eaglescout526
What the hell?! Sincerely, A loyal fan. Seriously though. All I really want to do is install AC and I run into stupid crap like this. How did I end up with a screw facing straight up to the windshield? All I can say is that I may need a new heater vent.
Minuit
I hate that stupid, worthless, dirty, rotten, good for nothing friggin' defrost panel SO MUCH. Not only are the screws a pain in the @$$, but it's a real party to remove non-destructively once you eventually get the damn screws out.

Dzimm
Would a socket style Philips bit with a swivel and extension work? May need a third hand to keep pressure where it's needed.
Dzimm
Otherwise try some needle nose vise grips since it's sticking out a bit.

I'll have to try the needle nose pliers if the swivel fails. Guess its a good thing my dad did interior for minitrucks back in the day

eaglescout526
I like it! I have a few different options now. Thanks guys!
DirtyComanche
Since every helicopter ever built features many inaccessible screws, I have a collection of options. The most basic is a wobble bit, which allows some 20 degrees of misalignment. It can then be put in a bit holder and turned with a ratchet if there's no space for the screwdriver. If that doesn't work the braided wire style flexible extension is an option. If there's no space for that, sometimes an extremely low profile thumb driver can get the job done. Failing that the shallowest bit in a 80, 90, or 100 degree bit ratchet is a possibility. If nothing else I twist them out with Cobra pliers. Or break $#!&. Sometimes it just comes down to breaking $#!&.
coheed
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Skewdriver-Angled-Screwdriver-Spec-Tools-/131816366843 I've had one of these skewdrivers for probably a decade now and it's never let me down. Makes stuff like this so simple.
500 MJ
I’ve taken those screws out and not re- installed them to totally negate the issue. Have not noticed a difference with them out.

TexanEliminator
I do something similar to the post above but with a 1/4” ratchet wrench and Phillips bit.
krustyballer16
I do something similar to the post above but with a 1/4” ratchet wrench and Phillips bit. That's what I used too until I broke my ratchet wrench. So I got a purpose built ratchet lol. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
eaglescout526
Well we got it out. Used a nubby screw driver and a pair of vice clamps and a phillips bit and we got the damn thing out.
yxmj
For future reference....a normal hex tip for a screw gun or multi tip screwdriver is 1/4" drive.....so if you have just a tip.....a 1/4" wrench and 1" of electrical tape.....done deal
dasbulliwagen
Use a bigger phillips screwdriver, and punch a hole through the glass right above the screw, then just seal it up with clear silicone! (NO PLEASE don't!)

But I’ll have to use the method above your post in the future
