This ever happen to anyone else?  It sure surprised me.  Around 3 or 4 this afternoon the door bell rings.  I answered it and a guy with a square body Cummins Ram is on the front porch asking about Georgia.  Apparently he has a relative in the neighborhood and has been watching Georgia for a while.  He asks me if I've ever considered selling her.  My response was no but you can always make me an offer.  I opened Georgia up, started her up, and told him what I'd invested in parts (i.e. wouldn't even consider an offer below $xxxx).  He ended up not making a compelling offer and then asked me what ever happened to the white one (Maura).  Told him I sold her about 2 yrs ago.

Not sure if I should be flattered or a bit scared.  I guess my MJ attracts more attention than I thought...

My 88 hadn't been on my parents' property 2 weeks before a local rang the bell and asked to buy it.  oh yeah, I risked my life hauling her 750 miles through winter weather just so I could sell her to a couple rednecks in a beat up ford.  right.

Don't be scared,I work at the Loretta Lynns Ranch in middle Tennessee,We have a lot of big events there with lots of people attending,I'm approached many times and ask if I would sell mine,I tell them all that I'm not interested. On the other hand I also stop at any I see and ask them If it's forsale. Not necessarly for me but since I bought mine all my buddys wants one. That's how my brother got his 91 Comanche.I saw it parked at a park and ride place.I put a note on the windsheild,About a month later the guy called me.Take it as a compliment.

Hey I knocked on the door of the previous owner of my current 91 Comanche. Since he's a good friend of my dad, he called me first when it was time to sell. He had people knock on his door a couple times a year asking about buying it. It probably helped that he's on the corner of a busy street and across from a high school.

Was out working on my mj in the front yard guy asks if it for sale. Told him everything for sale as long as you got the cash. He offered, get ready for this, $350 for the truck. I told him very politely that he should add at least a 2 in front of that number to even get close to what I had in mind. Told me no way they that they sell for that much.

I've found it does'nt hurt  to try. I don't know how many deals I;ve missed because I didn't knock and ask. Hate to think of the times I've seen a car/truck sitting in somebodies driveway that didn't look like it was being driven that I would like to have had but never knocked only to see it later laying on it's side in some junkyard. Doesn't hurt to ask.

  • 1 month later...

I saw a Comanche sitting by house and wife said it got a for sale sign. Went back and saw $450 OBO After talking to guy and asking the least he would take I came backnext day with $325 and drove it home.

I'm having body work done and the guy doing it called and asked if I wanted to sell it and if so how much. Tell him $1,500 and luckily they say to much. He's putting in new floors, inner and outter rockers and cab corners. Last summer got bed sides fixed. Has a 99 front end on now, and put bucket seats in.

I would like to sell a couple of mine. Wife has made it very plain that when i kick off she's not messing with them. Just gonna call the crusher and have them clean the yard. Threats of nightly ghost visits don't scare her.

I'd like to road trip out there one day and help relieve some of your spare parts burden.

Had a few spontaneous offers on my 2wd Eliminator before I thought about selling it.

A couple people just stopped by while I was out cutting the lawn, or doing yard work.

When I decided to sell it to buy 4WD (I'm not a wrench, so I thought it would be easier/cheaper to find a good 4WD than to convert) I sold it for what I was offered.  Made money over what I paid and spent on it (including shipping it to NH from IN), but it was literally "rust free".  Checked paint, but absolutely rust free.

I love my current MJ, but it needs the bed rot fixed.  I'm not a body guy either, so I figure it will set me back a few bucks to have that resolved.

I've had offers ... even paused for a moment, but I think my nephew will be driving it when I'm done and gone.

still trying to find a way out there. :(  the last plan fell apart, but the new plan is that I buy a late model XJ (for my uncles project ) from CO and use that as an excuse to fly out and visit. :D

The prices mentioned in this thread are interesting. I thought I would throw in my 2 cents worth. Last month, I was at the Mecum's car auction in Kissimmee, Fl and two Comanches were auctioned off.

One was a 1988 base model, 2.5L, 4 spd, SWB. It was very nice, very original, beautiful re-paint with original color. Had 171,000 miles. It sold for $6750.00, including a $500.00 buyer's premium. The other was a 1987 base model, 2.5L, 4 spd, SWB. This one, however, had been painted over every inch of the body and bed with an orange Rhinoliner paint. I thought it was hideous, but recognize that others may have found it attractive. It had a so-so interior and I don't recall the mileage. It sold for $3000.00 including the $500 buyer's premium. (Immediately after the auction, the buyer had the truck on Ebay for a buy-it-now price of $9995.00!!)

If you go to the Mecum's website, you may be able to view pictures of these 'Manches. Having watched the market for the last few years, in my opinion the selling price of Comanches is definitely on an upward trend.

Was working on my comanche for a few hours this weekend. had 3 people stop by to ask me about it. One of the guys was a big jeepaholic.

The MJ was sitting next to my Grand Cherokee SRT8. Not a single word was said about the SRT, they all only had eyes for that MJ.

I was impressed. These things are head turners.

I started backing mine in the driveway to keep people from seeing the JEEP on the tailgate. All they see when they drive by is a late model XJ front nose. I've had a few guys try to buy it in the last month since I moved. They ask how much and I say $5000. Same old song and dance. That's too much for it yada, yada, yada. I always say they same thing to them. Find and convert a 89, 2WD, Eliminator to a 97, 4X4, D44, 4.5" lifted truck for less. None of them have and very few ever will.

She was called a Bronco today though? :fool:  I still don't understand that one!
