Pete subtly dropping hints for us bench guys to find a 90-92 MJ with head rests...Id love to do the swap but none are close to me.

makes me wish I didnt just sew seat covers for my headrestless. I have been thinking about some way to weld in headrests from an xj or something

You need the bench seat with the headrests just so we can get an idea on how they did it. All I can say is the parts diagram sucks for that.

it'll be... challenging to put headrest directly onto a non-headrest bench.  the foam appears to have been injected right onto the frame and so doesn't really come off.  not impossible mind you, but ya gotta make sure the foam doesn't ignite.

could have been anything.  but I'd bet on someone's head.  I've known people who have popped that window with their cranium.

oh look, I found another, this time with both windows smashed

oof

I've come across a few obviously rear-ended MJs in junkyards with broken rear windows myself, never thought to snap a pic of them though. It's easy to forget that the MJ is an artifact of the time when safety was just starting to become a serious concern for automakers.

Although to be fair, back when the MJ was designed, there were a lot fewer 3-ton "lifestyle vehicles" with grilles at chest level running around.

I got my back foam off with a box cutter and a little work to fix the crack in the frame

'tis true.  but the smallest cars going 45 mph when the driver is looking at their phone and you're at a stoplight is going to put your head through that glass.  :(

yep saw a chick rear end a car today she was behind us when we where turning left honked because we had a really small window to go and then she tailgates us after we turn then later we change lanes to turn right and she didnt see that there was a car stopped at a red couldve easily been us.  and all I thought was whiplash would hurt if your head either smacked the glass really hard or went right through and the broken glass would fall on your neck

Been there and done that. Got rear ended in my 1953 F100 by a small car. Was at a stop. My head broke the rear glass. Had headaches for around a year and had a hard time dealing with numbers,( addresses, phone numbers, math) I fixed the truck and put headrests in. When I found a bench seat with headrests for my Comanche, I snagged that up quick. I would suggest just put a small pillow or foam on top of the seat until you get headrests. Head injuries are not fun. The wife says I am not still right in my head, but that's another issue.🤣

and seatbelts.

Truth, I've seen some bad ones, had one show up we're you could see the indents of the trailer hitch this person hit. the seat belt was buckled behind them and went off as well as the airbag, pretty sure there was hair in the windshield. I don't know the extent of the injuries but I'm betting a few broken ribs and a fractured skull

On this subject my daily got hit on Friday.

I was doing 10-15 and the guy who hit me was doing 50-55. If I didn't have headrests specifically designed to reduce head injuries in this kind of crash I would at the very least have the worst whiplash.

Headrests are very necessary for your safety.

Pete, I was going to guess that that mj was one you came across, both doors were locked and jammed from the wreck, you already had your stock of rear sliders but there were some things inside you wanted...

these were all from the auction site we've been stealing VINs from the last couple days for the registry.  :L:

Everyone made it out unscathed. The guy who hit me his girl was 9 months pregnant in the passenger seat and even she was only a little bruised up. The cars took the brunt of it.

You would be surprised how durable humans are. I was at a rear end traffic collision, early Pathfinder into the back of a School Bus where the driver of the Pathy left a quarter size hunk of his scalp on the windshield, and refused to go to the hospital. I understand that he had headaches and neck pain for several months, from a mutual acquaintance.

Thank goodness for the Lug Nut Rule, not a single kid was injured.
