Sad to see the longbed go. You gonna sell your rear bumper? MADE for a longbed, its what i planned to copy. lol. Gonna miss this sexy long bed owners inspiration.

I may end up selling the bumper. I'm still not certain what I am going to do for the rear bumper, but it does look like I am probably going to end up building another one.

For those that subscribe to 4 Wheel Parts' Off Road Adventures magazine, check out the article starting on page 14. You may recognize the MJ in a couple of those pics.

Looks awesome! Love that blue! I had a 96 ram cummins diesel that color, on 39.5 iroks, and a buddy had an xj that color at same time, on 33" SX's got a pic of them together somewhere in the archives. Both inline 6's and 5 speeds :) both were our rides in high school, that we finally let go of and both miss a lot! That color isn't very common on any Chrysler truck/SUV around here. Mine was brilliant blue not sure if his xj was the same color code but extremely identical. Also liked the intense blue pearl, similar just a shade lighter w/pearl. Beautiful!

Time to chop the bed. Ended up taking out 17".

Still have a lot of work to do to get everything to match up, but we did toss the rear on just to get an idea of what we would end up with.

Looks like its coming along pretty good. Not quite as extreme as I chopped mine, I only took 16" off mine but being a short box its bobbed a lot further.

same color? or going with red? :)

No offense, but I can't stand red on any vehicle....besides Ferraris. Plus, I already have a red MJ. I'm planning on staying with blue on this one. I think a flat blue in about the same shade would look pretty nice, and keep the lower quarters black.

I think this is going to work out pretty well. This will put the shackle hanger at the bottom of the bumper and the shackle will end up being the rearmost part of the vehicle.

Progress from the past couple of weekends.

Test fitting.

New mounts for the rear bed bolts.

Cleaning up the areas to be welded.

Replacing the rear cross member with 6" C channel.

Starting to tack the pieces back together.

I don't think anybody is going to mistake me for someone in auto body repair, but I think it will work for my needs.

Did the swap back to the stock style radiator help your cooling issues?

Yes, so far it has worked much better. I just hate that it has the crimped on plastic sides. I'll run it until it starts to leak then hopefully I'll be able to find a full metal single row radiator.

I know you did this forever ago, but do you by chance remember where you got your shifter boots for you transfer cases?
