High powered electric magnet? Oh... I suppose you might want it to still work, eh? I've never done it on a mac, but with windows, starting with 2000, you could always boot from the OS disc and everything you needed would be on there. Option to reformat before installation was always there. I'd imagine you could do the same thing on a mac.

I could have... but mine are burried under 8 inches of ice and/or snow. I got up, jumped in my truck, then drove 500 miles with a dying fuel pump. And now that I'm finally away, and it's warmed up considerably(40.4 F right now) I'm going to go change said fuel pump.

Turns Off and Shakes some times....
Geonovast replied to Rayko~Tux83's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Is it a 5 speed or an auto? I had an 88 XJ and an 89 XJ that did the same thing, and I would just throw the clutch in an give it a little gas to keep it going. It's a fairly common problem with the Renix systems. What do you mean by shaking? The motor, or do you mean the truck while driving? -

cherokee 4:10 rear diff in my truck
Geonovast replied to shawn's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The distance between the perches on cherokees and comanches are different, yes. The pinion angle would also be off even if they were the same. How much of a lift are you running? *I believe* an SOA with stock springs and shackles will get you 5.5 inches. I would also consider getting a different rear axle anyway...if you go that high, you'll want big tires, which chances are, a turdy-five won't do too well with. -

2.0? There was never a 2.0 litre motor available in a manche. Smallest was a 2.1L, and that's a turbo diesel. As far as your axle ratio, yes it should be 4.10, which typically came with a 2.5 and 5 speed. If you're just doing a 4wd conversion and no big lifts, you're going to want to find yourself a Dana 30, which are freakishly easy to come by. Any front end parts you'll be able to steal off of an XJ. Everything up front is the same between the XJ and MJ.

2wd to 4x4 whats involved?
Geonovast replied to lil_loco's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Your best bet would be to find an XJ that's 4wd, same engine/tranny combo and same axle gearing at a JY or browse craigslist. Or live an hour from Jeepco. My first conversion ran about $500, and most of that was the cost of rebuilding the Dana 30(New bearings, balljoints, U-joints, UCA/AS bushings). You could probably find an XJ with everything you need. sans the rear shaft, for about that. There are multiple threads on here with people that have done conversions. Do a little searching and I think you'll find everything you need. If not, don't hesitate to ask. -
Stock cherokee shackles or lift ones? Stock ones will actually lower the back of your MJ about an inch.

It took till Nov 24th for it to actually stay on the ground for more than 5 seconds.. but it's finally here! I may actually get to use that little lever next to the shifter now.

You're going to lose handling when you hack off a coil too. Beaterjeep put ZJ rears in the front of his 2.5 and he said it handled just fine. If you already have the ZJ rears, throw them in, and take it for a drive to see how it handles.(Remember no matter how you lower it, you WILL have to adjust your toe) Lowering it will point the tires out.

Seems like a decent upgrade... but not worth 154 clams if you ask me.

How long does it run? A few seconds, a few minutes? Can you move it at all? If it only runs for a few seconds right after start up, it may be your ballast resistor. It's the small porcelin piece on the inside of the driver's fender with 2 wires going to it. Also, if you could please let us know what year and motor your truck has that would help us help you. Btw, Welcome to the club!

The timing is not adjustable. It is completely controlled by the computer. Also, I'm 95% sure the HO and Renix distributors are not interchangable.

AX5 Trans Mystery J-tool where???
Geonovast replied to Redramman's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I bought a Craftsman 2-arm gear puller, which should be able to get everything off on your AX-5 just fine. $50 compared to $400(J-22888) -
That would be the best Christmas present, ever. :brows:

Chances are your bad alignment screwed the tires up pretty good. Get it aligned, you can try balancing them, but I wouldn't be surprised if you need good ones. Doing the alignment yourself is pretty easy... and free! http://www.4x4xplor.com/alignment.html

Nope, bearings stay on the shafts. You just gotta wiggle it off. There's nothing else holding it on.

Maybe he wants to go 6x6?
