I picked up a slightly-crusty MJ tailgate a few weeks ago from CC member thejim42 down in Birmingham and transformed it into my new beer drinking bench on the back deck.   Very comfy........

Very nice! What did the wood come from?

I got the wood from an old storage shed that had collapsed in a nearby field a few years back. I was driving by when the guys were getting ready to torch it and I grabbed some siding. I think the wood is red gum and it's HARD! The wood for the bench was left over from some rocking chairs I made awhile back. Glad I saved the wood.

Man, that's what passes for a crusty tailgate down there? Probably still even has the bottom seam intact! That is a really nice bench, though.

I might be able to get a steel handle chromed have a friend that works in a local shop where they plated rivets.

That would be great! The black one that's on it now is in good shape and is looking to get traded for one that shines.    :brows:

Is that your playset in the background?

I love the bench!!

I have a crusty tailgate that I want to use as a bench with a door on each side.....

Wow that turned out nice!  Did you spray the tailgate with anything?  Looks almost like it's got a satin clear on it?

Thanks. Yes, exactly. Satin polyurethane.

It's amazing how heavy these benches are when finished, si?

It is when the grand daughter is here.

I can relate. I've made my granddaughters  a swing and a swinging monkey bar from stuff around the yard.

Don't you find that people who post pics of their grandchildren and dogs are annoying?
