  1. It'll feel better. Not necessarily in a straight line, but you should notice a reduction in body roll on turns. The standard 24mm is perfectly adequate to make the truck not be scary, but the 28mm is just better.
  2. They probably hacked at the floor to make it easier to get at the bolts on top of the bellhousing, if I had to guess. If they were dumb enough to do that, they probably screwed up plenty of other things along the way.
  3. Uh, wow. That takes previous owner hackery to a new level. I'd have to agree with Eagle here. That part of the floor is complex enough that welding in a donor section from an XJ is probably the way to go.
  4. This is honestly one of the very few times I've seen an ECU, HO or Renix, be the actual cause of a problem on this forum. Wonder what went wrong with it?
  5. That's weird. I know it took me a while to notice that there was one on mine because at first it looked like it was just part of the connector. I'll take a pic of it next time I have the connector apart.
  6. There is a gasket. It's just not in the parts manual for some reason.
  7. Was wondering where you went. Life has a way of getting in the way, and sometimes we just feel like doing other things. Good to see you still around. I like the bike.
  8. Shame. This was working fine until recently. Guess they must have changed the site, because this thing was around for years without any problems.
  9. Didn't they put the AMC 304 in the CJ5 from the factory? I know I've seen a couple of 360s swapped in place of them. If I wanted to swap engines and keep it in the family, that's probably what I'd look at first. Dunno what kind of transmission options that would leave you with though. I have seen a CJ with a built 360 and 4 speed and it looked like an absolute blast. I think they sound amazing too. With that being said, I think I'd almost rather have a 2.5 with an AX-5 than a 4.2 with the three speed T14 anyway.
  10. The 91 has leaked off and on since I can remember. When I redid the interior I ran a bead of silicone around the edge of the connector, but in really heavy rain it occasionally seeps a little bit of water under the fusebox. I can't stand caulking things up like that, so next time I feel like it I think I'll try cutting a new gasket out of some gasket material. I'm sure the one in the 89 leaks too but the water all runs out the hole in the floor so I don't think I'd ever notice.
  11. Guess your son is lucky the thief wasn't both a dumbass and aggressive. Still happy for you to have the truck back. Big time boo to the cops though.
  12. Yeah... Maybe he's talking about the two illumination wires? In which case, I can't think of how.
  13. I've tried a few different ways to seal that stupid connector with mixed results at best. If someone comes up with something that isn't "figure out what obscure long-obsolete connector AMC decided to buy a bunch of and source a new gasket for it" I want to hear about it. One thing I haven't tried is to get a piece of gasket paper and try to make a copy of the gasket. If I recall correctly the gasket is actually a fairly complex design. Might be tough to cut out a good copy from paper. For what it's worth, that junction in the firewall was eventually changed to a design which was more watertight (I think they eliminated the bulkhead connector and just replaced it with a big grommet). Around '94 I believe.
  14. Damn, always wanted to make a nice chair out of some kind of car seat. Although if I had seats that nice sitting around the temptation to put them in my MJ would be irresistible
  15. That looks so much better already.
  16. I've always had a soft spot for YJs. Can't wait to see what you've done with this one.
  17. Varies based on year and equipment. You should be able to see what they should be if you shine a light into the cluster.
  18. Quick question: do those Bosch pump kits come with the o-ring for where the sender goes into the tank? I need to fix my gas gauge and while I'm at it I think the Airtex pump in there now needs to take a hike. Would be nice to have everything I need in one purchase.
  19. My Vendor thread on CC The original guide to the radios - where it all began Website
  20. Dongle... hehehe The empty space on the clock was originally for something called the System Sentry. It was available in the very early XJs. It's just empty space on the rest of them. The 1991 clock has some spaces for warning lights that were never used, which is why Don could fit a temp display in there.
  21. The heat from the engine makes the sparks go faster!
  22. Those seats were exclusive to 1988 Laredo models. That's the only year the plaid fabric and grey interior were both available. The seats themselves were used up to 1995. The headrests? Dunno. They show up every now and then usually on Laredos.
  23. Nothing looks awful, but you'll want to look it over with a very close eye when you go to look at it. You'll be looking for any bubbles under paint, any obvious signs of previous rust repairs, and anything that generally looks "off". The main spots you want to give a careful look are the rear fenders right above the tire, the rocker panels, the floors, and the cab corners. Ditto to DirtyComanche - the flat black paint may be hiding something, or the body may be perfect underneath and they just wanted to paint it flat black. It's hard to tell from those pics, but the floor pans look a little chewy to me. Look at the floors inboard and outboard of the uniframe rail and keep in mind that however it looks on the bottom, it looks 5 times worse on the other side. These trucks rust from the inside out. The black interior is a big plus (it was not available in 1990, and if the truck really is a '90 it was swapped in), and those seats are the good ones (those seats are from a 1988, so they were swapped in). You may or may not care, but the aftermarket headunit and 6-1/2" speakers fastened to the outside of the door panels (there's a correct way to install 6-1/2" speakers in the doors of a Comanche, but that's not it) may mean that you'll have a mess to clean up if you want to play around with the sound system. Also - this goes for all manual trucks - take a look at the fusebox under the dash. It's very common to see them damaged because of a leaky clutch master cylinder. Look for any signs of corrosion on the fuse box terminals.
  24. First car CD player came to market in '84. CDs came on the market in '82. The compact cassette, which most people think of as a '70s and '80s thing, came out in the early 60s!
  25. If we're gonna post pics, I guess I better post some of mine.
