All Of A Sudden 88 4.0 Won't Start.
Minuit replied to metrictonner's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
A crank sensor spontaneously failed on me one time with the truck parked overnight. That would be the first place I would check for a no-spark. How long has it been since the engine has been up to operating temperature? -
Any Recomendation On A Good Brand Of Fuel Pump
Minuit replied to 48MJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've got an Airtex in mine that I've had since April. I've used it for about 3500 miles and haven't had any trouble but you can definitely hear it at idle. For the first couple of weeks it was really, really loud but it mellowed out after some use. -
Ugly Mj Just Goes Where I Point It
Minuit replied to Ron Norman's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
I love it. Do you happen to know what the color of the cab half is? (speaking of color, the silver cab and black bed goes together quite well.) -
If the fan only works at full speed, it's the resistor. Otherwise, check the connection to the blower motor and the motor itself.

Worth it!

I may be remembering the years wrong, but I don't think they will. I believe the years that clusters match between are: 84-86, 87-90, 91-95, 96, 97-01. I'm pretty sure the clusters changed between 86 and 89.

Thats A Fine Lookin Cherokee Ya Got There. . .
Minuit replied to ftpiercecracker1's topic in The Pub
Am I bad for liking the second one? Might have just been a typo. I certainly wouldn't expect an LS2 for that price. -
I doubt it's normal. I imagine that 'skip' would cause the coughing you're seeing. Maybe a dying/improperly wired pump but make sure to get some other opinions first. I've been up since 5 this morning and my fundamental car knowledge may be slipping a bit

I guess I should have been more clear. A stepside doesn't look right on an MJ or most other trucks. Those Honchos are great, though.
-
Not sure if this would help you in that situation but mine would die and start right back up. Ended up being a bad ignition coil, but if it happens under consistent circumstances I would guess that an intermittently failing sensor. Maybe TPS?

Are you sure the pump is in full working order? That would be the first thing I would check.

 4.0 V6. If you're going to own a vehicle, is there any reason not to at the very least know what kind of engine is in it? Some people. Unless of course it has a Ford 4.0 stuck in it, but I strongly doubt it. A stepside bed just doesn't look right on a Jeep, or any truck really.

What number is that magnet? Collector Series 58

I didn't buy it but I'm very lucky to have it. My grandparents bought it new (they were originally going to look at Fords, glad they stopped at the Jeep dealership) and proceeded to put about 90k cross country miles on it by 1996, when my granddad died. My grandmother then drove it until she fell ill in 2002, when it was passed on to my dad. The fuel pump died in early '03 and it sat until I started it for the first time on April 29, 2012. I've done a lot of work to it since, but it's been a very faithful vehicle and it's given me next to no trouble as my DD. I won't quit until it looks like it did the day it rolled off the line.

Agreed. I even have one of their magnets with Brent's truck on it.

Jeep Comanche Engine Swap To Diesel? Renault 2.1L
Minuit replied to Mjobession's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
So that makes 3 confirmed factory diesel MJs in existence, if I'm correct? One is Automan's, one was jeepcomj's and then yours. The Renault is a crappy motor but it's still a piece of history. -
The AW4 has an ATF pan, but I don't think it has any mounting for a gauge nor have I ever heard of an aftermarket pan with one. I've heard that aftermarket trans temp gauges read from the stock transmission cooler line. No clue on the A/F ratio. I think hornbrod has an A/F gauge on his truck though so he'll probably be able to tell yo. The water temp sender on the head is for the stock gauge/idiot light and the one on the thermostat housing is for the ECU. I don't see why you couldn't use the stock location for your gauge, but I don't know first hand. Here's a CherokeeTalk thread about trans coolers: http://www.cherokeetalk.com/forum/f8/transmission-coolers-14285/ I've seen several CC members using the B&M cooler and it seems to work for them. Hope I helped at least a little bit.

I'm probably the least superstitious person on this forum, but I think nature conspires against me any time I try to do something outside. If I lived in the Sahara, it would still probably rain within 7 days of me washing a vehicle.

A year and a half ago, my MJ was an algae covered garden ornament. 3000 miles later and I haven't been let down once so fixing it up is the least I can do. The uniqueness factor doesn't hurt, either. If it was an extended cab I would never have any reason to drive another vehicle.

A few months ago I saw an MJ every two or three days but I haven't seen one not in my driveway since June. I wonder if they've all left for NC?
-
I'm horribly underqualified to properly answer this, but I don't think the year would matter much, as I don't think you'll keep much of the original engine-related wiring with that sort of swap. That said, the firewall improvements made in 87 might make fitting a big engine in there easier or may not depending on the dimensions of the engine. The biggest question is obviously in the cooling department, but I don't know if the year would matter, as I don't think your typical V8 swap will work with the original radiator hardware anyway. Feel free to prove me wrong on any of the above. The newer models will tend to be in better shape and just be better vehicles in general, so there's also that to consider.
