  1. Tons of them down here, I've been looking around to see if there's any good deals on an automatic for the better half, but most of what I'm finding are sticks. There's a very nice 95 YJ, 4.0HO 5 speed 4x4 on CL 15 minutes from me for $1800. I think it's only got lik 98k on it. I'm shocked it hasn't sold yet.
  2. The 4.0 starter and the 2.5 starter mount differently. The 4.0 mounts to the transmission, with hex bolts. The 2.5 mounts up into the motor, with two screwy torx bolts, one of which is hard to get the socket onto, and you pretty much do need a torx socket. There's also a shim on the 2.5 starter.
  3. I've had the same problem in both my BA 10/5s, in my Dad's AX-15, occasionally my AX-5. My AX-15 does it too, all the time, in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, but that's because the PO raced it a lot and must've jammed it in gear a lot. Double clutching always seemed to help.
  4. T-case drop in our trucks is a bad idea. You may slightly benefit your rear DS, but at the cost of your front. Angling the back of your T-case down just angles the front up.
  5. Just for show right now. I wanna get the rear axle swapped, XJ tank in the bed, push bar, tow hooks, and lift on it soon. The 4wd trans is gonna be a little bit yet because of the genius plan of the P.O. to weld the crossmember to the framerails. Reason for this is I have everything for those already, and very little cash right now. It will get tied in eventually.
  6. It's out of a Toyota somethin-or-another. It's Purple. But hey, It was free! Looked so good just sitting in the back of the 2.5(It's for the 4.0) I already wanna get my hands on another one.
  7. You should be able to swap the power steering stuff from any 2.5 XJ/MJ with a serp belt. If you can find an AX-5, I would recommend you just swap that in. It's a little bit of work to get that 5th in there just right, and unless you have some experience working on transmissons, something could go wrong. I should have pointed out that I have done the swap, but it was only because I couldn't locate a cheap enough 4wd AX-5 and I did have issues with it, tranny was only in my truck for a year before I pulled it out in favor of a stock 93 AX-5. - That, and I blew up the 207. The only D44 that will be a direct bolt in is one out of an MJ. XJ axles are the same, except for the spring perch location. MJ is SUA, XJ is SOA, and the distance between the perches is different. You'll have to cut and weld new perches on if you get an XJ axle. MJ D44s are extremely rare, so it will be incredibly difficult to 1:Find one, and 2:Find one with the gear ratio you want. Don't pass up on a good deal for an XJ axle if you find one. Another option, since you're just doing it as a daily driver, is a Chryco 8.25 out of an XJ. Same amount of fab work to get it in your truck, and should be strong enough for you.
  8. I know him personally and I know he's a 5 speed guy like myself.
  9. 5 speed or automatic? Both my 88 and 89 XJs did something similar, I just got into the habit of giving it a little gas when I had the clutch pushed in to keep the motor just above 1000 RPM. From what I've seen reading posts, I possibly could've fixed the problem by popping the IAC out of the TB and giving it a good clean.
  10. Not entirely. It's handy when doing 70+ on fairly level ground. I do have a set of 4.10 axles waiting to go in though.
  11. How's your kit setup for the front?
  12. Dude, it's an automatic...
  13. Or you can drop the front shaft(no fluid to worry about) and lock the T-case in neutral. You HAVE to drop the front shaft though, with the T-case in neutral there's no connection between the shafts and the motor, but the shafts are still locked together.
  14. The parts in your truck will work just fine. The AX-4 and AX-5 are completely identical other than the gears for 5th are missing in the AX-4. It's possible to even put the 5th gear into an AX-4 and make it an AX-5.(I've done it) The only difference will be if it's an internal or external slave cylinder. 84-86, 94+(I believe) should be external, and 87-93 should be internal. If you find a donor trans that's external, it's a good upgrade, you'll just have to modify the line a little bit. Otherwise, if you just want to keep the internal, you'll have to swap the bearing retainers. My 2.5 is a 91, trans is a 93, and bellhousing/bearing retainer/external slave clyinder setup are from an 86.
  15. What's this "inspection"? :dunno:
  16. why don't you use the external slave cylinder. because your internal front cover is a different size. it won't bolt on Why not? I have an 86 External Retainer bolted onto a 93 AX-5. IIRC the only thing ever changed in the AX-5 was the size of the input bearing.
  17. I torched a 207 behind a 2.5, I doubt they put it behind the 4.0. I think it'd be better to just find a 231.
  18. Pull it out and stick in an AX-15 :brows:
  19. Hm, I guess I really should've gotten that 92 I saw 2 years ago for $900. Wasn't in too bad of shape, just didn't need another 2wd 2.5/AX-4. Poor thing probably went to the crushers :(
  20. The "ignition switch" is actually near to the bottom, which is activated by the key cylinder.
  21. Yes, the D30 will have the larger U-joints. What year is the 8.25? If it's a 29 spline one, I'd say get it. Any 84-96 XJ front fender flares will be identical to the MJ. The only flares that work on the bed are MJ ones, and they're side specific. I can't remember if the longbed and shortbed ones are the same or not.
  22. I believe any of them up to 96 will work, but I'm not 100% on that. Granted things like tilt/wiper delay/cruise may be different than the one you have, and key lock will be different 91+. I think they may have changed the size at some point after that.
  23. Or you might not, either way, here it is. Made it for a friend who wants to lift her YJ more and I figured I'd slap it up here in case any of you ever need it.
