from the rear. I'll take Mama for a ride tomorrow and hang her out the window while I make a bunch of left turns. She has great hearing.
  9. I hate "WFT is causing this noise" threads, but am going to post one anyhow since I've never experienced this before. When cruising about 30-40 on winding roads, whenever turning left and going around a bend in the road, I hear a growling noise that sounds like it's coming from the right rear axle, although it could be up front. Definitely on the right side though. The noise disappears immediately when straightening the wheel, and no noise at all when making right turns. I'm thinking axle bearing or front wheel breaing, but how can I pinpoint it to be sure? On a c-clip axle I'd just yank it out, but no can do easily with the D44. Think a change of diff oil would help?

  11. Right now up front Wahoo I'm 33" from the floor, through the center of the wheel hub to the bottom of the flare. The only parts that are giving me lift up front are the OME 930 springs (NLA, replaced by OME 2930), and fresh Mopar spring pads. I'm about 2-1/2" over stock. The rear has GS MT springs with Teraflex 1974100 shackles. Measuring the same way as the front come to 34", so yeah, very little rake.

  13. Regulation late model XJ Mopar fans all have 10-blades. I use two of them for my cooling system.
  14. Mine will handle up to 1/4" rivets. Using these with washers on both sides of the aluminum rivets it was a good secure bonding. I also used fender washers on the same push pins you used to provide more surface area strength for the liners.
  15. Sam's just being Sam. The center pin does leave something to be desired on these springs aesthetically, but it didn't worry me because once they are installed it's useless anyhow. It's just to hold the leafs together until you torque them down with the u-bolts. I installed these MT springs on my MJ over ten years ago, and initially they gave me nearly 3" of lift over what it was with the original sagged springs that I had. In about a year they settled down about an inch. Didn't paint them either, and they still look new. You can install an aftermarket u-bolt clamp aft of the main axle u-bolts like I did if you're worried the leafs will move, but it's really not necessary. It's just an ornament.
  16. Where are you planning on using these? Up front for the fender liner? I used aluminum pop rivets with washers for that. The rest of the fasteners on the liners are plastic push-pins.
  17. The best brand is Mopar. By far. If you don't want to buy new, grab a couple from late model XJs at your favorite yard. Used Mopar fans are better than any of the offshore junk.

  19. Yep. The parts manuals indicate they were only offered on XJs and MJs from 84-87. Most of them went to 86 and 87 MJs. Might be the reason why nice ones are so hard to find.

  22. For some extra leak protection, slide a neoprene washer as used on metal roof installs between the visor and body roof when installing.
  23. To me your visor looks like it dipping down in front too much. I installed mine years ago and it was a new visor out of the box. The Lund instructions said to line up the visor roof and windshield contour lines to the truck lines, which I tried to do. My visor sits almost level, not slanting down. Right or wrong I don't know - just followed the directions. Maybe it just the angle of your pic. Oh - and paint it body color.
  24. The brackets don't contact the fender. They sit on the inside lip of the flare.
