  1. Mostly true... more specifically, you need the press to get the gears back on. A gear puller will get them off. As for the cluster shaft, it is mostly a one piece, the 5th gear stuff will be separate, as the collar/synchro setup is on the layshaft. I'm basing this off of the AX-5, AX-15 should be practically identical, can't vouch for the BA 10/5 though. kmack, you are going to need basic sockets, snap ring pliars, possibly some torx stuff, and a very light touch when putting it back together. If you're referring to rebuilding a BA 10/5, your money is better spent throwing it out and upgrading to the AX-15.
  2. It's not about racing. Dogging the motor = worse mileage. That and you're going to throw your speedometer off. Also gearing starting off in a higher ratio is harder on the axle, and if you have a D35 you could easily break it.
  3. 5 speed or automatic? If you're running with 3.07 gears that thing's gonna dog pretty good. I believe you can stuff 31s with a 2 inch lift.

    ATV lift

Essh.. 4wd one with tcase too?
  5. Save it if you ever plan on selling it. Otherwise, if you're like me and are gonna take it to the grave, do whatever you want to it. But then there's the arguement I had when I got talked to about "resale value" when I knocked out a wall in my house. Why should I have to live in a house someone else likes?
  6. Pulling the trans off a 2.5 is ridiculously easy. You can get at all 6 bolts that hold it on, and they're all the same size. Should be 18mm. Are you SURE you got the correct bearing? The proper bearing clips onto the throwout arm. When I put the 86 trans in my truck and ordered the kit for an 86 2.5, it came with the wrong bearing. I had to order the 2.8 kit to get the right bearing for some reason. If that's not the case, another possibility is the slave cylinder was not bled properly. Those slave cylinders have to be bled when they're not attached to the bellhousing, and clamped so they stay completely compressed. If that wasn't done, you could have air in the cylinder and that would cause it to not disengage the clutch. Another thing. There should be a little plastic tip at the end of the pushrod for the slave cylinder. If that's not there, it may not push it far enough to disengage since it's a new clutch. edit: The one you need looks like this Also, another tip, which is what I did when I put mine in. Take the bellhousing off the transmission, and bolt the bellhousing/clutch assembly into the truck without the tranny. Put the alignment tool in the clutch, and then you can test to see if everything's working properly, without having the transmission in there.
  7. The AX-4 is an identical transmission to the AX-5, except it's missing the 5th gear. Housing's are all the same.
  8. Get a quart of Lucas Power Steering Fix and make sure you dump that in too. I'd get power steering fluid. I've heard many times that they're interchangable, but the power steering fluid I've bought was always thicker than the DEX III.
  9. yea while we were driving along the beach there was a trailer that sold flags and all sorts of stuff and my friend bought that for $20, all we got were a bunch of dirty looks and a few laughs, no boobs $20 for that? G-Bus.
  10.
  11. It will only hold pressure for a few seconds. The pressure will bleed off through the return line. Regulator only manages one line.
  12. Same motor and trans, yes they're identical.
  13. That's if he's got an external slave cylinder. IIRC the ONLY year the external was stock on an MJ was 86. Jeep didn't go back to the external setup until mid-93.
  14. Have you done anything with the MAP sensor? If that's gone bad it could be dumping way too much fuel.
  15. I was fairly confused when I saw the title lol Surely you mean an anti-wrap bar? I just saw something on xtreme 4x4 where they did that. It looked basically like a radius arm, but with using heim joints on every point.
  16. Yup.. what year is this xj? I haven't seen it mentioned..
  17. :agree: ...and one whose interior cab has no water leaks... They made those?
  18. I ran with upsidedown grills on both my XJs. Just flipped right over until they changed it in 91. I think it looked better that way. 8)
  19.
  20. Say what? Do folks really want these? Had no idea mine was a 'gem' I figure any Laredo is a decent find. 92 is pretty rare. Not only was it the last production year, but it was also the year they made the least amount of them. I had an opportunity to get a 92 2.5/2wd/AX-4(or5) awhile ago but didn't get it because I didn't need another 2wd 4cyl. Now I wished I'd gotten it. I would think any stock 4.0 HO MJ would be sought after pretty well, since the HO was only in 2 years. And I got me one of them.
  21. It will definitly get worse if you keep driving around with it like it is. Unless it's a possibility you're going to need to click it into 4wd while you're driving, leave it out until you can get it fixed. I would still carry it, the bolts/straps, and an 8mm wrench in the truck though. :wrench:
  22. Yup, with the tranny out you shouldn't be able to move the clutch disc at all, since pushing in the clutch disengages the connection. Tip: Put the year and basic specs of your truck (longbed or shortbed, motor, trans, 4wd or 2wd) in your signature, so we can use it for reference when you ask a question.
