  1. Not quite as familiar anymore is it? It's just sitting on the wood until I can make some metal pedestals. (I have no immediate ability to cut tubing or weld.)
  2. I know that the Mythbusters can't be exact about everything, but from their testing they found you get better mileage with it up. It creates a "vortex" of circulating air in the bed, so there's much less wind drag. Even if I got better with it down, I'd still leave it up because I'm too paranoid that it'll bounce around and somehow pop off.
  3. The MJ was actually a hacked-up XJ IIRC from the Comanches In Movies thread. I haven't seen the movie.
  4. yep :agree: My Spore truck has the same ones, and they're the main cause of rust on the bed. If they weren't there I'd probably only have the fender rust. I suggest doing away with them.
  5. Pulled the bedliner out of the 4.0 and noticed this. I'm guessing its the mounting location of a stock rollbar?
  6. :agree: :agree: :agree:
  7. Yeah that's definitly not a Jeep. Some sort of Full sized truck. Only Jeep I know of that has stock SOA leaf suspension is the XJ, and that's obviously not an XJ, since XJ tanks are behind the rear axle.
  8. Pull the trans. It's a bit of work but after all this time you've spent on it you'd probably be done by now.
  9. 97-01 will work too with some minor modification.
  10. That's really low mileage. If it's just a big problem with the bed I'd say either fix it up or do a nice flatbed with it. :needpics:
  11. You don't need a 4x4 MJ for that. But you will need some extra cash to buy the lift and tires. :agree: Yup, all the lift components are the same for a 2wd axle.
  12. The 231 on my BA 10/5 wouldn't bolt up to my 86 AX-4 because while the spline count was the same, the 231 had a long input and the 207 had a short input.
  13. :agree: I usually only take my hand off if I'm in 5th. With not-the-greatest brakes, I need to be able to downshift quickly sometimes.
  14. You don't have the email addy he used to sign up with?

    MPG?

23 before it started acting up. 2.5 MPFI AX-5 3.55 on 205/75R15s Haven't been able to check the 4.0 yet since it doesn't have a non-leaking tank in it. I'd be it doesn't do too well, since I have a tendency to hammer on it.
  16. I don't think I've ever heard the term "better transmission" used to describe the BA 10/5. The AX-4/5 are very sturdy transmissions for light duty. I'd rather have one of those than the BA 10/5. There really isn't a need to find an upgrade trans to replace an AX-4/5.(I'm assuming you have a 4 cylinder and an NP 207). It shouldn't be too difficult to find an NP231 for your trans.
  17. The carb cleaner would be your best bet, but if it's already started to corrode I don't think there's any way to reverse it. You may need to located a new box. I agree the TPS could be to blame. I'd also dump some injector cleaner through it.
  18. From what I'm seeing the Chrystler 8.75 uses a third member. Chryco 7.25?
  19. That's... uhm... :huh???: It's gotta be a 44 unless someone threw an axle out of something else in there. Does it have a tag on it?

    What the...

So I'm perusing google image to find a picture of a gray 2 door 86 XJ to throw into my sig when I find this. From some of the other pics it's obvious there's no engine, trans, or even suspension on this thing... but it made me cry inside.
  21. Pop the gauge cluster out and pull the light bulb for it. I've done that with every cluster I've had to get rid of that shift up light. :fs1:
  22. Looks like he's running SUA yet though..
  23. Cut the springs? Are you lowering? I would really recommend against cutting the springs. You compromise the springrate, and your ride quality probably won't be that good. If you can get your hands on some ZJ rear coils, they'll go right in and lower the truck about 1.5-2 inches.
  24. I had a pukey with the same problem. Just leave your hand on the shifter holding it forward and it's not even noticable.
